Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
PolakTom101 Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Does IPS call you asking you to confirm your account number, login details and your credit card because I got call from someone that said they were from Invision Power Services. The weired thing is that my account here is in good standing order. My liscence isn't up for renewal until August and I got no debts on the account?Anyone know?
Luke Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 To be on the safe side call 1-800-901-5491 and verify :)I don't know why they would ask you about login details, unless it had to do with a support ticket...
Guest Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 It strikes me as very very odd. I'd imagine that they wouldn't request any of that information on an unsolicited phone call.Like Luke said, give them a call. :)
Rikki Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I don't know if we called you on this occasion, but if you're ever unsure it's IPS on the other end, you're always welcome to phone us back on the number on our website to be sure :)
Management Charles Posted May 8, 2007 Management Posted May 8, 2007 Every now and then we do call for new customers, larger orders, or something that is out of the ordinary but it is not a common thing. If you want to email me with information I can verify it for you.
UBERHOST.NET Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Clearly, Lindy was hammered and just wanted someone to talk to.
PolakTom101 Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Here is the weired part they called my Cell Phone but my House Phone is the number on the IPS Account.EDIT: Also I just put in a ticket
.Ryan Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I would say you leaked your information to someone or someone is playing a prank on you. Hopefully your smart enough not to give out private info or anything like that, and btw you should send them the number or do a search on www.whitepages.com and use a Reverse Phone Search and figure out who it is.Here is a direct link... mystery over :P http://www.whitepages.com/9901/reverse_phone
Debbie Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 If you receive a call from "Invision Power Services" and you're not 100% sure that the call is legitimate, ask for the persons full name and advise that you will call the number on the website (http://www.invisionpower.com/ip.dynamic/co...te/contact.html). When you call back, ask for the person you were speaking with and they will be able to confirm if they actually called you.If in doubt, don't give it out! :)We can't be held responsible for any information that you provide over the telephone that is not given to a trusted member of staff.
PKIDelirium Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 The phone number they called, was that by any chance the number on your domain's WHOIS registration?Someone might have seen the IPS copyright footer on your site and looked up your phone # on WHOIS to try to scam/phish.
Stuart Elliott Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 The phone number they called, was that by any chance the number on your domain's WHOIS registration?Someone might have seen the IPS copyright footer on your site and looked up your phone # on WHOIS to try to scam/phish.Oh I like that, I must tr, erm I mean how sneaky, the scoundrels..
PolakTom101 Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Problem I can't use the Reserve Lookup it tells me on my Cell Phone it shows Private Number on the phone who called. The only place I gave my cell to was Yahoo! and when I registered a domain a long time ago and and when I cancled they sold my information.I got Privacy Block on all my domains.
Brandon C Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Hopefully you didn't give out your sensitive information that the person on the other end of the line requested, as it doesn't sound like it was IPS from what information is stated here.
Management Lindy Posted May 9, 2007 Management Posted May 9, 2007 Clearly, Lindy was hammered and just wanted someone to talk to.I do get lonely on occasion. :(In all seriousness though, as Charles said, we do occasionally call to verify an order, but we generally require a faxed copy of a driver's license to match to the credit card on suspicious orders. We may ask you to verify the last 4 digits of your card number, but we would never need to ask for account usernames/passwords, etc. Never give such information out. :)
Luke Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Problem I can't use the Reserve Lookup it tells me on my Cell Phone it shows Private Number on the phone who called. The only place I gave my cell to was Yahoo! and when I registered a domain a long time ago and and when I cancled they sold my information.I got Privacy Block on all my domains.I'm almost certain that clinches it right there. Businesses typically do not block the number from caller ID... It just wouldn't be good business. And as far as I know, IPS does not have their number blocked. The only way it possibly could be blocked is if a staff member called from home. Typically 99.9% of the time this doesn't happen that I'm aware of. There are some staff members located in UK, but do you really believe Debbie, Matt, or Stewart would be calling you from UK? Or would Rikki or Jason (one of them) be calling you, being in either development/technical support (some of them I believe work remotely)?Besides Debbie, I believe the billing department works in the office, and there would be absolutely no reason for them to call you elsewhere. The only time I can see anyone that's working remotely calling a customer is if they had opened a ticket and had a re-occurring problem and demanded to have someone call them, even when the office is officially closed. That's the only scenario I can possibly think of, and in that scenario the customer is already expecting a call.So in the end, I don't think the call came from IPS :)

That's the only scenario I can possibly think of, and in that scenario the customer is already expecting a call.I didn't have anyone call me anyway plus last time I opened a ticket up was about 2 months ago. Well anyway this happened around 2 PM EST so if IPS would have called me it would be from the office anyway. So, did you give out your information? No. :) I was in the middle of class and I told them I would call them back.
Management Charles Posted May 11, 2007 Management Posted May 11, 2007 Our outgoing caller ID is not blocked. It should show up as our company name and primary phone number.
Axel Wers Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 login detailsNOBODY can ask for your password. Your password is only your personal thing. If you receive a call from "Invision Power Services"Everybody can call me, but he doesn't find out anything, because my english is not good and I don't understand speaking  :P

Sometimes you can't see a problem through WHM only through the cPanel part.
