Emediate reacted to Marc in "A more professional report center" Bug
Its quite normal for bugs to be fixed in the next upcoming round of bug fixes. Its not something available in a patch at present.

Emediate got a reaction from Adriano Faria in Email Change Validation for Existing Members
Scammers are an increasing problem for community managers. Most of our moderation efforts (daily) now revolve around security rather than moderating actual discussions, which for a community of over 100,000 members is a nice problem to have, I guess.
However, the biggest issue we see these days is hijacked accounts. Not new accounts.
Their account has been compromised in an external data breach, and of course, because too many people use the same password everywhere, they eventually get into our community after monitoring their victim's email inbox for a while.
The first thing they do once they get access to a user's account is change their email address to one of their own so as to not alert the owner of the account. Sure, the system emails the original email address to let them know that it has been changed, but by then it can be way too late (as we have seen first hand).
Now I understand we can change the settings to require Admin Validation of email addresses, but that applies to New Member Registrations AND existing members. We don't want to have to approve every new member (we'd need a full time staff member just to do that daily). But we want to Admin Approve email CHANGE requests for Existing Members. That functionality doesn't seem to exist presently?

It was a firewall issue, resolved now. Thanks.

Emediate got a reaction from Adriano Faria in Disallow users from canceling invoices
Why would allow the recipient of an invoice to cancel it?
Seems backwards to me. Admin should be able to cancel an invoice, but not the other way around.

Emediate reacted to Philooo in Photo processing
Nowadays, photos from smartphones often weigh several Megabytes. My iPhone 11 pro gives standard 3,6 Mo pics and 4032x3034 pixels
In Invision, we can set the maximum weight of each photo, the space allocated to each, it's very good
We can also set the default display dimension in forums. Generally, between 800 and 1600 pixels. Rarely in the very large native dimensions of photos produced today.
This raises a question. Why keep original photos whose size and weight are not suitable for web publication?
Wouldn't it be appropriate to automatically reduce the size of downloaded images, so as not to use unnecessary space and to maximize their loading speed?
Of course, this device could be configurable, disengageable, with a quality setting ....

Emediate reacted to Adriano Faria in Disallow users from canceling invoices
Is that possible at all? Users can go to the Orders page and cancel invoices.
These are not “renewing” invoices. They are the charge for a job.

Well. That was an unfortunate typo.

Emediate reacted to Adriano Faria in Extra column on exported RSS feed
Is it possible to add an extra column to the exported RSS feed without a hook, as I will need this functionality on IPS5 as well?
- \IPS\core\Rss::generate()
/* We have to use get() to ensure CDATA tags wrap the title properly */ $title = \IPS\Member::loggedIn()->language()->get( "rss_export_title_{$this->_id}" ); $description = \IPS\Member::loggedIn()->language()->get( "rss_export_title_{$this->_id}_desc" ); $document = \IPS\Xml\Rss::newDocument( $this->url(), $title, $description ); foreach( $results AS $result ) { $result->addToRssFeed( $document ); } return $document->asXML(); } Thank you.

Commerce has not been removed. It will continue to be available and they're adding more support for digital transactions (like better ad support, more subscriptions options, selling different digital offerings on your site, etc). The only thing removed from Commerce is the ability to ship physical products. The marketplace closure is not related to IPB5 development and has been done for MONTHS already.

Too late! Haha. We've been preparing for 6 months now. Removing redundant plugins, redeveloping others into apps, trying to second guess what we will and won't be able to do. Overall, it's been a long overdue process for us anyway, with at one stage over 60 different plugins and various things! Our board is running all the better for it now, but bring on V5!

Wow, great work!
If you have the means to do this, then this is an excellent start. It's also worth reevaluating plugins every 6 months or so to see if they are still effective or if you rarely use them or they had no impact on your community.

Always something good to do 🙂 I've done the same myself in the past, and ended up with none at all lol

We have to kind of feel our way through it. We have milestones, like:
Alpha 1
Upgradable Alphas
Upgradable from 4.x Alphas
Beta x lots
Final
But the timescales are really determined by how much feedback and how many bug reports we get. Rarely, we need to rethink a feature or code and do a bit of reworking. I would expect the beta process to be fairly short given how thorough we are with the alpha.
We've yet to build zips and have people install it on various servers which always adds a little volume to the tracker. That'll be coming up fairly soon.

Emediate reacted to Matt in Invision Community v5: An update, and next steps
Update: The alpha system has been built, and all the initial teething problems using Invision Community v5 without IN_DEV have been fixed. As mentioned above, currently all JS/themes and CSS is built on demand, and rebuilt on demand (often quite a lot). In v5 it's built once per version and stored in a new location, so there were some teething issues with that.
We'll test this new system internally today and if all goes well, we can start getting people in tomorrow.

Who is ready for an alpha site to play with?

Honestly, I wonder why people who use IPS are seemingly obsessed with emulating or trying to improve upon Facebook, etc. - to me, the biggest "threat" are sites like Reddit when it comes to IPS-driven sites.

This is something you absolutely must take on the chin, and whilst I understand your point - it is not always possible to provide visible updates to everyone and nor will everyone read them. There are updates on Michael John's site, albeit a bit old, but I don't believe he's someone who would just walk without trying to address things.
If you managed to get your money's worth from the app, then that's at least one good thing. I would definitely recommend purchasing Adriano's app.
Yet anything in the real world can and will happen, it's not always as simple as leaving updates and as you mention. Devs won't simply give their resources away for free; it takes a dev to pick them up and to pay a fee for them. In most cases, I think it's more common to see a new resource created from scratch.
Keep in mind that some Dev's have died, others have left in bad ways, but Michael is between this as far as I can tell. Whatever has his focus must be very important to him.
I get what you are saying, but it's not something to be expected.
It's a gamble on our part; you pay for the resource as it stands and Michael is one of those devs who add features to improve his work without additional fees. Whilst an explanation to say "I am unable to provide updates for the foreseeable future." would be nice.
There are no guaranteed expectations.
I don't think we as clients have that right either, at least not to demand it. As I say, I get the frustration, but I sway more towards concern than outrage.

I too have moved to a compatible new and alternative version of the Videos app and it's wonderful and in constant development and evolution. The new marketplace process is having some positive impact IMO.
