The initiation method isn’t the most important part. The optimization methods apply to all of them.

Looking at the screenshots, your system mails go out directly from your server. So you need to make sure your DNS settings are optimized for that as well, not just for the external services like ConvertKit you use. In fact, it could be that adding DNS settings for those external service actually deligitimized sending mails from your own server. You need to make sure that all sending options are included in your DNS settings.

You can check with your host. They probably have settings and information directly relating to SPF/DKIM/DMARC …
I always optimize this stuff using the Mail Tester website. By the way: You can do 3 tests for free per day. You should end up with at least of score of 9.

Thank you for your reply and about the Mail Tester website!

I'll ask my host right away and test once the DNS settings are correct. 🙂

  2. For the GMAIL/YAHOO thingy, I had to verify:

    • ConvertKit (which sends emails on my behalf with my domain)
    • Google (which sends emails on my behalf with my domain via Gsuite)

For that, ConvertKit and Google both provided me with spf, dkim and dmarc to add to my domain DNS.

Am I wrong thinking Invision sends emails on my behalf with a no-reply@vocalize.fr email address and that it should also be verified?

    Sorry if I'm completely mistaken.

  3. **Self Hosted Community**

    Hi all,

Recently, I've been getting several emails from new members saying they did not receive their access.

As always, I reply asking if they've searched into all their folders (spams...).

And each time, they say they've looked and there's nothing nowhere.

So I did the test myself with a gmail email address and... no automatic access email nowhere.

PS: I did not seem to have this kind of problem before the Google and Yahoo DMARC mess but maybe it is a completely different reason.

  4. Hi All!

One of my student told me she was not receiving any notification for a Topic she follows (it was working fine previously).

I tested with a test account and I am not receiving any notification either.

Any idea why it's (not) happening?

    email deal with it GIF

PS: I'm wondering if it has something to do with the whole Gmail / Yahoo compliance thinggy. Are Invision's notification emails all verified SPF, DKIM, DMARC.

That looks to be the ban page, but modified. The only way that can be showing on your site is if your IP is banned, in the scenario you mention. So I would advise checking the list again. If you are then unsure, please feel free to PM me your IP address when you see that issue, and ensure login details are up to date on file

    Found it 😬

There was a previous user that was banned and he had MY own IP showing as his own (I don't know why but that's the reason).

    Deleted that banned guy/IP.

Thanks for insisting in me checking that Banned column @Marc Stridgen!

I guess I have to wait a bit before the system allows my IP now...?

What apps do you have installed? Did this start to happen immediately after using the VPN or was there some other change done to the forum?

I am using VPN as well and I can't reproduce this. WHat are the following settings set to in your Acp?

Trust IP addresses provided by proxies?

Check IP address when validating session?

    Restrict Referrer Policy

They all can be found under the Server Configuration area.

One more question, is there any detailed error message logged in the SYstem Logs page pertaining to this?

Unfortunately, I tried to allow all those but nothing has changed.

    Thanks @Miss_B!

    I'll go and check those.👍

And no, no other error message than what you see on the screenshot.

You can see if your IP is banned on the ACP => Members => Ban Settings page.

That said, this doesn't look like a banned error message for me, we don't use "non-member" anywhere in our language strings. Did you customize the language or is this probably a 3rd party issue?

Thanks @Daniel F, yes, my community language is in French, I did a Google translate for you guys 🙂

No, my IP is not showing under the Ban column...

So just to make it clear:

When my VPN is ON (whatever IP, country...), I can access my forums.
When the VPN is OFF, I'm locked out (and it does not even ask to log in, no action can be taken on the page as you see).

  9. Hi all,

I've been having this issue for a couple of weeks since I started using a VPN.

The issue: when I am not using the VPN, I cannot access my own community anymore (as if my IP was recognise as spammer or else).

I can access the Admin dashboard.

Where can I mark my IP as safe please? Or remove my IP from the blocked IPs?

I lose so much time switching from VPN on/off (and I cannot work all the time with it being "on" cause it slows down my connection like crazy).

    Thanks for your help 🙂

  10. Hi @Jim M,

I had the same kind of issue.

I just created my first Alert and received emails from users.

No problem on desktop but when on Smartphone, I could not read the whole message (box bigger than screen, not scrollable nor on the left or the right).

But most of all, I could not see DISMISS to close the Alert if watching my phone vertically.

I only could see DISMISS when switching to the horizontal view.

I have 2 questions regarding this:

    • does this happen because my sentences were too long? 🤭
    • is there a way to translate DISMISS (I went to my French translation but did not see the possibility when searching for it)?

I am not that tech savvy so I may not be able to help you the way @RevengeFNF could help you. Sorry about that.

    Thanks for your help!

I just asked an update on this bug in this thread then read your new topic...

So it looks like it has not been resolved yet.

If by tagged you mean this @VahnPetit then IPS 4.6.9 has this fix in it:

Prior to IPS 4.6.9, they would appear - and it was a feature of my Mention list enhancements application to allow them to be hidden.

In short - if you are running IPS 4.6.9 then you should no longer be able to @mention a banned account.

    Yay!

    Just updated, thank you! 😊
