We sincerely appreciate all the hard work our volunteer teams put in. We also sincerely appreciate you taking the time out to thank them for this hard work. :)

Could it be made (in 3.0.2) to only ask twice if it won't be going to the trashcan? The second warning having a big unavoidable note saying that it cannot be undone, ie, not going into the trashcan.

I've been a customer of IPB since 2004. Next month will be our 5 year anniversary. We have a large board/gallery/blog and use Parachat, as well. Throughout the five years, we have consistently received outstanding support from IPB. At this point, I can not imagine trying to run my business without them. Getting the supported solution (we have our own IPB supported server) was one of the smartest business decisions I made.

Example: We were having issues with our database off and on during the past few weeks. Despite all of the upgrade madness going on at the moment, the guys (especially Jason and Blake) kept at the issue until they found what was behind the crazy symptoms. Of course, they fixed it. They listen to my feedback about what is going on and use that as a starting point to dig into the problem.

As a note to new customers: During this extremely busy time, I would highly recommend that if you find it is necessary to put in an emergency ticket requiring immediate attention(such as having database errors which essentially take you offline, having errors that can't be worked around while you are in the pile, or if you have your board disappear from the planet), it can help things move along a little better if you put in the ticket AND call the support phone number and explain what's going on. IPB will then pull your ticket out of that massive pile of upgrade requests and issues they are currently wading through and get to work on it. (Normally, this is not necessary.)

Of course, it is best to only tell them that you have an emergency if you actually have an emergency.

As another note: I've never seen them as busy as they have been during this 3.0 upgrade. Typically, my support tickets are turned around immediately. I've always been so happy and now my members consider them part of our team. All I have to do is tell them that I've put in a ticket with support and they begin congratulating me for having such a great team... as if I was personally taking care of it for them. Nice.

So don't worry... the turn-around time will go back to normal once it is over. I'm not worried at all.

After this last round of fixes, I felt that it was time to publicly tell the entire IPB support team, "NICE JOB!"

I just noticed this. It would be stellar if it was similar to the Tracker, where updating the status was a new post and you could comment on the update.

Brett B reacted to Michael in Editing hook settigs requires IN_DEV
Currently, in order to edit a hook to change something like which template it hooks into, you have to turn on IN_DEV mode. This is bad because it puts the whole site into developers mode. We should be able to edit a hook's properties without having to enable IN_DEV.

If something says "there will be no further confirmation dialogs", then that should be enough warning to not delete the topic if you don't want to, well, delete it.

It's the same as with the release of IPB 3.0. You said like crazy there would be bugs. If people ignore the warning, they deserve to live with the bugs until they're patched in a new version.

When you're in a topic and you choose the topic moderation option to delete that topic, you not only get a javascript prompt asking you to confirm this, but upon accepting that you go to a second page where you have to once again confirm you want to delete the topic. Did folks have a problem with the old way, where you only got one confirmation screen? The new way seems like overkill to me.

My users have suggested that the search system have the ability to sort by, or at least display, the rating of the topic or threads returned by the search.
Ditto for the reputation and rating of the users returned in a member search.

Can we add a option to match exact phrase? Its a pain when searching for something to see a bunch of stuff that has one or two words of the phrase even though its not what we were searching for.

Don't make me hunt down my response to your offer to write that saying I would definitely take advantage of it! Yes, I would prefer it be included with IP.Board 3.0 since I visit many Invision sites and it would be nice if they were consistent in this fashion. I don't remember anyone telling you don't bother with it, though! Please, save me the time of doing it myself as you are much better versed in these files than I am (I've only just started looking at them).

We used to have an option on the search page to explain those things like double quotes, + & -, but it seems to be gone now. Maybe restoring that would help folks who aren't aware of this?

That's pretty much what Mark has been saying above (especially with his last post), although not with those exact words.

There are other changes about 3.0 I may not like, but they are not nearly as important or central as the search system and "View New Content" in particular. The whole search system has many problems and in my opinion mars what is an otherwise excellent release. That is why I have been so vocal about it. And this isn't something that just popped up with the release of 3.0.0, it's been discussed repeatedly since last year. IPS has been very slow to move on the issues that have been brought up repeatedly, which says to me they don't find them very important.

I would hope so, but I'm not too encouraged by what I've seen thus far.

Those are really nice things to to say about all your customers who are not happy with these changes. I and others have already explained it has nothing to do with not liking change. And it's not just the issue regarding which posts are shown, but also the drastic changes in the output and information that has been removed.

These threads keep popping up--is Invision really going to bury their collective heads in the sand?

Whatever the majority may have been, they certainly didn't complain about it on these forums near any level compared to what I've seen since IPB3 went final alone. I think taking the one minute to throw up a (yet another) new setting to handle this might be best, to at least quiet both sides =p

Here's a recent post of mine in yet-another-thread complaining about this feature, where I detail my issues with "View New Content":

I've been beating this drum for a while, and on the old preview board there was a long running thread I started about "View New Content". My initial post in that thread was one of the highest voted posts I'd seen on the preview forum. Yet the "majority" of customers found the old "View New Content" confusing and wanted it changed?

Oh come on, the majority. That's nonsense. This change is more about coder ego and has nothing to do with what a majority thinks.

I'm also looking for the return of the original poster. Is that part of the offer too?

As I have said many times before (I was not one who submitted a ticket, btw), the way the view new content is now, is the way it should always have been. Why do I want to see a topic that I have just read in the NEW content page? I don't: Simple. Now, it only shows topics that I have not read, like the name suggests.

I will say though, that perhaps there should be a cut-off point/date/time for the number of results, as, it can get a bit full if you haven't visited for a long time. Maybe add some form of ACP setting to limit the number of days the results display to? Will also reduce server load. ;)
