Chimel
Spell Check works fine in Firefox. http://screencast.com/t/3LWxS3jGi Not on Windows XP. Check-spelling is enabled when I right-click on this edit form, for instance, but misspelled words are not highlighted. I don't have an option to upgrade my Asus Eee PC to Windows 7 like I use on my desktop.
Rikki
Firefox sometimes seems to get confused when spell checking 'rich' content. Right click in the editor and check that "Check Spelling" is enabled, and then go down to the Languages item and check at least one language is checked. You need to do it in the green area - for some reason Firefox also doesn't recognize the rest of the editor (in red) unless there's text there. Well it is enabled as I posted in a comment that's not yet approved, but you're right, English was listed as the only language, so I didn't see a problem, but it also needs to be selected too. Now it highlights the typos as I type as usual. I hope the forum will remember this setting at next post. Thanks for the tip! Would be great to have a way to force enable a language when it is the only one listed, at least on the first post.
Dmacleo
ffchrome extension for FF will also break it.

This is actually an issue with FF, when upgrading, it will often clear the language selection, which then disables the spell check until you select the language again. Glad you have it working though.
Tom Butler
I'm using IE10 with the Speckie add on. (http://www.speckie.com/). It works well, but occasionally gets confused until the next restart. Spell check is an important capability of my computer and I find it a little odd that the capability has been removed from a board I am paying to have and maintain. Dmacleo
wasn't spell check actually built into CKE and tinymce and not actually the board in versions prior to 3.2? when (if?) cke removed it then it would be by default removed from the board. works fine in FF 23.1 here
Rikki
Spell check is an important capability of my computer and I find it a little odd that the capability has been removed from a board I am paying to have and maintain. It's been removed because all modern browsers have built-in spell-checking now :)
Tom Butler
I understand by "all modern browsers have built-in spell-checking now" that you are saying IE10 is not a modern browser. IS Invision selling Firefox?
sunrisecc
Since IE10 comes with spellcheck, I removed SpeckIE.
Tom Butler
Interesting, English was already noted for IE10 spell check on my computer but it never worked. Based on older comments on this thread, I just I tried selecting English from the list and now it is working. Thanks for the comment Sunrisecc. Chimel
This is actually an issue with FF, when upgrading, it will often clear the language selection, which then disables the spell check until you select the language again. Glad you have it working though. I didn't upgrade and my language selection has not been cleared, it only happened on IP.Board forums. It also happened to me some time ago on another forum, not on their standard editor, but on the HTML editor, so I believe Rikki is correct saying it depends on the type of editor. Still, probably a Firefox bug, it should not happen at all.
Dmacleo
mozilla blames it on cke, cke blames it on mozilla, yet it started happening after a cke update. it can (and has to me) happen on chrome too.
saggsab
Am I understanding this correctly, we have to tell members to set up their own spell check for their browser so it will work on the IPB postings? Shouldn't the board be made to make it easier for the members not harder?

Management Charles Posted September 15, 2013 Management Share Posted September 15, 2013 All we are saying is that every single modern web browser has spell check built-in. This means that it is pointless for us to put in a spell check feature when your browser already has it :)
