[Request] Member Title

ACP - Tools & Settings - Settings for group: User Profiles How about making this a per-group setting instead. That way you can still have users promoted to a certain group after X posts (if you want), but at least my way makes it so if admins want to they can have it restricted to certain usergroups. This will stop people from spamming just so they can edit their title. What do you guys think?

Add Proxy Sites to Ban Filters
by Guest Kevin45- 0 replies
- 4.9k views
Is there any way to have this feature implemented in future versions? Somehow read where the incoming page request is coming from and block it if its listed in the proxy site ban list, like IPs, or user names. IP banning seems useless if they can hop on a proxy site, create a new name and continue harassing or being obscene. Perhaps there is a mod or script I could use in the meantime?

I really think , that the staff should offer a service of installing mods for forums , as it would help the people that cant code well or just to plain busy . This would also help people come over from invisionfree witch is very easy to code.

Getting rid of automatic quoting
by Guest JenGGG- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
I was referred here in this thread. When replying to a specific post in a thread, I would like it to default to not quoting the previous poster. We do not need everyone's posts repeated all over a thread, and it is a pain to highlight and delete all of that text. Is there any way to set this to not automatically quote? It is driving us nuts! It was suggested that we use the overall thread reply button instead, but then the outline mode doesn't look right. The ability to respond to individual posts is what makes a conversation instead of a bunch of responses to the initial poster. Thank you.

the forum search the way it currently is is a big mistake IMO
by Guest rakaposhi- 6 replies

the forum search the way it currently is is a big mistake IMO. It is far more practical to have the search at the top of the forum, rather than at the bottom. I think this needs to be rectified asap. Other bulletin boards have this feature and it is really very handy. It should be a separate drop-down option at the top

Allow search, even with 1-, 2-, or 3-character search terms
by Guest biggazillakilla- 2 replies
I know this must have been suggested already, but I couldn't find a thread. Why can't the search terms that are below the limit simply not be searched? Why is it necessary to give an error message telling the user to go back and remove all search terms below four characters? vBulletin does it this way, and I find it must more humane. Here's a very common example of what users do: you want to search for an error, so you highlight a full sentence. You paste that full sentence into your search box, submit, and get some results. At least on all the major search engines you do. But Invision requires you to go back and count and delete, which could very well be a tedious jo…

Set a topic to not reappear at the top
by Guest Petrescu- 0 replies
- 1.4k views
I just posted on a vBulletin forum, and it seems the topic i posted in hasn't reached the top of the page, instead it's about 10 or so topics down when the last reply was. If this is a feature and not a bug, it's a fantastic idea to put an end to a topic without having to close it. It'll die off eventually that way :)

Hidden Forums
by Guest TrueFangz- 0 replies
- 1.6k views
I remember back in the day, Version 1.3 had an option to make hidden forums that were only accesable by typing the URL manually in the address bar. I thought that was great, and most useful. I would love to have that feature back.

duplicate IP addresses
by Guest T22- 5 replies
- 2.4k views
I've requested this feature some time ago, with no luck so here goes again. It would be awesome if there was a button in the "manage members" part of ACP where you could click it and it would show you every user that was registered with a duplicate IP address, WITHOUT knowing the IP address or username. InfoPop has this feature so I know it can be done. thanks!

CPU Saving Feature

After yet another mention on national radio today... I find that I have incredible spikes in users. From 15 users online to 218 in seconds. Of the 218, 90% of them were guests. Server handled it rather well, actually... Once I went in and turned search off (That one just eats up resources) everything was fine... But it got me to thinking.. I don't want to turn guest access off to my board, but I also don't want to have my regular members locked out because we get a mention and get whacked with an ungodly number of users at a single time. Would it be possible to set a maximum number of guest users that could be online at any given time? This would give priority to a…

Apply / Install Modifcations

I saw this with SMF, which I've tested quite a bit. I would love to see this with IPB since obviously I prefer this software. I never go with the stock software I always use at least a few modifcations for it.

Delete your own thread in some forums
by Guest beddows- 0 replies
We have a buy & Sell forum on our forums. We do not allow people to delete their own threads normally, but we would like them to be able to in thisi section once they have sold an item or bought one. It would be nice to have an option in the individual forum settings for "ability to delete threads you have started". Maybe own posts as well that would overide individual user permissions for that forum.

pre-release development packages?
by Guest BRamburn- 0 replies
- 1.3k views
Ok I just realised this, ipb releases these cool new boards every 2-4 months changing the core, template or other things. once released it will take a business approximately 48-36hours to recustomize their skin, modification, etc... I was wondering if ipb team would be able to release a package with information of what has changed 2-4 days before, like for example the CSS will differ from version 2.x to 3.x so if ipb releases a small document informing users of change before hand so that they can start getting things ready and assure the business' dev team that most things will work as they will want to keep up with competition by keeping up 2date with technology …

Custom Profile Fields: Limit Scope of Topic View Display
by Guest ChrisA- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
Basically this suggestion comes from the fact I would like one of the custom profile fields on my forums to be included next to each members posts, but only in one specific sub-board on my forums. So it would be nice for example if I could use a bit of HTML logic in the routine for outputting the custom profile field displays into the skin like so: <if="ibp.input['showforum'] == 3">XBOX Live Gamertag:<br />{content}<br /></if> Hope that makes some sense - this is based on a query I posted here :)

More useful 'mini profile' fields
by Guest //Nathan- 1 reply
Honestly, who cares about member number? Some people care about join date and post count, but how important are these really? Why not trade them for age, gender, and country (reserving the Location for something more local). I realize there are mods to do this, but I think forums with these mods installed look and feel better. The mini profile should tell you a little more about the person, at a glance, than they do now. I think, at least, country should be a required field. Knowing some people here are from the UK greatly explains some posts that don't make any sense to me as an American. I see they're British - OK, that answers it. I don't mean to sound preju…

RSS import as single topic AND "select all" for moderator
by Guest squidfish- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
Hi there, I have 2 suggestions for the next version: 1) RSS Import as single topic What I am finding with my imported feeds is that the text is very brief...perhaps 3 lines of text and a link. It is very slow opening each topic and reading them one by one! Honestly who can be bothered when there is so little text? So my idea is that you be given the option to import each RSS feed as a single topic....and, if you go for this option, then each new feed entry is simply appended to the exisiting topic as if it was a "reply". There are different ways this can be done. A extra cool way (which would be more work of course for Matt) would be so that the title of the to…

Change skin colors, per user
by Guest //Nathan- 0 replies
- 1.4k views
What if the default skin didn't have color values, but user-inputted values? I don't understand what makes a skin a skin, but I'm looking at IPB from a user perspective, and I don't see why, for example this light blue around the posting window, couldn't be, rather than a reference to a hexadecimal color, be a reference to a variable set by default by the admin but changeable by each user. Same with the headers, it's just one color gradient to the other... why not define two colors or one color and "lighter" or "darker"? I think it would be great for each user to be able to choose what colors the board shows up in. And it sure beats having a skin for each color someo…

A New Installer

Personally I have been very happy with Invision Board as a product, but the ugprading procedures are about as bad as they come. The instructions users see is: "Upload all the files contained in the "upload" folder of the download distribution EXCEPT conf_global.php" I hate to sound like this but this is something I really expect from a free product and not a paid one. I mean is it really necessary to update every single file, images included, every single time there is an update from one version to the next (ie: 2.1.3->2.1.4). I just think there could be something done to make the process run a little smoother and easier.

Safe HTML
by Guest shazam521- 1 reply
- 1.7k views
I would like to say that this suggestion is to allow HTML to be enabled, but to deny HTML that hasn't been accepted by the Administration as 'SAFE'. If I rember rightly, phpBB (free software) has a feature that is very much the same as this request. I would like to see however that it would be even better if the HTML was able to be set by member group/Permission Masks. So for exameple say that the admin's allow all members to use the <b> - <i> - <center> - <img> tags, that would appear in a area that allows "All members to post using these tags". In another area, you set that only Administration members can post using (ONLY FOR EXAMPLE) <…

Bad Behavior
by Guest Ipstenu- 4 replies
- 2.5k views
I've spent a couple days fighting spam on a wiki and a blog and finally came up with using Bad Behavior to stop the dipsticks from bot-spamming. Then after reading about someone's DDoS recently, I wondered if this would be applicable for IPB. The basic concept of Bad Behavior is that it's a PHP script to prevent spambots from getting to your site based on their HTTP requests. On top of that, it's designed to stop any malicious software, be it spam, a a search bot or system crackers. And at first blush, I think that may be helpful for some people. The 'generic' version takes away the logging ability, but it's still possibly helpful. I've hesitated at installing it …
