Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Cheapy Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Ive seen custom mods on other sites, but would love to see a native version on IPB. A wikipost is usually the first or second post in a thread, which like Wikipedia, can be editited by multiple users.
Cyrem Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Change the permissions to allow groups to edit other's posts. Then get the post history mod in the marketplace. EDIT: Sorry didn't read the 'first or second post'. Yeah a custom mod would need to be made to allow only the second post to be edited. I doubt this is something IPS would make native, best request a custom mod for it.
Cheapy Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 Its more complicated than just that. You need a system (like Wikipedia) for saving post editing history and restoring previous revisions.
connorhawke Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Its more complicated than just that. You need a system (like Wikipedia) for saving post editing history and restoring previous revisions. That's possible with this marketplace mod: http://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/4876-pav32-post-history/ Although it's not Wikipedia, it does save post editing history and allows previous revisions to be restored. As for allowing editing on only the first and/or second post by selected usergroups, that would probably need to be a custom mod request.
Jυra Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 The whole wiki thing is only useful if there's a large body of people to make it used and correct. Niche.
Cheapy Posted September 29, 2012 Author Posted September 29, 2012 The whole wiki thing is only useful if there's a large body of people to make it used and correct. Niche. You could say the same thing about IPS or really anything. Thanks for your very helpful comment.
ZackL Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 This idea would be awesome tbh. Something like stackoverflow's pseudo-wiki editing of posts.
Wolf Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 This is a very neat idea for a collaberative writing/roleplay site - and for many other types of forums. I support it.
Jυra Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Tons of things can be great or just as useful with a small amount of users.
Alfa1 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Vaultwiki is a very popular addon that provides wiki functionality. Currently its only available for vbulletin, but they are working on a version for IPS. Stackexchange uses wikipost functionality. I see wiki functions are being requested repeatedly. Its certainly not niche functionality.
Cheapy Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 I see IpbWiki exists and it's open source. It just needs to be properly integrated into the first post of a forum thread. Maybe this could be a stock feature in the future? http://www.ipbwiki.com/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/ipbwiki/
Makoto Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I tried IPBWiki once. It was really buggy and outdated from what I remember, and I just didn't feel safe using it. I just use a stock MediaWiki installation and have no issues. It will require members apply for a separate account on the Wiki though.
vaultwiki Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 For any users still following this thread, I wanted to mention that VaultWiki is finally moving forward with their IPB integration. Please see this thread here: http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/404817-wiki-for-ips-what-would-you-look-for/We would love to hear your thoughts and ideas for the best integration. Please check out the thread to get involved!
Joel R Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I was just about to mention VaultWikiYou can also, however, use a default IP.Content installation with databases to accomplish what you want. I think databases in IP.Content is one of the most underrated features in the entire suite.

Maybe this could be a stock feature in the future?Actually, it is a stock feature already. You just need to get IP.Content. The databases there have Wiki editing and if you let every database entry create a forum post, you get exactly what you need.
