Hello, I have been using the 30 day trial and I find it excellent, I have been using other platforms for the last few years and I find this one very clean and intuitive.

I have a few questions that will determine whether or not I purchase a classic license. I have written directly to the sales email but have not received a response. Somebody could help me?

My doubts are the following:

1. What exactly do I get with the Classic version? It indicates it on the pricing page but it seems like very little information to me. Do you have detailed specifications indicating limitations?
2. I understand that we are currently running version 4. If I purchase the classic license right now, will I be able to upgrade to version 5 for free or will I have to renew again?
3. Do you plan to launch Courses in the Classic version? For new forums on a budget, it is almost impossible to purchase a $149 per month plan and be able to use the updated courses.
4. If I buy the classic version, do I have to renew my license to update the software whenever I want or do I have any limits?
5. Are Clubs included in the classic license?

Apologies, our sales department is a little backed up at the moment. Looks like someone responded to your initial concerns though.

Classic is all our applications, hosted on your own machine. Classic does not include Courses, our "live" feature items, video encoding, and some other features which are cloud only at this time.

You would need to have an active license but you will gain access to version 5, at this time.

It is Cloud only at this time. There are no plans to change this.

To gain access to software upgrades, support, the spam defense system, GEO IP address, etc... requires an active license.

Yes, that is a Core feature.

Thank you very much, you have clarified all my doubts, when do you plan to release version 5?

There is not a set date for release. However the software is not far away from release. It’s being tested for bugs by some members of the community here. So it will be sooner than later!

Thank you very much for the information.

5. This won't make sense to anyone except IPS people, but IPS considers Clubs to be part of the Core application, which is available for everyone.  Core also includes Status Updates, Messenger, Community Hive, and other foundational features.

1. You're getting all of the applications, except for Courses.

You also won't have access to cloud-specific features like Live Topics, Community Experts, etc.  But the basic applications themselves, such as forums and galleries and blogs, will be fine.

For people who are new to the IPS ecosystem, the app that I would point you to is the Pages app, which is the most complex but also the most powerful.

I think I explained myself wrong, I was referring to how much time do I have available to receive updates after purchasing the classic license? 1 yeard 2 years?

Per the self-hosted page, each renewal extends your current license by 1 year. Could contain: Text, Logo

So your initial purchase is $499 today.  During that year, you have access to any updates that are made. IPS generally does monthly releases that fixes bugs and adds new features. One year from now, your renewal cost would be $199 and include additional updates, support, etc for another year.

Sorry, I didn't realize 😁.

Last question, if at the end of the year I decided not to renew and then wanted to renew after 2 or 3 years, could I do it just by paying the $199? Or would there be some kind of sanction?

If the pricing is the same after that 2 or 3-year period, then yes. You will get access to updates and support for the 12-month period from the date you made the payment.

You will not have to pay for renewals for the years you have missed to then get that access again.

Hello! Here I am again with some questions that are delaying a project I plan to start.

As I mentioned before, I come from another platform, Xenforo. I have been exploring Invision Power Suite (IPS) and decided to test it extensively to see if it would fit my needs. To my surprise, it not only met, but exceeded my expectations.

Now, I find myself at a crossroads. I'm not sure if I should buy the classic IPS license now or wait for the next version, version 5. What do you advise me?

A. If I buy my license now (IPS 4)
1. I plan to hire a developer to create some custom applications, however, with the upcoming release of version 5 I am not sure if they will continue to work and if I will have to pay the developer again to update them.
2. In my project I plan to use question and answer forums a lot, however, I have read somewhere that they will disappear, I don't know how this would affect my project or how they would actually work.

B. If I wait to buy my license (IPS 5)
1. Could the price of $499 increase?
2. Is a self-hosted downloadable version 5 too far away? I have read that the alpha phase has not yet started and it is expected that the beta versions will be cloud-only.

The applications system is getting an overhaul so yes, they will need to re-do anything for version 4.

Question & Answer forum types are going away but the ability to mark a post as a "Solution" is not. So it just depends on what you see as impactful to your project. We use the "Solution" in our Technical Support forum if you want to see what that looks like.

I can only state that we do not have any current plans to do so. Anything in the future, of course, is subject to change so I would continue to keep an eye on things if you do not continue to purchase right away.

We do not have a timeline at this time. However, beta testing will not be Cloud only. It will be Cloud first while the team finishes the build functionality to make it available for self-hosted.
