Is there a way to put a notice on the top of the page like "Labor Day Weekend 25% Off All Stock" are some other message on the top of the Nexus|Commerce area only and not other pages? 

You could do a simple hook a bit like this one I did for the signup page but just target commerce instead.

Which pages did you want it to appear on? All of the shop front screens or just the main featured packages page?

All Nexus product and front screens pages. Just something small colored/highlighted in red on top saying you must signin to make an order.

One option would be to create a custom block with the information you want, then select which groups can see that information block. Basically the same principal as the guest/welcome box here at IPB but with a different message.

That would work, I just need a message saying before you buy something you have to have an account. Do you have something similar to that still?

I have something 90% done, but the problem is that at the moment I can't find any way to hook onto the main Store page.  The individual category and product pages are fine, but the main Store page doesn't have any good hook points at all.

Do you mean the top main store page that listing everything? Are the main page of each area? Mmmm...

Yes. Editing the template is fine, but trying to hook to it is foxing me at the moment.
