can't sign in to the new Marketplace to update my plugins?

I did just upgrade my overall board from the last version to 4.7.11.  So now my plugins say "update available!" but even though I am signed in with my invision account (witness my ability to place this post, I think?), it gives me this error (below).  And my community is up to date in terms of payment, checked on that too. I've tried logging in and out and rebooting my browser, etc., not working.  Can you tell me how to make my marketplace login/update thing work, please?   🙂

There was an error authenticating with the Marketplace. Please try again later or contact technical support for assistance.

Our Marketplace server received an unexpected response from your community. Please ensure your community is up to date and web accessible (localhost installations are not supported) and contact technical support if the issue persists. (server_error)

Also ensure you have no other blocks on your site calling out, or calls in to

index.php?app=core&module=marketplace&controller=onboard

Hi everyone, thanks a lot for the replies.

However, I'm even more confused now because I do not know how to check my TLS version or what that is.  I did a search in the admin panel and didn't see anything, plus another here on this forum but that was a whole lot but the first several pages didn't seem to match then I thought the rest might be outdated so.

I also don't know how to determine if I have blocks calling this: index.php?app=core&module=marketplace&controller=onboard or if something on my server is blocking requests?

I mean, I guess on some level we already know something is blocking or this would work?  But I don't think I put that there intentionally.

Meanwhile, I was blissfully able to use the automatic updater thing the last couple of updates . . . actually just sailed on through that without errors (so exciting!) and not only do I not know what could be blocking it specifically I don't think anyone's done anything at all to the site since the last update soooo . . . extra mystifying?

(I'm still clueless, would love more help.  Thanks.  🙂. )

Edited to add: in case this is at all interesting, always able to update my theme too, but I downloaded that from the ipsfocus site directly?  That didn't break too.

And again, this is getting more complicated, ACK!  I did NOT do the very last update which just came out, the 4.7.11.1 . . . I did this other first and didn't notice the very very latest until just now.  Should I try to install that or fix this first?  Does installing your very latest fix this other problem at all?

These would be server things so if you do not have access or unsure, you would need to contact your hosting provider.

So just because I wanted to see and make sure, I did just now download and install the additional just released IPB update, that went just fine too as far as I know thus far.  At least it totally went through the whole process of downloading, asking me for permission for access then rumbling around for a minute or so, then processing while telling me all about that too and it's weird that would all still work if I have something blocked?

Also, if the regular(?) IPB updates are separate from Marketplace and I have something blocked just for Marketplace but not regular(?) IPB . . . I still don't think it's MERELY that because I don't think I got all the way there.  When I'm fully logged into my Admin panel it still says "sign in to Marketplace" when I click the basket/Marketplace icon.

I don't think I'm getting TO any downloading and installing phase with Marketplace because some aspect of Marketplace keeps rejecting my login?

When I click that button, next screen button = "continue as raincat."  The next is a popup error as previously quoted.  It's pretty instantaneous, nothing gets downloaded or processed, I'm just REJECTED.

(Weirdly though, if I approach you not via my site's admin panel but via invisioncommunity.com, click "Client Area," then the Marketplace menu in the bar up top, I'm in there.  I'm in here right now clicking on my previous orders, I'm seeing them displayed and all.  But when I click on Account Credit, it says Account Balance = $0.)

(Does that mean I don't have enough lives left to do this upgrade or something?)

. . .

ALSO, I wasn't sure if we were still talking about this bit, but I went back and clicked on the links in terabyte's reply up there and while that's still exactly the error I get when I attempt to sign in to your Marketplace via my site admin panel, the initial answer from the hosting provider is:

"What SSL/TLS protocols are supported on different SiteGround servers?

On all shared servers the following SSL/TLS protocols are supported for web access:

TLS v1.2
TLS v1.3
SSL v2 and v3 are not supported and TLS 1.0 and TLS v1.1 are disabled by default."

(Isn't that the right answer?  No really I don't know, but sounds like to me?)

. . .

And . . . just to make super duper sure, I didn't know with regard to those URLs from Marc Stridgen and Stuart Silvester . . . I tried loading them various ways and had various strange things happen . . . does it matter that my board isn't at site.com but at site.com/board/ . . .?

And finally, I did turn the board offline for this . . . but that's what we're supposed to do, right?  That's not a thing?  Probably not, but sheesh, if that were actually why this wasn't working . . . ?

Im not sure what we can really add here unfortunately. We are getting 403 when sending requests to your server, so it will not work. You mention logging in, but this also needs to be able to connect back and forth from that location.

All "locations" are here at my desk in my house, presently, and this whole time.  For all downloads concerning this issue, this software, this site.  Same internet connection, same computer, same everything.

When you say "WE" are getting 403 when sending requests, what does that mean, exactly?  Is there a previously spammy IP address from another country my web hosting finds suspicious now that needs special approving or some special permission or function Marketplace is requesting above and beyond what "regular" IPB is accessing to update the "regular" software?

I dunno what else it would be, just that there truly seems to be something else.

There's something different from downloading and installing the "regular" IPB vs. Marketplace, via my site's admin panel.  But I don't imagine I'll figure this out on my own, I imagine you have to tell me.

I guess if you can't figure out what it is . . . I just won't be able to participate in "Marketplace."

I'll just have to purchase and install whatever modifications I might ever want just I did my theme from ipsfocus.  Meaning, that was available from that software provider in a way I could download and install AROUND and APART from Marketplace, because you apparently don't currently want me going THROUGH it.

Which is what was always the case before, right?

So really, the whole deal is just that your new software feature, "Marketplace," doesn't work with my hosting provider, at least not right NOW, but you don't know why.

Hosting doesn't don't know why either, except for the thing about some previously suspicious (at least, according to THEIR software) IP addresses are now blocked but I'd have to ask you to find out.

Since I'm not a hosting provider or a developer . . . I'm now just someone who's going to assume she can't use "Marketplace" with her site unless and until you fix the glitch . . . or at least could tell me what setting needs to change so it'll stop glitching?

It's unlikely and unreasonable to assume I'll figure it out on my own, and my hosting provider already passed that proverbial buck right on back to you.  I'm in the middle, and I've already asked all the reasonable questions I know how to ask.  Hosting provider remains Siteground, if whoever's reading now is new and doesn't scroll up, thanks!

Sorry to hear of your frustration here, however we do know why. Our server interacts with the location mentioned above, for purposes of login and verification

/index.php?app=core&module=system&controller=marketplace

Your server is reporting 403, which is access denied. We are unable to determine the reason why your server is returning that message, as unfortunately we are not your hosting company.

And . . . the buck is passed back to hosting.  Well, it already was, really, as I have no more intelligent questions to ask them.

I'm just going to turn my board back on, and conclude for both sanity and time management related reasons that this is best for everyone right NOW since as far as I can tell, Marketplace is the only thing that doesn't work.  Well hopefully, but I'm not going to know until I turn the board back on for a bit SO.

I have only a couple of modifications that still seem to work right now anyway.  I've decided near zero modification is best especially if you can avoid asking for tech support or apparently going through Marketplace, so I'm going to go with that for now.

I'm also going to assume you don't have many Siteground customers . . . but if you do have one who has a similar personality and set of life experiences hopefully he will be along shortly to explain this problem to you in a way that I'm just not able to continue attempting today.

But thanks for replying anyway, everyone, peace out.  🙂
