  1. I'm shockingly bad at css but can just about get by. I like using the wordpress customiser as I can see in real time what effects my code is having, whereas on invision I have to make changes, save, then refresh to view. Is there a more efficient way to go about it for someone at my level?

It's almost like opentype has used pages a couple of times 😉

I probably should have just asked him directly, pretty sure he made the knots.css file now I think about it 😀

    Under Pages → Templates.

And yes, that’s the right way to add page-specific CSS.

    Thank you sir.

  3. I am making a few pages and rather than cluttering up the customcss folder I would like to use folders specific for each individual page. I assume this is a better option also as it will only load up when that page is viewed.

When creating a page I see there is an option for selecting an existing css file. How do I create a new file that will show amongst these options please?

    Apologie the delay,

You'll also need an email provider and a bridge between your community and the app!

It's an external app, providing the necessary features and UI to manage newsletters (and much more) . You'll still have to use an email provider. While they also support SMTP out of the box I wouldn't recommend it. https://spatie.be/docs/laravel-mailcoach/v4/configuring-mail-providers/introduction

So to sum it up: It's probably not exactly what you're searching:) It's just the admin backend to create and manage stuff, which is really amazing and working well for my own needs ( drip campaigns, newsletters, etc..) , but you'll still need a proper mail provider AND if you want to use it in combination with your IPS, you'll need a custom plugin to connect these 2 apps.

Hence you're not a developer, I would probably strongly advice to NOT use this solution;)
One could of course use IPS for this or create an own app similar to this, but I prefered the one time purchase to get all the automation features https://mailcoach.app/automation, especially because it was much cheaper a while ago)

Thanks Daniel, Yep you are probably right its not going to serve my needs if sendgrid or the like is still required. Thanks for the response.

I have some good experiance with Mailcoach, which is also a self hosted script https://spatie.be/products/mailcoach

So my only expense with that would be the initial outlay for the software? Does this have systems in place to prevent blacklisting? Do you manually have to update the subscription list or have you integrated it with IPS?

I installed https://www.mailwizz.com/ on my server and send about 1000 email a day.  It works well and it's affordable.

Thank you. More or less same questions about this as I made above to Daniel

  6. Looking at options for sending out newsletters. In the past I have just done it directly through the admin panel, being careful to only send 1000 at a time to minimise the risk of being blacklisted. Now I have taken someone on who is going to be managing regular email marketing campaigns monthly, or perhaps even weekly to a subscription base of 30,000. I would like to know what software everyone is using to do this. I have obviously looked at the obvious ones like mail chimp and active campaign, but the prices are going to stack up pretty damm quickly using those.

I see invision already has send grid set up for use, but that doesn't look cheap either. Also if I understand it correctly, using that will mean forum notification emails etc will go through that also, eating into my valuable quota.

I do have some budget on this but obviously want to do it the most cost efficient way. If this means sending it through invision still with a workaround to avoided being blacklisted that would obviously be great. Particularly if the email campaign (opens, click throughs etc) can be tracked.

Hope to get some good replies from you guys. Thanks.

One of my sideline gigs is to sell website hosting to help me pay for the server that my Invision community needs to run on. To manage that side of things I opted to use WHMCS to help me with the billing and it's been fine. I also tried using the built in Invision Servers feature which does a similar thing and it integrated pretty well with my WHM/cPanel software.

However WHMCS has now gotten greedy and they are now charging their license out based on the number of active clients each of their customers has. They are introducing changes on 1 July that have upset a LOT of their loyal customers, myself included. So I thought I would look at migrating my client base from WHMCS to Invision, but I see that there is a message in ACP advising that the feature is deprecated in 4.5 and will be removed in the next release.

This is sad because there is now an active need for a good solution for web hosting billing and this might be a great opportunity for Invision to provide that solution.

Maybe management can provide some input as to why they are removing it?

Interested in this. I now sell hosting on 3 separate servers so was looking for a billing option also, and noticed invision have stopped this.

    @Martin A. and @Steve Bullman,

Afraid my knowledge of what the maps can and cannot do is limited, so maybe some form of restriction from entering a postcode, street name or physically dropping a pin? So this would force the user to only type in a town, city?

However if that is possible, maybe consider some form of user group based permissions...

For example I would want to restrict my members to protect their privacy etc, but I have Club Sponsors who as a business would want their exact location pinning and I would consider having pins for events/meeting locations etc.

    Regards

    Jim

Ive just done more or less the same thing on my site with user based permissions.

Regular guests and members get to see a map at a fixed location which is of no real use. To be able to zoom right in they need to upgrade.

Image below is what regular members see. Enough to see theres something in their area but not enough to present any security issues.

That is something I want to do, but not sure how I can do that technically.

One thing that could be done it to add/remove a random number from the coordinates to intentionally misplace the marker.

The answers simple. Restrict the map zoom. Is there any real need for people to be able to zoom right in to see the very street someones on?

Yellow Pages and SuperDirectory are based on IPS’ Pages app. Think of them as a styling optimized for directories. You will not gain functionality as you would with an app that is specifically coded to be directory.

Yellow pages does say it comes with support for google maps though, so must be possible for search functionality to be added?
