  1. Just adding a line here for completion's sake and thanks Adriano for taking a look at my test site. It looks like the problem was that I tried to upgrade from a version that it was too old (probably 4.0.x)... and a bit of backwards and forwards uninstalling and re-installing may have done something to the database. So, I restored a backup, installed the latest Links version from scratch and it's working fine. So, all good now.

  2. I had Links from 3.4. First I tried to upgrade from it. It all looked normal from the ACP but nothing really showing on the front. Since I only had a few links that I could reproduce anyway, I decided to uninstall and install the new version of Links from scratch.

Then all looked good but when I create a new link it leads to Classifieds instead.

  3. Hi Adriano,

Happy new year. I've just installed the links directory on my test installation 4.2.6 (PHP version 7.1.12, MySQL version 5.7.19). I've created the categories and added a first link. When I click on it two things can happen depending if I have Classifieds enabled or not.

When Classifieds is enabled, it gives me this error message:

If I disable Classifieds, it gives me this other error message:

Clearing the cache, did not help. Any ideas?

  4. Something a bit odd happened when placing the Superlist block on a page (the home page) that was using the Supergrid database. Once I placed and saved the block on the page, the records on the page that belonged to the Supergrid database disappeared. The Supergrid database still exists with the entries and the page that belonged to it still exists too, but does not contain the database any longer.

Is there any way to relink page and database?

In any case, it's not a big problem if not possible, as this is on a test site with just a few entries, I can do everything again, and next time not place the Superlist block on that page but on a new one (which is actually my idea for the finished product). But just letting you know, firstly to ask if I can relink them, and secondly to check if you experienced any conflict between these two templates. Cheers.

  5. Hmm, this is going to take me a bit of effort to achieve, as I'm just starting to grasp Pages, which for some reason I've always had trouble doing so.

Okay, I've followed the instructions and my first doubts when creating the database are:

Create records as list or as articles?

Do I use the Supergrid template (which I happen to have too and sits there as the default option for me) or a different one?

    Hi,

I have selected only 1 forum in the feed configuration but it is pulling in topics from other forums and displaying them in the block

    Is this a bug?

Ah, so you can pull out posts from the subforums you wish? This is something I was wishing it to be possible but I couldn't find a reference to that in the Marketplace description.

@opentype I'm been playing around with the Supergrid for Pages, I assume this one works similarly when it comes to dealing with images, that is, uses the attachment if any. Are there any plans in the future to alternatively use the first image it finds in the post? This would make it very practical as some people attach images but other people link to images instead. If this was possible the block would practically self-manage.

This app was created while it wasn't possible to use our picks as homepage, it's probably useless now, BUT we've been working hard the 2 days to enhance it, to give the people which bought this app some new features!
    More information TBA ;)

It may be just my installation but I did have a problem when I tried the native IPS way. I would set up Our Picks as the home page, yet if I clicked on the forum's logo or the Home link, Our Picks wouldn't show the photos, only the text.

However, this app has worked as intended and I don't have the same problem with it. So, not quite obsolete yet. ;) (Not sure if I'll have Our Picks as the home page, but I'm just testing at the moment).

  8. I like the idea of this, while I probably wouldn't go as far as implementing something that allows a member to block all his posts to other members, blocking one's own topics sounds like a fair compromise.

If I may add an idea for future versions, it would be great to also being able to exclude some subforums, as content may differ greatly and for some of it (banter, discussions, etc) allowing members to block others could be a blessing, when it comes to other content of a more specific nature, I tend to look at it differently.

But, either way, I'll be getting this when I finally upgrade my live site. :)

  9. A great feature would be for stream forums selection (for admins) to be able to exclude rather than include. Those of us with heaps of subforums find the default solution extremely cumbersome. In fact IPS should provide the alternative, but until and if they do it, that's an idea. :)

Adding my +1 to this as well. We definitely need search for custom fields. :)

Apart from several and diverse individual needs to do this people may have, it occurs to me that this shortcoming is also holding Pages from achieving its best potential. I really need this badly for a third app I have on the forums; however, I run IPB for my forums, blogs, etc (still 3.4 and waiting on this precisely so I can upgrade), then I run a directory on Joomla (using SobiPro), and a splash page on Wordpress matching the look of the Joomla one, but giving me a bit more flexibility for SEO purposes. (Maybe a bit overkill when my forums subdomain cannibalize any SEO attempts as it is the most popular one, but never mind that)

My wish is not having to run a website that consists of 3 completely different pieces of software any longer, and I'd be happy happy to do the whole lot with IPS (and maybe move all just to the top domain). However, while I'm sure that you must be able to build a directory using Pages (or maybe Pages and other apps too), you cannot have a directory where users can search by attributes if you cannot search custom fields (yes, you have tags, but I think it's not quite the same). So, I really hope this functionality is back with IPS 4.3.

Not in 4.1.17? So bad :(

A pity as being able to select the subforums for the activity stream is a must for some communities. But while this is in revision, I have to say that the capacity of excluding subforums (rather than adding them in) would be even better, particularly when you consider some communities have many subforums and only a few of these are generally the ones people need to leave out. That's the way it's been in previous versions of IPB when it came to New Content too.

  12. Considering on 3.4 and earlier versions you could choose what groups could see profiles, and now it doesn't look like being the case (sorry if I'm mistaken as I'm new to IPS 4), this is a pretty good idea to give admins some control back. Now, does this plugin extend to the "About Me" field? Or are there any plans to do so in the future?

    Hello,

I've used a column 'description'. Check a table 'topics'. Otherwise you will need to rename a column.

Hello, could expand on this renaming thing please? I bought this plugin and it works fine. Now before I used the (Pav33) Topic Description hook. I didn't uninstall it but the old topic descriptions from IPB 3.4 are not showing now on IPB 4.1. Maybe they are gone from the database, but I suspect they are probably there somewhere. I can see in the database where your new data is, but who knows where the previous one was. Mind you, databases scare me, every time I even just look at one, I feel like I'm performing open brain surgery ;)

Now, I've only upgraded my test installation of IPB to 4.1, my live site still is (and will be for quite some time) 3.4. Even looking at that database I cannot find where the descriptions are (and they do show on the forums, so they are there somewhere).

So, any help you could provide regarding this would be much welcome. Cheers.
