Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted October 25, 20168 yr Hi, One feature that would improve a lot the moderation process would be the option to "quick edit" the topic title from inside the topic itself, i.e. by clicking and holding the title with the mouse. Thanks.
October 25, 20168 yr I agree… but I don't know if this is the place to post about it. I hope so. Yes, from that screen you can click right through to the forum where the topic is located, but sometimes it's on page 4 or 7 or something and you can't find it readily.
October 27, 20168 yr @Gabriel Torres I asked support how to edit a title from within the post, and it was pointed out to me that editing the first post allows you to edit the title. Not ideal but reasonable. I'd prefer to see the "Edit title" option in the "Moderation Actions" dropdown menu, rather than another hidden click + hold option (which our moderators didn't discover until we found out about it accidentally and let them know). The other inconvenient side effect of this hold + click option (other than poor discoverability) is that when used in the forum section, right-clicking to copy a thread URL causes the title field to be inadvertently made editable.
October 27, 20168 yr Community Expert I'd prefer to see the "Edit title" option in the "Moderation Actions" dropdown menu Made a quick plugin: Quick Title Edit.xml I probably will submit it to marketplace after someone else's tests.
October 27, 20168 yr @Adriano Faria Interesting idea - we're on the hosted version of IPBoard, so as far as I can tell, this isn't possible for us anyway.
October 27, 20168 yr Community Expert we're on the hosted version of IPBoard, so as far as I can tell, this isn't possible for us anyway. Yes it is. It doesn't require any upload of files. Plugins are installed on your ACP.
October 28, 20168 yr Author @Adriano Faria Excellent, many thanks! This helps a lot. I've installed it and it is working like a charm. This should be a out-of-the-box option as it was in the 3.4.x series.
November 4, 20168 yr Author @Adriano Faria The only "problem" with this plugin is that it bypasses the Rules we have to send out a PM to the post author whenever a moderator edits the post. So, using "the long" method the post author is notified via PM that his post was edit, whereas using your "quick method" the user doesn't get any notification. Is there any way to improve that? Many thanks.
November 4, 20168 yr Community Expert No. What I did and you're call "quick method" is add a textbox, update title and seo title, add to mod log, handle search index, etc., exactly what the edit() method does ("the long" way, I guess). This is made to work alone. It has nothing to do with any other resource. Honestly, I don't even think about in this or any other 3rd party resource when I start something. If everytime I want to do something like this (that I really don't need to), I need to worry if someone is using a "rule" or something, then I have 2 options: 1 - I do and it's up to the user decide if will use it; 2 - do not do it. Meanwhile I stand with #1. it was just 10 min to rest my head from issues in other ressources. Don't get me wrong; not being rude. Edited November 4, 20168 yr by Adriano Faria
November 30, 20168 yr Author Excellent, @Charles many thanks for taking my suggestion into consideration!
January 30, 20178 yr Community Expert This will be standard in 4.1.18. Thought this would be a suite-wide feature, like rename titles in category/forum view. It only works in Forums app. Nevermind. Just retested it and seems to work in other apps. Edited January 30, 20178 yr by Adriano Faria
January 31, 20178 yr Author @Charles Thanks for adding this option. I've just upgraded to 4.1.18 and it is working fine. However, I have one question. I was only able to use the "quick edit" function on forums (list of topics), not inside the topic itself. Is this the expected behavior? Thank you in advance.
January 31, 20178 yr Community Expert However, I have one question. I was only able to use the "quick edit" function on forums (list of topics), not inside the topic itself. Is this the expected behavior? You probably edited the topic template. Any change will only take effect if you revert it.
January 31, 20178 yr Author Thanks @Adriano Faria. I've just checked and that is the case indeed. Problem fixed. Thank you for your help!
February 2, 20178 yr Community Expert Why not make this standard for Blog and Gallery album/category titles as well? It is. All IPS apps has this feature from 4.1.18 onwards.
February 2, 20178 yr It is. All IPS apps has this feature from 4.1.18 onwards. Well shut my mouth! I thought it was only for forums posts. I see it's for Gallery items but not Category or Album names, but still it's a great feature to have!
August 4, 20177 yr Community Expert A brilliant feature, but seems to have disappeared with 4.2? Working fine on 4.2.1:
August 4, 20177 yr Working fine on 4.2.1: Not on ours Edit: rebooted browser. Works now Edited August 4, 20177 yr by waccoe.com
September 15, 20177 yr Hi! This is exactly what I was looking for... but the plugin seems to have disappeared from the marketplace.@Adriano Faria, did you remove it? do you plan to make it available again in the future? Many thanks for your answer!
