Is there a way to remove the calendar menu item from the nav bar? We don't need it as a menu item and it'd be great to be able to hide the menu item or even rename it to "events" or something similar.

u can do it by the translation Apps

Another approach that I've used is to simply disable all applications from appearing in the nav bar, then in the Menu Manager re-add URL links to each application with your own custom title.  

Or before I knew about disabling menus in the Application section I looked for the CSS ID, class or added a custom ID or class and used "display:none".
