Posted November 23, 200816 yr Hi, I need some help optimalize my forum I think, its running slow when creating new topics and posts. I have a pretty fast server: CPU: Quad Core 2.13 ghz RAM: 2048mb When I look at system usage, its not so high either. I tried to optimize my posts table, who is now 1gb large. I have 500-1000 post each day. Anyone have other tips to optimize for better performance?
November 23, 200816 yr you need to optimize your mysql using the my.cnf file. Get this done right and it will be a lot faster assign more memory to mysql really helps
March 2, 200915 yr Author Where do I find my.cnf file? Also, first post was wrong this is the stats of my server: Dual core 1,86 and 1024 mb ram. My database is 1gb ++
March 2, 200915 yr If you're running Linux, I suggest that you install mysqltuner. http://wiki.mysqltuner.com/MySQLTuner A sure sign that MySQL needs tuning is when your system CPU usage is low, but disk I/O is high.
March 2, 200915 yr Author I have a managed server so I cannot install my own programs. Would it help alot if I got 6000 gb memory ?
March 2, 200915 yr If it's managed, does that mean other people are using it, so you may not be the cause of the problem? And if it's managed, the managers need to be managing this problem, not you!
May 6, 200915 yr Managed means you can ask them to do anything -- including install stuff -- from their support for free. Unmanaged is just rebooting and technical stuff like that.
May 6, 200915 yr 2GB of ram should be enough, but if is not too expensive you can add 4GB. You could provide as with your url so we can see if is slow for us too.
May 7, 200915 yr If your forum is the link in your signature, it seems significantly faster than most IP.Board forums I visit..
