I have (relatively) big plans for calendar in 3.2. We can't really say too much yet, but I promise - you will see improvements to calendar in 3.2 (not just a few small bug fixes or tweaks).

bfarber got a reaction from rainz in Minify and Safe Skins
If there's an updated version of minify that works with IPB and fixes other issues elsewhere, I'm happy upgrading the version of minify we ship with.

Personally, I've never seen the problem with bumping a really old thread. Old does not necessarily mean irrelevant.

bfarber got a reaction from Painted Horse in vBulletin Owners: Handy FAQs
Ok, sitting back and thinking about this, if we contract ANYONE to do a security audit - why would we require them to buy a license first? I can't imagine how that would make sense. If I was a security auditor and faced with that situation, surely I'd simply raise my price to compensate for the cost of the IPB license (or tell the company they're nuts and ignore them).
Cryptovirus has been looking for and reporting issues he finds on his own without compensation. The fixes, once rolled into IPB, benefit all of our customers (especially since he seems to be focusing on security-related things). Personally, I'm happy for him to look through the code and report any problems he finds so we can continue to deliver a secure, stable software for all of our customers. -

File Name: Rebuild all caches
File Submitter: bfarber
File Submitted: 08 Feb 2007
File Category: IPB 2.2.x / 2.3.x Tools
If your caches have somehow corrupted, not allowing IPB to load, you can upload this file to your root forum directory, visit it in your browser, and it will rebuild all your caches.
It only rebuilds default IPB caches - not caches for components, modules, etc.
Should work on 2.1 and 2.2 both.

How about adding the green icon for active users, newest member, and birthdays? :)

Select your skin, then click on "manage user agent mapping" and select explorer.
There is a little problem: with explorer this feature doesn't work! Why?

I like that idea. ACP setting though, because then you can encourage it if you want to.
Show "Automatically subscribe to own topics" during registration?
No (don't automatically subscribe)
No (automatically subscribe)
Yes (unchecked)
Yes (checked)
Something like that, so the admin can decide default behavior and if it should be an option during registration. -

Ah, I use FF usually. I'd submit that as a bug report in that case. -

You're right and I apologize. I was just aggravated at the time and shouldn't have said that.
I believe what was causing my particular problem was XCache. When I was knee deep in skinning work for IP.Board 3.0, I had to disable XCache as changes I was making to the skin would not be reflected immediately. And there doesn't seem to be any way to disable XCache on a per-directory basis or even on a domain basis (it's affects all the domains you have on a server). Since I haven't done any skinning work in a while, I forgot about this issue.
I know you and everyone at Invision are working quite hard and I very much appreciate it. I'm looking forward to watching IP.Chat stabilize and evolve over time.

No, iframes are not inherently dangerous. They're only dangerous if not used properly.
1) Requires a dangerous site to be embedded via iframe, which wouldn't happen (we don't put any arbitrary site into the iframe)
2) Hacker puts an iframe to a third part site on THEIR site - has nothing to do with our usage of iframes
3) We don't use any such CSS ;)
4) We don't use any such javascript ;)
5) We don't use any such css
6) We don't use any such redirection
In all of those examples, they show how iframes can be misused. That doesn't mean they're bad to use, it simply means a hacker can use iframes for nefarious purposes. They can do the same with javascript, which we use extensively throughout IPB.

There is definitely something funky going on--I just went to make sure I had "ipchat.css" in my "AtariAge" skin, and when I click on the template bit I get an "ACP Session Has Expired" message. Clicking OK just dismisses the dialog box and nothing happens. If I click on the template bit again I get the same error.
Something definitely got screwed up during the upgrade. I wish Invision wouldn't be so quick to assume their users aren't properly following directions.

First, ten users is not very many, especially for scheduled chats that take place at a certain date and time. I routinely have hundreds of users on my forum, and there are many busy forums that will certainly want more than 10 users to be able to use the chat at any given time. Second, because Invision is hosting the chat server backend, this will greatly cut down on your server load, allowing you to host much larger chats than you might ordinarily be able to on a shared server environment. Once the chat page has loaded, the Invision servers will be managing the chat traffic, not your server. And third, you might be surprised at the number of large forums out there running on dedicated servers.

I think we shall wait on beta 5, maybe 8 or RC1 to get it work. :-)
