It’s just a much more involved process in comparison to just adding your API details as with SendGrid. A sys admin who manages web servers, DNS settings and the like will have no problem with the process, but I wouldn’t recommend it to the regular IPS community owner. You can see the long list of instructions here: https://invisioncommunity.com/files/file/9803-aws-simple-email-service-with-bounce-management/
Of course it’s doable, but one also needs to maintain that and know what to do when problems arise. So, I am hesitant to recommend it unless people the necessary experience.

I appreciate that, I am the regular low tech administrator, so I'll probably stay away from it for now. I am testing disabling tracking in Sendgrid, and disabling tracking at the SendGrid portal in admin/email settings/sendgrid. IP has a built in feature as well to disable tracking from SendGrid. I'll report back

  2. I switched my bulk mail preferences to PHP for a test, and the unsubscribe link works now. I can't leave it on PHP though, my host a2hosting does not like bulk mails going through their system, I get a nasty gram telling me to stop that, so I need to find a mailing service other than SendGrid.

Just wanted to report in that switching to PHP does indeed work.

This issue has been resolved in the recently released 4.7.3 version. Please upgrade to resolve this. If you are then still experiencing problems, please let us know.

Good evening Marc, ya we are still experiencing this issue, not as bad as before, but every now and then one comes through 🙂

  4. I would love to see notifications when an admin or staff recognizes member content. Here are a few examples of notifications sent to a member when:

    • Notification sent when gallery image is featured
    • Notification sent when any content is featured
    • Notification sent when content is picked by "Our Pics"

As it is right now, members would not know if their content was featured or chosen for "Our Picks".

I am sure there are other "ego booster" notifications that could be triggered. This would increase happiness, ego, and recognition, and encourage members to return to the community and engage, or re-engage.

Also, I think it would be really neat if a topic could be pushed as a Bulk Mail from the front end. There are many instances when a really wonderful topic has been created by one of our members, or by Staff, and a quick button for use by admins would be nice to click at the topic level, and push that topic out as a bulk mailing.

    Thanks for the consideration.

Go to your Profile -> Edit Profile 🙂 . It's a custom profile field.

    Yep, definitely a DUH moment!

On that note, should website url be a contact method, or should a contact method be email address, phone number, or other?

I like the ability to show a website url, but it seems that a website url would not be a way to contact someone? Just musing.

And, it's called "Contact Methods" plural, so should there be multiple methods of contact?

Please keep in mind that when we say a future maintenance release, we do not always mean the next release 🙂 . You can check our release notes for when the bug is fixed/released. Currently, this is still in our queue to be reviewed by our dev team.

I know that Jim, I'm just being an inpatient pain in the arse.

Thank you however I feel like this shouldn't be a 3rd party app but part of the core functionality of the forums app, so I would rather leave this here as a feature suggestion for a future update of the Invision Community software.

I do too, it would be nice to let the reporting member know that they are appreciated and informed the report is satisfied. I know it's not a huge deal, but at this point I have to send the reporting member a private message thanking them for the report, and what action was taken, it would be nice if this process was automated.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention! I can confirm this should be further reviewed and I have logged an internal bug report for our development team to investigate and address as necessary, in a future maintenance release.

Thanks Marc, actually I've been dealing with it for a looong time, I thought it was supposed to be that way, but then decided perhaps it's not. 🙂

I appreciate your confirmation of my insanity.

  9. While configuring the image feed block settings to display images from the gallery, there is a setting for Minimum Rating (star rating). If you accidentally select a star rating, you cannot deselect it. This becomes problematic if you want to display recent images in the feed, if the image does not have the minimum star rating, the image will not show.

I'm not sure this is a bug, but a feature that needs to be adjusted? Or am I seeing this all wrong? Thanks in advance for any help and direction.

It’s not that he technically can’t disable them. It’s that disabling them would remove functionality that is important to their site.

So it’s more of seriously not wanting to versus not actually being able to.

Well, that's typically the way it is, then he'd have to take his community off line for a half hour and perform maintenance? We all do it now and then. 🙂

But I get it, if it's an intermittent issue, it may not present itself quickly, hmmm.

  11. Our members lately have been getting email notifications that they have replies to their topics, all is well there, but within the email it also states they should visit the topic and mark an answer with a solution. This is odd as these forums do not have "Solved" enabled. This is confusing to many.

See screen shot below from reporting member. There at this point several reporting this issue.

    Invision Community v4.7.2.1

Could contain: File, Word, Text, Webpage, Page

    Could contain: Text, Clothing, Apparel

@JohnCourtI am not using the hosted version, just the self-hosted, so it is almost just a small one-off purchase. For the migration, they have tools but only available with the hosted plan and not the cheapest. Someone quoted me a fee for the migration from bbpress to IP forum that is about equivalent to one month revenue of my whole membership. So, at this point, that is why I am not converting to the IP forum yet.

I am self hosted too Carole, and they migrated my content to my server. Hmmm, things may have changed then, that was back in 2014. I don't remember what I paid though, but ya I get it, funding these projects can be a challenge. Thanks again Carole, wished I had an answer to your original theme question for the gallery.

And eventually, I might also migrate to the IP forum too.

I was a little confused Carole, thanks for your answer, I was just thinking it seems like a lot of money to spend for a gallery, and have all that wonderful IPS software hanging out there being unused, my personal opinion, get your community converted to IPS, you'll go through some growing pains for a very short while, but the reality is, IPS is waaaay more intuitive for members to use, upload images, post topics, etc etc, I know as an administrator you have your own reasons for not doing just that, but it sure seems like it would confuse members to be using two different software, not that it's not done, but I see headaches in the future for you if you are going to start an IPS gallery for your bbPress members to add images too, then when you do go to convert your bbPress to IPS, it's going to be weird, I cannot pinpoint or give you examples of the weirdness and headaches you may experience, it's just my gut feeling that it may be a headache.

I do believe IPS has a wonderful conversion tool for transferring all your topics, posts, members and much more over to IPS. I came from a proprietary software named NING, they don't offer that conversion tool anymore, because it was a headache for IPS gurus, but even as hard as that conversion was, it was very successful.

Just my opinions, which are worth about a penny anywhere! 😄

  14. That's strange, I would have thought prefixes could be set for forum topic titles, because you can assign prefixes to downloads when downloads are created, and assigned to a forum for display. Seems the same could be done for forum topics, maybe in a future version, it would be a great suggestion to the gurus.
