Suggestion: IPS Hosting Server Status Reliability
by Guest _Diesel_- 6 replies
- 3.3k views
Can't talk about this at IPS Beyond so.. let me try here as recommended from there. <_< First of all, I'm on an IPS hosted site. The IPS status site at http://www.ipshosting.net/ (when it's up) is not kept current. It also seems to go down when my server goes down. Are they on a single point of failure together? My site was down recently for a day and an additional day as a result of seeing the same MySQL error messages and the unchanged status site and assuming that everybody at IPS was aware of the problem. They weren't. First, is the status site still viable? When I can get to it without timing out through my ISP, I see old messages. How about more communica…

Suggestio: RSS import
by Guest ErwinB- 7 replies
- 2.1k views
Actually, when you set up an RSS import, you can specify the encoding of the feed. Great. Now, if I want to import an RSS feed in english (lang="en") in a french board (lang="fr"), I'm not able to specify that the imported posts will be in english and not in french. Can you add an option like that for a next release?

Unique Views / Viewing Own Topic
by Guest Logan- 4 replies
- 1.9k views
Viewing own Topic If the topic creator views their own topic, I don't think views should be incremented. This came to me when I ended up editing a topic of mine several times, and I noticed this newly created topic had 7 views. I really don't see any reason at all why views need to be incremented if a topic creator views their own topic. Unique Views Count only unique views instead of each individual view. ex: If I read a topic 13 times, instead of increasing the views by 13, increase it only by 1. This would probably be best as a setting.

Why the change in "View Topic History" ?
by Guest TCWT- 5 replies
- 2.1k views
I noticed that you guys changed the entry when a topic is locked to Altered topic state (opened/closed) from forum view It used to say ..... locked topic. Why make the change, I wouldn't know when a topic is opened or locked judging from "altered topic state ....."

Conditions: - Posting a reply in version 2.2.2 - "Merge member's concurrent posts" is enabled - Total number of IMG tags in two concurrent posts will exceed "Max. no. images per post" setting, but IMG tags in each post by itself is within the limit. Current behavior: Post unsuccessful - gives error "Cannot merge posts because resulting post would have too many IMG tags" Suggested behavior: Post successful, but NOT merged with previous post Perhaps the two behaviors could be toggled with an Admin CP setting - "Prevent Auto-Merge when Too Many Images". The code to force this behavior has been posted by C_ind and tested by me.

Bulk Email/Newsletter IPB
by Guest KiloKilo- 5 replies

We use IPB 2.1.7. I was making the newsletter for our forum and had it all nicely set up. But when testing the newsletter I noticed that all not of the styles (NOT ALL) were not taken care off. For a moment I was puzzled why the IPB Post Office would only allow certain styles and not others. After sending the newsletter again but without HTML support, I saw that IPB altered the document so that all the styles beginning with a point did not work. I tried putting double points with those styles and it worked. IPB only deletes the first point. So short for me a simple adjustment of the styles did the trick; From; <style type="text/css"> body { font-family: Arial…

Categories / Root Forums 1 2
by Guest Dan- 32 replies
- 8.5k views
In IPB 2.1, "Root Forums" or Categories were treated just like regular forums. You were able to make any forum a category by setting its parent as "Root Forum", and you could just set it as a child of another forum to make it a regular forum again... I've just tried to do it with a category on an IPB 2.2 board, but it appears that the "Category" edit screen is crippled to only allow you to change it's name and permissions... Nothing else. Just wondered if this was intentional ( for clarity or ease of use, maybe )? and if there's any chance of getting back some sort of "power user" mode for editing them with all the old options... :)

Suggestion: Option to sort unread topics toward page 1
by Guest SarcophaGuy- 4 replies
- 1.6k views
Hello, I really hope this isn't a redundant suggestion. I've been searching here and on the web for discussion of it without success. I really would like an option to cause all topics with unread posts (orange icons) to migrate toward the start of the 1st page. Currently, as a topic ages out from inactivity it moves toward higher numbered pages whereas topics that are active get bumped to the low numbered pages. I would like that behavior with the (optional) behavior that all those with unread posts are moved to the low numbered pages. In other words, to have the sort order by unread=true then by activity. Why is this useful? I find it tedious to have to position …

Bug Tracker and RSS Feeds
by Guest ErwinB- 8 replies
- 3.2k views
I have a suggestion for IPS Staff. Actually, RSS feeds doesn't care about the different versions of a same product. It may be cleaner and easier to have a feed for IPB 2.2.x bugs, a feed for IPB 2.1.x bugs, a feed for each IP.Gallery and IP.Blog versions, etc. I suggest this because we plan to import theses feeds to our forums. But actually, there is no version sorting and this makes a huge import to do, and difficult to class to the right support forum. Is there any way to improve the Bug Tracker feeds?

Allow editing of member profiles and warnings
by Guest Super Mr Average- 19 replies
- 6.1k views
Currently when you edit a member from admincp some fields are editable and some you can only remove like avatars and profile pictures. Is there a reason for this ? Also I propose editing of members should link to editing a member in the admincp from the members profile. Currently Invision has inline editing of some options but these options are quite limited. Last thing I noticed about Invision was that the warnings only notifys the member that he / she has a warning but includes next to no details regarding which post they commited an offense in Will version 3.0x be expanding on these features ?

Suggestion / Idea: Quote and Quoting
by Guest Keven Fox- 8 replies
- 3.3k views
Okay came up with an idea after seeing so many quoted people and other sites that maybe IP.Board could have 2 quote tags. What I mean is you use normal quote when replying, or mass replying. Then when you want to quote an article or something you use another quote which looks different. Good idea? It would just look a bit different I guess. What do you think?

by Guest Petrescu- 2 replies

Just a few questions, Any idea when the release is looking? Late 2007 or are we looking at 2008? I hear they'll be a new skin but I hope Invision let us in on what new features to expect this time because 2.2 ended up a bit of a disappointment for me after how long it took to be released. Hopefully it will be worth the wait (and going on past experiences I'm guessing we'll be in for one) I'd like to make a request for Invision to not change the ibf_posts table since I've had a nightmare 3 months getting my forum upgraded from 2.1.7 to 2.2.2 :( Sorry if it's too early to be asking about it, I was just interested since 2.2 has been out for a good few months now.

I was thinking that maybe you could add a feature to allow members to set posts to read without having to view the post or without having use the set forum as read either. So ability to set a individual topic. I have kinda a cool way of doing this which is just to have the ability to click and hold the "view new post" icon [] to set a post as viewed. Its no more load, in fact its less than having to view a topic and wizz back out. Also its a nice a tidy way to do it imo and has been done many times in forum view for various tools mods/admin posses.

Automatc MSN contact adding

This only works in IE (obviously) but it's a neat little piece of javascript I came accross today and added to my own forum, and it works well, thought you might want to add it in :) In skin bit personal_portal_main find this: <{PRO_MSN}> <span id='pp-entry-contact-entry-msn'>{$member['_msn_name']}</span> Change it to this: <{PRO_MSN}> <span id='pp-entry-contact-entry-msn'><a href = "msnim:add?contact={$member['_msn_name']}">{$member['_msn_name']}</a></span> Now when you click on an MSN address in someone elses profile, if you're using a recent version of IE and MSN Messenger, it will automatically add them to your co…

[RFE] Add PM to sent items folder by default
by Guest Dodger- 3 replies

Hi, Subject says it all. So far, I've been able to select the checkbox by default with the following changes to func_msg.php: - Comment out line #313 - Add an else clause on line #385: else // Not preview, not saved. { $footer_defaults = array( 'add_sent' => "checked='checked' ", 'add_tracking' => "" ); } . . . but this has no affect when replying to a received message (or forwarding one). I guess I should set the add_sent element within the blocks beginning on lines 365 (forward message) and 372 (reply to mes…

Version Update Check Feature Request
by Guest AssassinCS- 2 replies
- 1.6k views
Just a small feature request. I think it would be cool that if your running an Invision component. that on your main admin screen when your first login it should check all there versions and display if they are up to date. EG Im running Forums, Gallery and Downloads so it would be cool if. I log into Admin it displays: *Where Version tracker for Board usually is* Forums Up to date! Gallery up to Date! Downloads up to Date! and if the persons running IP Blog Blog up to Date! Just a tiny feature that saves a few seconds going thru each component screen checking versions.
