cmiller303 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Since I use the "new content" / content I have not read yet all the time, I sometimes want to read a topic or post without responding straight away, but do so at a later moment. However, it will be off the radar, since it is now marked "read" and will not show up in the "new content" page. Being able to mark a topic and/or post unread would be a huge improvement! thanks for your consideration, Ronald
Wolfie Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Being able to mark a topic and/or post unread would be a huge improvement! You might be able to find a hook to give you this functionality. If not, try asking for it to be made. Something like this I think would be 'bloat' if it's part of the core product.
cmiller303 Posted December 15, 2012 Author Posted December 15, 2012 Hi, not sure about bloat, most, if not all forum software I've used sofar has this option. thanks anyway, but perhaps the dev's can give this another thought, Ronald
Peter.B Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I'm keen to have a hook or some core functionality to do this as well. Where's the best place to ask someone about making a hook for it? Willing to stump up some cash for this.

Misi Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Being able to mark a topic and/or post unread would be a huge improvement!Yes.
Adriano Faria Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 EDIT: I'll try, when I have a decent internet connection back.
cmiller303 Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 Given the support from other members on this, where do we go to add this as a feature request for core IPB? thanks, Ronald
Dmacleo Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 you did, this is the spot where you would do so :)
Adriano Faria Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I don't think it's possible to make this... Couldn't find an "UNREAD" method or something... This is possible with PMs 'cause it is a column on messages table.
Marcher Technologies Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I have been... quietly watching this topic. Matt, Farber... whomever, I could really use $this->registry->classItemMarking->markUnread in an app I am working on completely unrelated to the OP... can we have such a method added?
cmiller303 Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Hi again, just a gentle bump, any word on this? thanks in advance, Ronald
Adriano Faria Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Hi again, just a gentle bump, any word on this? Nothing has changed since last december. :)
stormyweather Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I would really like this too. How else can you re-visit posts that your members have made that you read now but need to answer later?
Misi Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Nothing has changed since last december. There are no replies from the developers, which is much better then an empty promise, never kept. (You can find a few of them around) We can take it as: NO.

cmiller303 Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 I'll just give this another gentle and patient bump, thanks for understanding
Adriano Faria Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I'll just give this another gentle and patient bump, thanks for understanding Nothing has changed. While IPS doesn't add this in its framework, you can't do it. I would expect this to IP.Board 4.0, not for now.
wcollier Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I'm going to bump this thread because I am wondering if this will be a feature in the new upgrade? Crossing fingers.
Nigel Moore Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Did anything ever happen with this? I'm surprised it's not an in-built option like it is with some other forum software. It would be a great addition to my workflow (and many others no doubt).
opentype Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Just to play the devil’s advocate: I’m not seeing this as a useful feature. First of all: It’s asking for a misuse of a feature. If you have read the topic, then setting it “unread” literally makes no sense. If anything, you are looking for a bookmarking feature. And that is already a clue how to solve it. If I know I need to come back to a topic later, I just drag it to my bookmark bar in the browser. Having it hanging around as unread and having to mark it unread (possibly even multiple times) is a poor solution to bookmark content. Also, regarding the original case: On 12/14/2012 at 1:48 PM, cmiller303 said: Since I use the "new content" / content I have not read yet all the time, I sometimes want to read a topic or post without responding straight away, but do so at a later moment. No one is forcing us to use the “unread activity feed” and actually, I never do for exactly the reason described here. I use “latest activity feeds”, which clearly shows unread content as bold, but I still have the other latest content still available there if I need to revisit it.
