when the release of IPB 2.3.0

We likely won't be fixing every single bug that is confirmed. ;) Sometimes it makes more sense to cap the release and accept that there are a couple of minor issues remaining, rather than delay a release for months in an effort to fix those issues which affect very few people, or which are not worth spending the time to fix.

thats the closest thing i'd interpret to a "its due very soon" statement :P.

Well I'll give you guys credit for updating us on the status Bfarber gets +2 Rep Points ;) Anyways I think this release is a bit overdue but I just wanna update it and customize this new skin, before I entirely lose interest in the idea. Anyways a release tomorrow would be excellent, but if its not before the end of the week then thats just gonna be annoying.

Well hope everything is working fine in the 2.3.0 and looking forward to seeing it be released. Release when ready... not pre-mature we can all wait.

But upgrading is pretty easy right?

Yep. I don't see any difficulty difference between Upgrading and Installing ;)

The upgrader is very similar to the installer, it's very easy to do. However, upon release of 2.3 we can do the upgrade for you, if you wish :)

I don't get why anyone gets caught up with release dates. When it hits it hits. Until then, be happy with what you have. B)

People are anxious for the bug fixes. (i know i am) A lot of the really annoying one's have been shown as fixed in the bug tracker. Only a few more RTE one's left to go and 2.3 should be a very solid release.

I'll be installing first day if possible. Maybe even first hour :P

Now it has more confirmed than it did days ago. ahhhhh

Oh well. Seriously I don't know why I care. I justw ant it bug-free like everyone else. Any time something new is announced, it gets people wanting it quickly though. :)

Uh, where did you get this from?

We have less confirmed reports now than we did a few days ago...the most recent confirmed report is from May 3rd, and before that was April 26th..

I'm also eager for this new version, less for the bug fixes (although obviously I like those also), but more for any performance improvements under the hood. Unlike previous versions, I will be installing this version pretty quickly to take advantage of those improvements. :)

Maybe I just counted wrong a few days ago. I counted 10 one day then 9 a few days later. This time rather than count I looked at the drop down menu and see 11.

I am anxious since they said it would be released in a "few" days, meaning a few weeks in IPS language. :( So from the blog post a few days should have been the 7th, and that new skin has not even been added to these forums so we know the release is not tomorrow or the next day, unless its imported tonight or something.

I hate when they sorta inform us of a release date, but never follow through. I suggest as always either provide a specific date, and release it the night before for load balancing stuff, or don't release the date at all until your ready to add it to the downloads.

I'm looking to upgrade from debain sarge to etch on my server as soon as practical but would like to consolidate any possible downtime so I'm holding off until IPB 2.3 is out. If that's going to turn out to be months from now, I'd like to know so I can go ahead and upgrade. Sometimes people need to advise their users or clients of impending downtime. They need to set aside time in their calenders to do the work period. In short, people need to plan.

If I were running a board for a client and I was waiting for the next release for a bugfix, I couldn't tell them that whatever problem they were bugging me about would "be done when it's done." They would just go find someone who can give them a fixed answer, regardless of if it's accurate or not. As it's worked out in the past, IPS support people have been pretty good about helping with shoestring fixes until the next release is out. In general though, "it's done when it's done" is less than professional. It reminds me of the dark days of debian when sarge was a year and a half late.

"soon" and "a few days" aren't really specific, are they?

No they are not specific but generally speaking anybody that says I'll call you back in a few minutes, means somwhere around three. I'll see you soon means probably in the next month or a shorter time period depending on the reference.

Theres a new skin?

May 4 2007, 02:12 PM

The first will be a new supported skin that will be offered as a secondary default skin to the board. This first skin will be designed as a very basic skin (no gradients for example) thereby allowing for much easier color changes and such when you want to match it to your site. As a supported skin it will be updated between versions of our software.

We will be previewing the new skin on our company forums in the next few days and it will be available along with IP.Board's 2.3 release.

Almost a week from that post and nothing. <_<
