skinning sucks and needs to be FIXED
by Guest pk62004- 5 replies
- 2.4k views
I just spent the last 3 hours trying to skin my board, and have to say it needs some imporvement. I'ved used a VB on one of my forum and never had so much problem as I do with ib. perhaps break it down into THREE parts instead of lumping all the elements together? maybe section one could be: forum index. section 2 could be topic view. section 3 could be board index. when I want to edit the signature field, i have to search through ALL of the classes just just to find the signature class. <_< Hope you guys find a way to make it easier to skin... I guess I'm the only one on this board who doesn't like the current skinning setup?

The 'new PM' alert...
by Guest Dan- 4 replies
- 2.3k views
It's only a minor suggestion and is also a very easy modification should you not want to add it, but I would like to see the option to have that pretty little 'new PM' alert show up in a pop-up. I would like to keep it as an option for users to use the current system, but it would be nice to see it able to show in a pop-up - mainly because I am terrible for missing PM's! :-"

Karma / Points / User-User rating system
by Guest Ashen- 11 replies
- 7.5k views
Ok, I've looked around so far, and I can't find a karma/points mod that does what I need, can you help me? Here's the list of the things the mod must do : 1) Users must rate each other, and the combination of everybody's rating must determine a user's karma score. 2) The ratings must be by a user, on another user. This is user rating, not post or topic rating. 3) Users must not be able to rate themselves. 4) The higher a user is rated, the more their rating counts in determining somebody elses score. Ideally it would be configurable, so that the admin of a forum could set how much more somebody with a high karma score's vote counted then somebody with a low or negat…

ROOT Admin Permissions
by Guest Logan- 14 replies
- 7.6k views
Hello, I know this has been suggested before but I just want to explain why it is so important. Imagine you had like what IPS has , IPS Management is the root admin group. Ok, But say they had a few members they didn't want to access a few things. The reg. key, SQL Toolbox etc... So you make a whole new group called Co-Management. Why? What would be the point. So what I am trying to say is, We need to set specific user-based permissions for ROOT admin group users. The main account like the first one, if possible. Set it as it has ALL permissions and no one else can edit it. Being able to customize the root admin users permissions individually via their user profile …

CSS Easy Mode
by Guest Hancoque- 1 reply
- 2.1k views
For a simple color conversion it seems to be a good choice to use the easy mode for editing the CSS instead of the advanced mode. But I'd like to suggest some improvements. Not all background colors are recognized: Most background colors in the default stylesheet are definded by "background" rather than "background-color" entries, but the easy mode only recognizes "background-color" entries. There are two approaches to fix this. Either you could provide a stylesheet that always uses "background-color" or you could advance your parsing script to recognize colors also in "background" entries. The latter would be the better way, because people wouldn't have to update thei…

Automatic warning expiry
by Guest RavenRaz- 3 replies
- 2.3k views
Would it possible to add a time limit for warnings - so that the warning will decrease if after a set period of time. At the moment it is left to moderators to manually decrease warnings which is cumbersome on boards with many members. An automatic option would be greatly appreciated.

IP bans for a limited period of time
by Guest RavenRaz- 5 replies
- 2.5k views
Often it is necessary to ban an IP when you ban a username to prevent the person simply making a new account and returning to the board. Its great that username bans expire automatically but then you have to remember to unban the IP address (and find out which IP it was in the ban filters). It would be great if an option to IP ban could be added to the Warn/ban system and suspend system in admin CP so they are banned and expired at the same time as the username. Obviously this should be flexible enough to allow you to select which IP or IP ranges you want to ban. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Poster and Staff forum
by Guest Keven Fox- 5 replies

Saw this on another forum software, but I'd LOVE to have it where I can set a forum where people can post and only they (and staff) can see the post. This would be a great alternative to PMing staff about certain issues.

Global Warning and Profile Editing
by Guest eyedam- 2 replies
- 2.1k views
Hello! Currently only admins (and super-moderators) have ability to warn members from their profile pages and edit their profiles. I suggest these to be added as optional privileges for any moderator. In addition, there was a profile editing privilege in version 1.3. Why did you have to remove it?! And the warning ability only from the forums the member is moderating is a good, logical feature, and it had to be like that from the very beginning. However, I suggest you create an additional optional privilege to allow to warn members from any forum (even from those where the particular member is not a moderator of) and the member's profile page. Also, if I'm not mis…

Permission masks with Deny access

Can we have the ability to specify Deny access on a permission mask? This would be a great option as it would make it easier to allow/deny access to forums. Deny masks explained.

I visit a couple of Invision boards. At one, if I do a "View New Posts", and then Log Off, they disappear when I come back. Is there a way, some kind of board setting or SQL parm perhaps, that can be set so that "View New Posts" has a better memory?

PM Archive sort
by Guest sboulema- 3 replies
- 2.3k views
In 1.3.1 the PM's in a HTML archive where sorted chronologically and it was reall easy to follow a conversation in the archive. Now in 2.0.0 and higher the HTML archive is different. It now sorts the PM's per folder and its really difficult to follow a conversation. And the css of the HTML archive was missing some parts, for the quote parts and other stuff. This was in 2.0.1 and i fixed it myself, dont know if its still in 2.0.2 But i hope the sort order can be changed back to the way it was in 1.3.1

Auto-Updater
by Guest iMonkey- 5 replies
- 2.9k views
Ok i'm sure you've prolly gotten at least one thread with this suggestion but i really didn't feel like thread hunting :P if anyone knows how the WebHost Manager of cPanel works, they will know what I'm talking about. cPanel comes with a button that just says "Upgrade". when you click it, it goes and auto-retrieves the latest update from cpanel and installs it to the server. it also goes and gets server software updates, but i dont expect that lol. my suggestion is quite obvious from the previously stated info. I suggest there simply be an upgrade script that actually retrieves the latest IPB package and installs it. of course it would check licensing as well before i…

Enhanced redirect forums (like symbolic links)
by Guest mrbuzz- 9 replies
- 3.4k views
Often I find the need to almost specify 'multiple' parent forums for a single forum, ie: I would like to add the same forum to multiple areas of my board. Currently, I'm just using regular redirect forums to accomplish this. Having a many-to-many for forums is probably overkill, so I figured this may be the next best thing. What these 'enhanced' redirect forums do is simply act like a direct pointer to another forum. It'll show last post, forum name and description, topic and post counts of the target forum. Much like an alias or a symbolic link. That would rock. I also believe this will tremendously open up IPB to having much more flexibility in terms of logicall…

Admin CP: Add New General Settings Feature
by Guest Shawn Dean- 0 replies
- 1.9k views
Hey, Matt, could you possibly add an option to add in javascript, and extra field varibles for setting fields please? Example: When creating a new setting inside a setting group, say the field is a text input. In the setting form, you can add a field to give the size of the input or something like that. And if no size is given, use the default lendth. Same thing with multi-select dropdowns. Instead of the limit being 5, we can change it to like 8 or 10 or whatever number. Dean

I think it would be nice the assistant, while showing how many posts were replies to topics I started, also giving the number and link to a search that shows posts in topics you have posted in. Make it easier in the morning to pick up where you left off the night before. Keith
