Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
SJ77 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Hi I have downloads and commerce. Can someone please explain how to setup IPS to allow my users to upload their own digital files to my site and sell them to other members? Thank you!

Jim M Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 ACP -> Community -> Download -> Settings -> Paid Files tab, enable Paid Files and set the rest to your liking. ACP -> Members -> Groups -> edit member group -> Downloads tab, under Submission Permissions enable Can charge for files?
Rheddy Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 @superj707, what some of the others forgot to mention is that in order to allow your members to sell their merchandise through IP.Downloads or to sell items through a marketplace through the IPS platform, you also need IP.Nexus. IP.Nexus is what turns allows you or your community to 'sell' downloadable content or to sell items throguh your online store through the IPS platform.

Mark H Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 One point of clarification.... The OP said "to allow my users to upload their own digital files to my site and sell them to other members" (bold emphasis mine). All sales are done via the site owner's account and Paypal account. Members are not able to sell directly to other members. The site owner account does the actual sale, and then would payout the sale funds to the member that submitted the file (less commission and fees).
Rheddy Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 @Mark H, I wasn't aware of that. Looks like I'll be taking a hard look at Nexus for my community. Definitely something to look into adding to my community. I'm still looking at expanding to IP.Blogs, IP.Downloads and now, it looks like, IP.Nexus.

Do they build an Accrual?
Mark H Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 If you are the site owner, funds are paid into the Paypal account you define in the admin panel. You'd then make payouts to the vendors. Our Marketplace is setup in a similar way, though we have customized it somewhat, for our specific needs. Any of the community Contributors can add a bit more generic detail, as I believe they know that side of the process better (I'm not a Contributor), but payouts can be requested, yes.
SJ77 Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 I am guessing most people here are not lawyers or CPAs but.. as a guess.. do you think I need to have people fill out a W9 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf before I allow them to sell stuff on my site? Or because they use paypal, I become a 3rd party?

You have to provide a 1099-MISC to anyone earning over $600 per calendar year, and at this point you will have wanted them to fill out a W-9 for your own records. Copies of these 1099's get sent to the IRS along with a 1096-Summary form. Anyone making less than $600 does not receive a 1099-MISC, and isn't included on the 1096-Summary form, but is still counted as an expense on your personal tax return. While you don't necessarily have to have it to get things started, I would personally make it my policy that this document must be filled out and returned PRIOR to receiving their first commission check from you. (Paypal really only functions as another business bank account of yours)
