  1. Hey guys, 

    I have come across this issue a few times now on my community and its getting more frequent. To explain, I have subscription levels with different upload attachment quota's for members. The issue I am coming across is when a user has hit the attachment quota limit associated with their subscription level, they get a non precise error which leads us to receiving unnecessary support tickets due to confusion. See the error below that our users receive when they hit the quota limit.

    Could contain: Text, Computer Hardware, Electronics, Hardware

    Users will create support tickets making the assumption that either: 

    A. We have changed our file upload policies regarding single file upload size 
    B. That there is some form of platform bug 

    When neither of the above is the case.

    This message needs to be far clearer than it is. At the very least it should elude to the fact the user has reached their attachment quota limit, or do not have enough remaining quota for the upload.

    They way users read it is "1 file would exceed the total allowed size....". Allowed size of what exactly ? 

    Hopefully this message can be made clearer moving forward, it would be appreciated.

    Hmmm, I can check into that, but I have multiple monitors that let me know as soon as they site becomes unreachable in one way or another and none of them have been triggered. I have also tried on several occasions to do the verification and during every one of those periods, the site was 100% up. 

    I will speak with the host and see if they have had any similar issues and do some tests with CF. Will report back any findings.

  3. Hey guys, 

    I am setting up ads for my site, however I keep hitting a wall with finishing the setup due to "Policy Violations". The policy violation being that for some reason every time Google attempts to verify it keeps reporting that the "Site Is Down Or Unavailable", see below screenshot. 

    Could contain: Page, Text, File

    I cannot see anything that would block Google from accessing the site. We have Google Analytics/Indexing etc accessing the site just fine, so I see no reason for Adsense to have problems. I have tried asking for assistance on the Google forums but they are not particularly helpful...in the sense I have not heard from anyone. I know the URL is fine as Google has already verified the adsense code snippet and ads.txt file. So its looking in the right place.

    Has anyone else experienced this with their IPS community ? If so, hoe did you manage to remedy it ?

    Ahh right, understood. That is a shame, at least we have it available for the Mark Site As Read. Manually refreshing the page after Marking Forum items as read is no big deal.

    Make sure the plugin was uninstalled. This is now an application, so if for some reason the plugin is still installed, it is running the plugin, not the application. After uninstalling the plugin, if that’s the case, go to the app settings and choose the groups.

     

    I can only assume it is something on my site then that possibly interferes. I have made sure the plugin no longer exists and I have made sure all the group settings are correct for the application, however I still have to manually refresh the page for the counter to update.

    I note in your video you are clicking on "Mark Site As Read", I am trying to use the "Mark Forum As Read" function.

    If I use the "Mark Site As Read" the application functions correctly. Can we make it do the same for Mark Forum As Read" ?

    Thanks! I did just install the new app, but the behaviour is still the same...at least for me. When I mark a forum as read, the page refreshes but the counter does not, the counter only updates when I refresh the page via the browser.

    Sorry, it seems I missed this one. Nope, not possible. This is not "Forum" resource and it uses an existing stream to grab the counter.

    Ahh right. I appreciate you looking into it again to see if it is possible to bring back that behaviour.

  9. @Adriano Faria an improvement request if possible as per here: 

    Summary, when a user in any given forum selects "Mark forum as read", when the page refreshes it will update the forum, but not the unread counter. You need to do an additional refresh for the counter to update. Can it be made so the counter refreshes when the system automatically refreshes the page when marking all items read ?

    I had a look through the notification settings on my IPS site and note there does not seem to be an option to receive only a single daily digest email, did I miss something or is this something that is not part of the suite ?

  13. Thanks Marc. Although my queries are not addressed, let me rephrase with some edits:

    ** Subscription purchase is mandatory for registering a new account. **

    Query-1. A Guest (unregistered member) registers with a subscription (with 7-day free trial), and is supposed to move into PREMIUM group C. During the trial period, in which group they would be?

    Query-2. The renewal term starts at $10 per month; and upon successful payment, will they remain in the same PREMIUM group C?

    Query-3. Do the change of group action occur during the renewal or once they bought the trial subscription?

    Query-4. If their renewal term does not start due to payment issues at their end; will they remain in PREMIUM group C? If not, then where?

    Query-5. In which group they will move back if the purchase expires or is canceled? Remember, they were registered from being Guest.

    Any knowledgable member can guide please.

    Please guide me as to how this model could work for subscriptions?

    Member Groups:
    -- Guest: Unregistered
    -- A (BASIC): Minimal access (IPS Group ID=3 default)
    -- B (TRIAL): Average access (IPS Group ID=7)
    -- C (Premium): Full access (IPS Group ID=8)

    We want when a Guest (unregistered member) buys a 7-day free trial subscription upon registration, they are moved into TRIAL group B. After 7-day free trial, the renewal term starts at $10 per month; and upon successful payment, they are then moved into PREMIUM group C. The subscription package is set when their purchase expires or is canceled, they go back into the previous group; ideally we want them to be moved back into BASIC group A.

    Ques-1. Will they be moved from Guest (unregistered) to PREMIUM group C immediately upon registration; or initially they will be moved to BASIC group A/B for 7 days, and then after 7-day free trial, they move to PREMIUM group C? How does that work?

    Ques-2. After 7-day free trial, if their renewal term does not start due to payment issues at their end; will they remain in group A/B (until their payment issue is resolved) and continue to enjoy the perks of group A/B free trial membership unless an Admin takes some manual action? Or they will be moved out from group A/B and placed in the Guest group? And if they move into the Guest group, will they still be a registered member (i.e. can they login) or their registration will be deleted from the system (like they were unregistered visitor before registering)?

    Please advise, how to achieve this. I have gone through the IPS docs, guides and forum topics; but unable to find any solution.

    Regarding a recent topic of mine. @Jim M suggested I make a formal feature suggestion.

    Regarding the Checkout process for Subscription Packages or Donations (or anything involving the checkout process). We recently had the issue whereby bots would continuously try to make donations, ultimately this would fail. However the bot would proceed to do the literally hundreds of times over the period of a few hours. We want to keep our donations open to legitimate Guests for income reasons, but at the moment this comes at the risk of a bot attack. 

    While we could block some of these attacks at the server level, this is not very efficient as the locations geographically and IP wise will always be different and we would need to keep adding offenders on an adhoc basis. So having an inline protection in IPS would make more sense.

    My suggestion would be that during the checkout process that there is some form of captcha or similar method to prevent the bots from doing what they are doing. 

    What do you think ?

    There is not a CAPTCHA for checking out. You can disable Guests from adding things to their cart which will in turn prevent invoices and thus go through registration and validation to purchase things. Alternatively, you can certainly suggest any preventative measures you see fit in our Feature Suggestion forum.

    I will make that feature suggestion. Just a quick one, where do I go to set it so that guests cannot add anything to cart ?

    While I agree that is the most sensible way to go about it, is there not a way to implement a captcha method of sorts to help mitigate it? 

    Blocking from the network level is fine, but would have to be done on a case by case basis depending on the origin of the attach etc. I would have thought a captcha method would catch any and all different offenders.

    Hey Jim

    I have not deleted any groups in a good while, do the activity notes state which group was removed ?. None of the groups which should have been applied to the user have been removed, possibly edited but that should not make any difference I would imagine. I would still have expected all the groups selected in the subscription settings to have been applied to the user.
