  1. And . . . the buck is passed back to hosting. Well, it already was, really, as I have no more intelligent questions to ask them. I'm just going to turn my board back on, and conclude for both sanity and time management related reasons that this is best for everyone right NOW since as far as I can tell, Marketplace is the only thing that doesn't work. Well hopefully, but I'm not going to know until I turn the board back on for a bit SO. I have only a couple of modifications that still seem to work right now anyway. I've decided near zero modification is best especially if you can avoid asking for tech support or apparently going through Marketplace, so I'm going to go with that for now. I'm also going to assume you don't have many Siteground customers . . . but if you do have one who has a similar personality and set of life experiences hopefully he will be along shortly to explain this problem to you in a way that I'm just not able to continue attempting today. But thanks for replying anyway, everyone, peace out. 🙂
  2. All "locations" are here at my desk in my house, presently, and this whole time. For all downloads concerning this issue, this software, this site. Same internet connection, same computer, same everything. When you say "WE" are getting 403 when sending requests, what does that mean, exactly? Is there a previously spammy IP address from another country my web hosting finds suspicious now that needs special approving or some special permission or function Marketplace is requesting above and beyond what "regular" IPB is accessing to update the "regular" software? I dunno what else it would be, just that there truly seems to be something else. There's something different from downloading and installing the "regular" IPB vs. Marketplace, via my site's admin panel. But I don't imagine I'll figure this out on my own, I imagine you have to tell me. I guess if you can't figure out what it is . . . I just won't be able to participate in "Marketplace." I'll just have to purchase and install whatever modifications I might ever want just I did my theme from ipsfocus. Meaning, that was available from that software provider in a way I could download and install AROUND and APART from Marketplace, because you apparently don't currently want me going THROUGH it. Which is what was always the case before, right? So really, the whole deal is just that your new software feature, "Marketplace," doesn't work with my hosting provider, at least not right NOW, but you don't know why. Hosting doesn't don't know why either, except for the thing about some previously suspicious (at least, according to THEIR software) IP addresses are now blocked but I'd have to ask you to find out. Since I'm not a hosting provider or a developer . . . I'm now just someone who's going to assume she can't use "Marketplace" with her site unless and until you fix the glitch . . . or at least could tell me what setting needs to change so it'll stop glitching? It's unlikely and unreasonable to assume I'll figure it out on my own, and my hosting provider already passed that proverbial buck right on back to you. I'm in the middle, and I've already asked all the reasonable questions I know how to ask. Hosting provider remains Siteground, if whoever's reading now is new and doesn't scroll up, thanks!
  3. So just because I wanted to see and make sure, I did just now download and install the additional just released IPB update, that went just fine too as far as I know thus far. At least it totally went through the whole process of downloading, asking me for permission for access then rumbling around for a minute or so, then processing while telling me all about that too and it's weird that would all still work if I have something blocked? Also, if the regular(?) IPB updates are separate from Marketplace and I have something blocked just for Marketplace but not regular(?) IPB . . . I still don't think it's MERELY that because I don't think I got all the way there. When I'm fully logged into my Admin panel it still says "sign in to Marketplace" when I click the basket/Marketplace icon. I don't think I'm getting TO any downloading and installing phase with Marketplace because some aspect of Marketplace keeps rejecting my login? When I click that button, next screen button = "continue as raincat." The next is a popup error as previously quoted. It's pretty instantaneous, nothing gets downloaded or processed, I'm just REJECTED. (Weirdly though, if I approach you not via my site's admin panel but via invisioncommunity.com, click "Client Area," then the Marketplace menu in the bar up top, I'm in there. I'm in here right now clicking on my previous orders, I'm seeing them displayed and all. But when I click on Account Credit, it says Account Balance = $0.) (Does that mean I don't have enough lives left to do this upgrade or something?) . . . ALSO, I wasn't sure if we were still talking about this bit, but I went back and clicked on the links in terabyte's reply up there and while that's still exactly the error I get when I attempt to sign in to your Marketplace via my site admin panel, the initial answer from the hosting provider is: "What SSL/TLS protocols are supported on different SiteGround servers? On all shared servers the following SSL/TLS protocols are supported for web access: TLS v1.2 TLS v1.3 SSL v2 and v3 are not supported and TLS 1.0 and TLS v1.1 are disabled by default." (Isn't that the right answer? No really I don't know, but sounds like to me?) . . . And . . . just to make super duper sure, I didn't know with regard to those URLs from Marc Stridgen and Stuart Silvester . . . I tried loading them various ways and had various strange things happen . . . does it matter that my board isn't at site.com but at site.com/board/ . . .? And finally, I did turn the board offline for this . . . but that's what we're supposed to do, right? That's not a thing? Probably not, but sheesh, if that were actually why this wasn't working . . . ?
  4. Hi everyone, thanks a lot for the replies. However, I'm even more confused now because I do not know how to check my TLS version or what that is. I did a search in the admin panel and didn't see anything, plus another here on this forum but that was a whole lot but the first several pages didn't seem to match then I thought the rest might be outdated so. I also don't know how to determine if I have blocks calling this: index.php?app=core&module=marketplace&controller=onboard or if something on my server is blocking requests? I mean, I guess on some level we already know something is blocking or this would work? But I don't think I put that there intentionally. Meanwhile, I was blissfully able to use the automatic updater thing the last couple of updates . . . actually just sailed on through that without errors (so exciting!) and not only do I not know what could be blocking it specifically I don't think anyone's done anything at all to the site since the last update soooo . . . extra mystifying? (I'm still clueless, would love more help. Thanks. 🙂. ) Edited to add: in case this is at all interesting, always able to update my theme too, but I downloaded that from the ipsfocus site directly? That didn't break too. And again, this is getting more complicated, ACK! I did NOT do the very last update which just came out, the 4.7.11.1 . . . I did this other first and didn't notice the very very latest until just now. Should I try to install that or fix this first? Does installing your very latest fix this other problem at all?
  5. I did just upgrade my overall board from the last version to 4.7.11. So now my plugins say "update available!" but even though I am signed in with my invision account (witness my ability to place this post, I think?), it gives me this error (below). And my community is up to date in terms of payment, checked on that too. I've tried logging in and out and rebooting my browser, etc., not working. Can you tell me how to make my marketplace login/update thing work, please? 🙂 There was an error authenticating with the Marketplace. Please try again later or contact technical support for assistance. Our Marketplace server received an unexpected response from your community. Please ensure your community is up to date and web accessible (localhost installations are not supported) and contact technical support if the issue persists. (server_error)
  6. And . . . I almost feel like this is a jinx, this was too easy but . . . so far so good? Updated the theme too, even? . . . (yay?)
  7. OK then looking like all plugins are uninstalled and far as I can tell right now, the forum is none the worse for wear. Yeehaw. Should I do auto update of forum software and also the theme now? 🙂 Er or . . . is there a good reason that applies to most I would not want to do that?
  8. OK, so I click on the Notifications bell because it has messages for me. The first one says "an error has been logged." I click on it, I get this, but you can't actually read the whole URL even if I expand the window: So then I click on the "Error URL" listed there to see what it is, I get this:
  9. So hey again, sorry for the delay in posting back . . . if anyone's even noticing that. Life happened for long minute there and I couldn't get back to this, but in the meantime, the forum was successfully upgraded. At least we think, at least in terms of function. It seems mostly so. :) To 4.7.7? However, the only way it seems less so is there are still some errors generating under the Notifications, it's a marketplace module with an error URL? And yes, these are errors since the upgrade, not just from before. But when I click on it, it says "this file is not compatible with this version of Invision Community." ?? So I'm not actually sure what's generating it. I'm wondering if it's the 3 disabled plugins I still have listed. There are 3 disabled plugins in there we weren't planning on using for anything right now, but didn't uninstall because we thought either we might decide to use them via updating them in the future OR that uninstalling might crash something. Either way, just left them there, but still disabled. Should we hit that uninstall button now? Would that likely fix this issue with the error URL, or is that something else? . . . and then if I could ask another question? Does this mean I can and should or . . . should not do the dashboard updating now? If it's really going to be that easy if I keep up with it AND there's only the one (previously had two) forums now, can we actually manage to keep it updated like that? :) Or is that not a great idea for some reason? Thanks!
  10. Hey thanks . . . I'm looking around now, figuring things out. One possibly concerning thing about possible crashes, if I click on the support tab in the admin panel, it says I have one critical issue and 4 recommendations? Is that bad? I'm just so afraid it might be, eek.
  11. So thanks, I just cleared the site caches with the webhost, I am able to load the forum again, but now I'm anxious. 🙂 If I want to get some third party things going again, particularly some that have an update, would it be better just to download that new update right away rather than trying to turn my third party things back on to see if they work? Just like assume they don't? I'm trying not to crash the board again, but confused about what happened here and if there's a lesson I need to learn other than . . . clear caches after any site changes, I guess? At least with this webhost? Thanks!
  12. OK, I see that too now, if this is the normal end of my board URL: /board/ now this actually works? /board/?test This is my first experience with . . . whatever this is, really hard core caching, because I promise I really was hitting the refresh button, for real. And the first URL still isn't working for me either, in browsers I've not used in quite some time. So just contact my webhost and say what would you recommend, if you'd care to add? Just explain this situation or . . . is there some other name for this? Thanks so far (not jinxing this by assuming I'm done yet, I might have to come back and complain again gee I sure hope not. 🙂. )
  13. I finished doing that just now. 🙂 My email address on file under "account settings" is good too?
  14. OH. I'm sorry, somehow I totally missed this part! I did wonder why the number didn't change, but I thought maybe since it was like an official entry there it just got updated or something. But um, I think I'm still not getting something because I did click "create new" then added a theme in Easy Mode. It says it's the default now too, with a green button, and a green check and "invision" instead of "customized." But unfortunately, still same error when loading the board? Again unfortunately, I did NOT do this in advance. I misunderstood the instructions as me needing to switch to the OLD IPS default skin before updating, not create this new one first? Is that why it messed up?
  15. So when you say it's an issue with my theme, I WAS using a theme previously, but I thought as per the instructions above I'd totally switched to the IPS 4.4 Default? I did that in the order of the instructions, and I just checked on it again and it's still checked? Also for those brief moments it was loading it was blue and white. My other theme was dark, so definitely different? What did I do wrong? How do I fix, sob! p.s. edited to add, I never even tried to switch back to the previous theme, was just trying to basically load then hoping for some third party plugins thus far, that's what seemed to have crashed it.
  16. I spoke too soon, but I swear, it was totally loading there for a few minutes. All I did was log in to the admin panel, then try to turn back on one of my third party plugins. I then loaded the site to see, and got the following error. Fatal error: Unparenthesized `a ? b : c ? d : e` is not supported. Use either `(a ? b : c) ? d : e` or `a ? b : (c ? d : e)` in /home/customer/public_html/board/system/Theme/Theme.php(885) : eval()'d code on line 5011 I'm still in my admin panel, that still works, but even though I re-disabled the third party plugins, I'm still getting the error when I try to load the actual board. OMG. Somehow I broke it but I swear I was still following the instructions?
  17. Hi again, I stopped updating every detail because I'd nattered on long enough without a reply (grin), but in the meantime I've determined that at least with my webhost and/or anything else that might be relevant with my situation (though I've no idea what) it only works in PHP 8.1.16, not the earlier 8.0.28? I don't know why, since the ips4.php file worked in both, but then when I tried to run the updater, it only worked when I had the web hosting control panel for the later PHP? I just switched it back on a whim, just to make sure I'd checked and rechecked all details and lo and behold, it updated in the later one when it loaded nothing but errors in the previous? So I'm checking the board out now, I can't say everything is intact yet but the index page loads. 🙂
  18. I've been trying harder and harder but things might be going from bad to worse. 😞 I reuploaded all the files all over again just to make sure my FTP program didn't miss one somehow, and about as certain as I can be it did not. Now I don't get the error above, but just: Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function IPS\get_magic_quotes_gpc() . . . and ending in: board/system/Request/Request.php on line 117 There's stuff in between but that might be enough since the forum said not to paste in everything during an upgrade. This doesn't take many minutes to like . . . settle in or something like the PHP thing, right? And as long as it's one of the PHPs past 8 it's fine? I'm assuming I should stop messing with that since the ips4.php page still works? I can't get to step 6 above to follow the prompts to do the upgrade. Just that error up there. 😞
  19. So webhost is still 8.0.28, ips4.php page still loads, I THINK I uploaded everything correctly as I was very careful, but when I load the admin/upgrade page, I get this error: An error occurred (500 error) We're sorry, but a temporary technical error has occurred which means we cannot display this site right now. You can try again by clicking the button below, or try again later. (the try again button yielded same) What's my next step? 😳
  20. Sorry for the multiple posts/general confusion, but after talking to the webhost again and having been assured the PHP was fully working now, I think that error means I'm supposed to go ahead and attempt to install the upgrade and perhaps it'll work then? Since I have a backup anyway? But if anyone wants to scream HALT! in the next few minutes, go right ahead . . ack. 😬
  21. (please see my very last post so this makes sense) Maybe I sent that last one before the PHP propagation was complete or something, because I didn't change anything else on my end since my last post BUT NOW under MySQL requirements it says: MySQL connection could not be established to perform version check. Make sure your MySQL Server version is 5.5.3 or above (5.6.2 or above recommended). Do I need to do something about that too before uploading upgrade files? The forum still loads with an error though, so it seems problematic.
  22. Thanks again for your feedback, but afraid I've hit an anxiety-producing snag. I upgraded the PHP with my webhost (actually I tried 8.1.16 first, then 8.0.28, same exact problem for both), and the ips4.php file loaded in my browser now reports green checks next to all the PHP requirements, but under MySQL requirements it has a longer string of stuff . . . . . . but I think the main deal is up top (not sure if I should copy the rest into this forum either?): Fatal error: Uncaught mysqli_sql_exception: Access denied for user ''@'localhost' the forum now loads with error: Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function IPS instead of the forum offline message, which did display before the php change. What should I do now? 😬 I'm guessing I'm supposed to fix this before I start uploading the upgrade files?
  23. Hey Ramsesx, Jim M, and Gary, thanks a lot for the input! 🙂 I realized I needed to do a lot of backing up first prior to running the upgrade script, going to do that soon, but in the meantime I've successfully downloaded my upgrade files and am now looking at my webhosting situation with the PHP version. Yes, my version is is definitely what IPB said it was, that being < 8. So moving onward though I have the choice of 8.0.28, 8.1.16, or 8.2.3 (again, with the webhost)? We don't have much else installed on the site outside the range of simpler html pages, the IPB is definitely the most complicated 3rd party thing, so could someone tell us which one is best? 🙂
  24. We're long paying customers that ask for help once every few years, so hopefully you'll help this time. Apparently we absolutely must upgrade our forum to the current version now. We also need to upgrade from PHP 7.4 to whatever's necessary. We know, that's a webhost thing, but we don't know the order of events here in terms of the IPB bit? In case this isn't already on here, the forum is 4.4.9.2. We cancelled one long-running package with you but still want to update the one that's still scheduled for rebill. Can you please help us determine the necessary steps? If there's a guide in the Help area for exactly this we didn't find it, perhaps it's too specific we're not sure, thank you very much.
  25. I did get the more recent emails. Again, as I said, I did already repair the table myself using other info I found online. No longer crashed. So the substance of my remaining question was still: 1) determining WHY this happened 2) what to do to prevent it from happening AGAIN So you're saying I need to switch to this other thing then? What's involved in that? Just telling my hosting provider, or is there something about making this switch that's actually more complicated than that? AND what else is going to crash and break instead when I do this? (Because my experience is that it WILL very likely be something not already mentioned.)
