Custom profile fields: Registration page requirement
by Guest Logan- 6 replies
- 2.3k views
When you have a custom profile field that is set as required, on the registration page if someone doesn't leave it blank and submits registration this error is given at the top: Well, if you have a load of custom profile fields like I do (well 5) with only 1 being required then they are just going to fill in everything not knowing which one they don't have to fill in which will make it more of a hassle. Therefore when the form is submitted the custom profile field that is required the field should be highlighted red. Or even better, right on the form itself somehow visually mark the required fields with some sort of image or something, maybe an exclamation mark …

ibf_ => ipb_, and an admin.php suggestion
by Guest ellawella- 10 replies
- 6.1k views
First suggestion: Table prefixes :P IBF is surely long deprecated, isn't it? Short for IBforums. Wouldn't the database tables make a whole lot more sense if they were prefixed ipb_ instead? Second suggestion: admin.php says "No administration session found" when you first access it with no session and not having logged in. Well duh! What are we supposed to do about that? It should only give that error if you actually provide some $_GET variables, not if you've just accessed the file normally. Actually, a bonus suggestion, can we have the username auto-focus on the admin CP back like it was in 2.0.x? :)

Personal Messenger Improvements
by Guest rct2·com- 11 replies
- 3.2k views
I would like to be able to state in AdminCP which groups are allowed to disable their Personal Messenger, and/or have a global setting that says whether it is allowed. Additionally, I would like to be able to specify that certain groups cannot be filtered out from the PM system. Example: we use the PM system to politely privately ask members to refrain from certain things. Some have started either disabling the PM system completely, or blocking our Moderators from sending them PMs. That doesn't seem right.

RTE feature - Hyperlink "unlink"
by Guest Logan- 24 replies
- 7.4k views
The ability to highlight a link/image and click the unlink button is needed. It saves time from having to delete text, then re-enter, and hyperlink it again. With an unlink button you could highlight it, "unlink" (removes hyperlink), then just re-hyperlink without removing the text. Same with an image, rather than deleting a hyperlinked image to remove a hyperlink, just "unlink" ;) This is a default feature in most other rich text editors, should be standard in IPB's as well. Not to mention the subscript and superscript that is still missing :P

Anti-spambot security suggestion and couple of other things
by Guest Gwarsbane- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
As of late the forums I help admin at has been getting at least 5 to 8 spambots a week, on mondays we're usually hit with 3 or 4 of them. I'm not quite sure how the php back end works with the database so this is something that might work to help keep out the bots, would be to randomize the number thats given to each section thats gets created. Give it a say 10 number and letter reference code. So instead of the very first section being "index.php?showforum=1" it would be something like "index.php?showforum=4B7wJ2jaiJ" The bots goto certain numbers to post in them. If they can't find the certain numbers then they can't post. I don't think they would be able to c…

Auto-log pruner
by Guest Logan- 1 reply
- 1.5k views
There should be a configurable task (via a setting would be better) to prune the unimportant logs, like task logs, and spider logs for example, although maybe a setting for all the other logs would be best just to give the option (make the entire thing disabled by default though). Mainly because the spider and task logs tables get VERY big if you forget to prune them, and for those who don't prune them well usually half of their database size is just logs.

Reporting System
by Guest TestingSomething- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
It would be VERY nice if when someone reports a post, it sends along some copy of the post or stores it somewhere. That way people can't then simply edit their post out where when staff looks at it, they see nothing wrong. I was hoping Cy would add that type of feature to his mod center. I guess I will suggest it to him again.

A 'better' Components tutorial would be great
by Guest rct2·com- 3 replies
- 2.4k views
The components tutorial at http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showtopic=191352 is very useful, but a little more information in it (or in the 'hello' files that ship with the product), would make it much easier for people to understand how to write fully integrated components. This in turn has the potential for adding value to the product much more quickly as component writers' learning curves would be significantly reduced. In particular, it could be improved if: components_public/hello.php produced output that was 'wrapped' with all the standard board headers and footers, instead of just a blank page components_public/hello.php used a custom skin piece so that …

Manage Bulk Mail -> Multi-delete
by Guest Logan- 0 replies
- 1.8k views
Would be great if you could delete multiple emails at a time, just have checkboxes along the left side then a "delete selected" at the bottom would be sufficient, also a checkbox at the very top and when clicking it checks ALL emails. I've about 25 old bulk emails, and I don't want to waste the time deleting each one by one :P

Subscriptions and Bandwidth
by Guest elderban- 1 reply
- 1.9k views
Something I thought up today that would be nice would be a way to set up bandwidth limits for non-subscribers and no limits for subscribers. I go through about 300 GB of traffic each month, and it would be nice to be able to control how much a non-subscriber can use, and possibly ask them to become a subscriber after they have used X amount of bandwidth that month. This could be done for all IPS products...

Defining a "Hot Topic"
by Guest McQ- 5 replies
- 2.7k views
I find that a simple number trigger to define a "hot topic" is a little misleading. For example, if your trigger is 20 replies and you get your 20th post 45 days after the thread is created, then that SLOW topic suddenly becomes hot. A more accurate way to identify hot topics would include admin-defined posts per recent-time-period parameters. For example, an admin might say that a hot topic has >=10 replies during the past 24 hours. This way, the hot topic indicator would alternate from hot to cold depending on a defined level of recent activity, instead of forever staying hot once the number of replies reaches a set number. McQ

Alt-Text Option for Smilie Mouse-Overs
by Guest McQ- 4 replies
- 2.5k views
Smilies are traditionally used by MANY people to graphically replace text. So ideally when a user does a mouse-over of the smilie, the text it replaces should appear instead of the file name. So a mouse over of  would produce devil (or whatever the admin specified) instead of "devil.gif". McQ

When you search for all members in a group from the admin panel, you should also find people who have that group as their sub-group.

Inherit permissions from another forum
by Guest Logan- 6 replies
- 2.3k views
IPB really lacks usability in the ACP, so many improvements could be made to make managing / creating things easier. I think it'd be really nice when creating a forum instead of checking all the permission mask boxes each time which is so time consuming, be able to inherit from another forum. There's a mod for this, and I think it's great. If this is implemented as a feature in a future version, it should be done the exact same way: http://mods.invisionize.com/db/index.php?f=5949 View the demo video here: http://www.dscripting.com/mod-demos/index....e2f907418e28c0c

Suggestion - User Subscription Management
by Guest John Pozadzides- 1 reply
- 1.7k views
It is actually quite a pain to manage user subscriptions if you have to do a lot of them because you have to go to a totally seperate area. It would be much easier if administrators could have the option of updating an individuals subscription when also editing the member's profile or when adding a new member manually. For example, I had to manually add 100 exising members of our organization into our new IPB. To do so, first I had to go and "Add New Member" 100 times, then I had to "Manually Add Transaction" 100 times. This basically took all day, when it could have been accomplished in about 1/2 the time if I could manage everything about a member on just one s…

Join Date vs. Subscription Start Date
by Guest John Pozadzides- 1 reply
- 1.6k views
As far as I can tell, the system doesn't allow seperate Join and Subscription start dates. This would be a great addition for the following reason: I just had to add 100 members of our organization to our new installation of IPB. We plan on using the system to handle membership dues via the subscription manager. When I entered the members into the system and did a "Manually Add Transaction", it asked me for the expires date. What I really need to be able to enter are two totally different dates: [*]The date the person became a member of the organization: Join Date [*]The date of the member's last subscription payment: Subscription Start When an administrator ente…

Multiple Pages in the IPB Subscription Manager
by Guest John Pozadzides- 0 replies

Under Manage Packages, when you Find / Edit Transactions and list all of them, if you have enough that there are multiple pages, the link to move to additional pages is only at the top of the screen. If you scroll all the way to the bottom it should also have multi-page navigation links. John

Suggestions to make skinning better
by Guest Kman_- 13 replies
- 4.9k views
IPB has some advantages over the vB skinning system, which is that you can edit the raw CSS. However, vB has some advantages over the IPB one: for one, their "easy mode" is much more informative and better laid out, telling what each thing changes and whatnot. I think IPB can benefit from this, as there are so many areas, that for a first-time user, it can be very daunting.
