bmhrules Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 How about giving the user the option to turn on and off the image resize feature. I find it very useful, but some members might have a super large display and have no need for it, or don't want it on because it causes their browser to lag. (Sorry if this has already been suggested)
Mark H. Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 One thing I think we need, and as yet have not seen a Mod that will accomplish it, is:The Ability To Auto-Create: A Blog And ONE Main Gallery Album Per User, In The User's Name, At User CreationThe Ability To Have A Member's Albums And Blog Deleted (With "Move" Or "Delete" Options) If The Member Account Is Deleted (By User Or Admin). Blog was an afterthought, but does make it easier for new members who are unfamiliar with the concept. My users will be "Mature Adults" (ok, OLD). Mainly what I want to accomplish is this: At the moment, Members can create as many Albums as they wish at the 1st Sublevel of "Member's Gallery". GALLERY | -> 1st Sublevel (Members Gallery) <- I want only ONE Gallery Album created here, per member, and to prevent them from creating any here on their own. | -------> 2nd Sublevel (Now inside the Members own Gallery Album) Members can create ALL the Albums they want to HERE, and I encourage it. I can accomplish this MANUALLY as an Admin, if I restrict "write" permissions at 1st Sublevel and then remember to make an Album in their name, as I create users. I'm in a testing phase, so it's not a problem for me to add one for the Member. But as soon as the Forum goes live, that won't work once I open general Registration. I'd be swamped with requests to create their "Main Gallery Album". Now, if anyone knows of an existing Mod that will do this, PLEASE point me to it. ;) But I think that this is a feature that would be well-received. Thanks.
grinler Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 How about the ability to create a topic that is actually a redirect to an external page, or page outside the forums. Similar to how we can make a redirectable forum.
BryanH Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I'd like to throw in another suggestion for 3.0... RSS for threads, so we can monitor new replies on a particular thread. And RSS for members.
WebbyB Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Polls A small one, but having the Admin being able to see which members voted for what would be great (See also my other suggestions in the starting thread for this topic)Subscriptions Another small one, but you can't currently arrange which package should sit at the top of the "choose a subscription" page on the forum, I would want the ability to put the more enticing package at the top, but it's currently at the bottom, can you add functionality to arrange packages via the admin panel please?
W13 Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 MOBILE FRIENDLY FEEDS: Here, I'm importing RSS feed into feedburner, and then into Google Reader Mobile. I suggest IPB offer native mobile support, for ultra-low-fi text-only mobile, and also for graphical-mobile (iPhone, PSP, new Nokias, etc). General Discussion: http://www.google.com/reader/m/view/feed/h...scapeDiscussion Clan Discussion: http://www.google.com/reader/m/view/feed/h.../RunescapeClans Runescape News: http://www.google.com/reader/m/view/feed/h...z/RunescapeNews
W13 Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 GMAIL HOTKEYS I love using the Gmail hotkeys... would love them built into IPB.
Axel Wers Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Polls A small one, but having the Admin being able to see which members voted for what would be great Every member should see his/her own voting. This feature has phpBB3 and is really good.
Jason L Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Every member should see his/her own voting. This feature has phpBB3 and is really good. This would require a bit of extra work, as the board doesn't store what the user voted for, just that they voted. It would be nice to have the ability to set a poll for anonymous voting or tracked voting.
TCWT Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I want a feature to schedule a new topic to be created.
Axel Wers Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 This would require a bit of extra work, as the board doesn't store what the user voted for, just that they voted. It's a pity. There are some polls on my board where I voted two years ago and unfortunately I don't remember what I voted :(It would be nice to have the ability to set a poll for anonymous voting or tracked voting. Good.
Dlf Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I have one more suggestion for future versions. Would it be possible to show a little preview of the skin, when the user (/admin?) has the mouse over the skin in the skin selector (ACP side, and forum side)? Example: I can see a 'image" of what IPB Classic Blue{/i] would like look when my mouse is hovered over it, here. Same for IPB Board. Pro.
AeroFx Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Good ideas. The later one is tougher than it sounds, but something should be worked out. Ideally, I'd like to just see the buttons have no text on them and use CSS to style the words on top of the buttons, that way you don't have to worry about separate images per language pack. ill +1 on this, that would make skinning easier insted of an image for everybutton, i love this idea Brandon :) Id love to see this in ipb 3.0
Pete T Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 How about having the license key used better, in Vb you need it for installing the forum. This might help with amount off illgeal software being used. Point system not alwayed used on every forum so no point having it built in that is why someone has made mod its down to owner forum install it if wishes. I think be nice have better support for Mobiles like better wap support.
AeroFx Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Signature Feature I thogut possibly have it where you could upload your own signature or pick from a list as it is for Avatars, since somepeople cant make sigs there could be some premade one or ones we could make and upload.Admin panel Skins/skinning Could there possible be a feature to have it where u can choose what skin you want to use inthe admin panel as you do on the forums, i like chage from time to time and sometimes each admin dont like the theme the other likes, plus a possible skinning option as for forum skins , like acp, edit html wrapper ect, just like you do regualr skins
tomturd2 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 SEO, automated mod installation (like UMI) & signature limitations (eg no images, no large fonts, max 5 lines etc) would be my only suggestions.
Mark H. Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Apologies if this was already posted, but it would sure be nice to have the ability to Mark a forum as Read, WITHOUT a page refresh, ala vBulletin.
bfarber Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Apologies if this was already posted, but it would sure be nice to have the ability to Mark a forum as Read, WITHOUT a page refresh, ala vBulletin. Err, you can already do that. Just click the (unread) forum icon next to the forum title - it will change (and mark it as read) without refreshign the page.
WebbyB Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 SEO.. Agreed, i've mentioned this in my previous suggestions, but the Modules for SEO out there are very buggy (check each products forum for the problems) mainly because they are offering way too much, most users just want basic, Search Engine Friendly URL's and a Sitemap Generator... That'll do most people just great, the products that are already out there are Waaayyyy to bloaty and there's bugs galore in all of them, trying to be too much rather than just being a good solid product offering what people really need. There's also the fear of these products becoming discontinued leaving customers stranded and having to start again with the re-indexing of URL's... If IPB have this, then there's really no fear as it will be a supported product and i'd quite happily switch to using SEFURLs, to help my Search Engine Rank. If you could develop or at least think about developing SEFRU'sL & Sitemap Generator that would be ideal. Especially if you include Social Bookmarking Links. :) It's just a thought.
yacenty Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I'd like to recommend somehow dividing Forum and rest products like gallery and blog. Now gallery is a part of the forum, but I would like to see it more indepentet - not to see .../forum/index.php?com=gallery. instead of this I'd like to see .../gallery/index.php or sth similiar. Next issue is different METAs for forum and components - now we have alltogether. I'd like to see different keywords and description for forum and for rest of components. Now I'm on first place in the agriculture pictures in Poland but my forum is visible very low forum when You enter agriculture forum but as I know my forum is the biggest one in this area and I'm using cseo and over 300k pages are indexed by google. Brandon is it possible to see such ideas in the next big realease - I mean 3.0 or sth similiar. I know that is very big step in the general architecture of Your SW. Regards YacentY
Mark H. Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Err, you can already do that. Just click the (unread) forum icon next to the forum title - it will change (and mark it as read) without refreshign the page. Sorry, I could have stated that better.... With what you suggested, yes the forum icon goes to a "read" state, but you still have to refresh the page (F5). If you click some of them off, go to a sub-forum, and use the Back command (backspace), OR do a back command after marking some that way then go forward, they are now back on and NOT marked as read. Unless I'm doing something very wrong (certainly possible! :D ) or there's a setting I've missed. What I was referring to is, when you are in a forum and have read all the topics you care to but some are unread, using vB you do a drop-box "Mark Posts Read" then ALL the unread posts get marked as read, dynamically, on that page, and without a page refresh. Returning to the parent forum, even with backspace, shows that forum as having been read. Hope that makes sense? RV
GregF Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I think Subscriptions packages should have the option of simply adding a permission mask to the user instead of changing their group. This way you could have 10 different permission masks relating to different permissions to view certain forums and then you could offer different subscription packages for each permission. This way users could buy more than one subscription. I have a content based site with different categories and it would be nice to have multiple subscription packages for each. i.e Just say you had 3 sections of your site that you wanted to offer subscription access too: Section1 Section2 Section3 The way it currently is, you can only grant access via usergroup change. Correct me If I am wrong but this means you need to make users groups like Section1Only Section2Only Section3Only Section1And2 Section1And3 Section2And3 All Sections If you did it with forum masks instead you would only need one mask for each subscription. When a user subscribes they get the mask and when subscriptions expire they simply loose it. You could optionally have a one time user group upgrade from "members" to "subscribers" but you wouldn't need all of these redundant user groups. The various permission masks merge together at runtime. Any thoughts on this?
China J Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I'm all for improving the subscription system. It's really bogus IMO as it stands. I'm not sure if IPS would even consider improving it as it's new Product Nexus would stand to compete in this area. But then again they do persistently emphasize that Nexus is totally a different product not related to IP.Board... This should be high on the list of improvements for the IP.Community Suite :P +1
Elric Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I would really like to see a solution for limiting the amount of PMs a user can send per day. This is a huge problem with large forums where some members can produce tons of spam before the admins have a chance to react.
Anonymous IPB User Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I am not sure if these have been suggested yet, but I would like to see the following:Profiles: Improved with the ability to make them private or only viewable to friends. The ability to edit and personalize profiles like a myspace profile. Gallery/Forum integration: How about the ability to include the latest gallery entries in a forum, which could show up when you click the "view new posts" button?Reputation System: And I would LOVE to see a simple reputation system! An ideal reputation system would be a private one that only the member who receives the reputation can see and only allow positive reputation. This will eliminate the issues of negative reputation and allow for people to rep those who offer the best posts. I have seen these on forums and the members LOVE them!
