  1. had a few questions, sorry can't test right now have other project deadlines and IPS uber support staff are working on an issue with permissions on my site so I can't add any third party products just yet.. these questions been tossing about the grey matter. copy from forums to GC only copies structures not content. = true / falsemove to GC moves structure and content? = true / falsewhen it moves do all the links to existing forums or posts get a new url or is that static to the original ID'sis it possible to restrict forums or apps in the GC to a particular language or is that still user defined?
  2. @Kevin Carwile - So far i love what this is going to become - just now getting a chance to formulate how I will deploy this. by way of humble suggestion - I will attach a screen shot of a very basic mockup of the First Level I would like to see for Collab. Currently on entering the collab you have just big black spaces for panoramic artwork to go in there, which means I'll now have to go re-new my subscription to iStockPhoto or some other place like that to find artwork that abstractly captures the essence of the content - sadly it will become dated very quickly and most likely be of images of a random group of office people or some other such cliche. This would be the first screen on entry in lieu of the pano-photos. For me the current system is too many levels deep for my users - and if I decide to move several categories and forums over here I don't wish the people who maintain them to feel slighted or that these have become buried. The idea is that each Collab has its List and Grid View, and you can see at a glance the options that collab has ( apps ) and a blurb about what the group is about. Not sure about the avatar - perhaps the member who set it up or probably the last person to contribute to the group (regardless of app) - or perhaps a logo of the group setting it up. Also the "About Link" at the top of each collab would navigate to a basic "page" that describes what goes on here and who and what are. etc. And of course if the collab is open to allow users to add start their own via the link is there (see the second group) and also a button at the top that would be a drop down of available collabs humbly - stephen
  3. observation: a forum must reside in a category - (in order to create one ) however once you create a category and a forum you can move the forum to the top level then delete the category.
  4. Suggestion: strip out html characters from titles. Since it's open to the the members may open up issues. (not sure if it allowed it because I am admin or not )
  5. not sure if it exists - but is the same thing true for deleting content - i mean if someone set something up then got their feathers ruffled and just pulled the plug deleting all content in the process? Or is there a "send request to admin to delete this "group" or something to that effect. ( been busy hadn't had a chance to check )
  6. i didn't see it mention here - but once you login to 4.0 ACP you should go to System > Support > Choose Something isn't working correctly. it does some other tests to make sure things are done - like running some database queries, and cleaning caches.
  7. OMG - well what do you know - finally got to test that part out - forgot to turn on something and didn't flag an existing group as the model. ( however ) it does require an admin to create a default (for each collab) in order to flag it as a model template. if a group has been flagged as model and then hidden via permissions will it still be used as the defacto settings?
  8. A few more thoughts... When creating a "model" would it be handy to have a stock set of Generic Categories and Forums so when someone creates a new collab a with a forum representative structure is present - (its easier to have items created and turned off, where a blank page isn't readily obvious to a end user. Collab Category Collab Discussions Collab Questions Collab RedirectI would suggest the logic could be pro active and if there are zero forums then it should dynamically create the Category Container, in addition to the forum. after there is one of each then the admin page should show additional option to create MORE categories. End users don't understand the hierarchy requirements that Discussions/Questions/Redirects require a parent. alternatively you could force them to create a category first then permit them to add additional content items. Discussions Users can start topics that other users can reply to. Replies are shown in the order they're posted. Questions Users can ask questions that other users can post answers to. Answers can then be rated by other users and the highest rated answers are shown first. Redirect Redirects users to another location when clicked on. Category Container for other forums. Nothing can be posted directly within them.

  10. if you have .htaccess you may need to change the paths if you are operating in a different directory then the live site.
  11. removing leftovers - once upgraded and operational deleting all the leftover files & folders. I also noticed that since directors are merged th Admin directory is one of them that needs all the OLD admin files no longer needed.

  13. CG is separate from your Forum's and Forum index any groups setup are not displayed in the Forum Index. (or in the Forums Management in the ACP - or any other App) If you want to "advertise" the groups in your forums at this time I think we have to create banners or links that point to them until, future release does more promotion or awareness, (blocks etc ) from other contexts. I plan to have an "affiliate" group and then several affiliate sponsors will be able to manage and maintain their own forums / blog / gallery / download / calendar. However once I do this users looking at the forum index will not know they exists - as they will have to go elsewhere to view it. Hence we will have to at the very least mange and maintain a pointer in the main forums to the CG. (until other features come to light ) I am still in the planing stage and may also use iMenu app to make my own menus to assist with this. The nice thing is that based on permission people looking at VNC will be able to new content posted regardless if its in the main forums or any groups independent forums. @Christophe - if you have a test site I encourage you to download the demo version it's a great way to kick the tires. 4.0 makes it easier to install / uninstall apps. If I have time later I will make a walk thru video demo - if Kevin doesn't mind or someone else doesn't beat me to it.
  14. Suggestions: When on a form or the app in the GC clicking on the Name of the Group doesn't do any thing - it should probably go back to the Home Page for the group. I plan to use iMenu in connection with CG to help highlight groups, out of the box the all group's content is about 3 levels deep. ( Collaboration > Category > Group ) So initial content discovery is not readily apparent. What would be nice is to cross pollinate some sort of forwarders in the Main forums that redirect to the group: (or some other means where admin can promote these in the forums ) - I guess the reason for the forums is that's what most people are use to and where most traffic reside. Collaboration User Groups - My GroupUser Groups - My Other GroupAffiliates - My AffiliateAffiliates - My Other Affiliatealso perhaps some sort of "about page" as to what is Collaboration ( or what ever title its given ) when you land there you can an "about" link to explain the purpose and with permission the end users abilities.

I can try to answer some of these.. 1. you (Admin) setup the "Collaboration Group" and assign permissions and what features that group can have ( forum / blog / page / downloads / gallery / calendar ) Users enter that "group" then can create their specific group name or entity with all the apps as was permitted in step 1 - however they can choose which of the apps they wish this group to have. 2. events? you mean calendar - if setup yes. 3. The group can be "reviewed" and users can "Star" the group 4. You can give the tab in the menu bar any title you wish. 5. There is no "Copyright Notice" for the the app. Also when using View New Content any entry in any app for the group will appear in the respected VNC Filters. IE - forum topics will appear in the Topics Filter There is an additional filter for the App "Collaboration" (or your custom title) that will show which group has new content. The object is you the admin designate generic "Groups" or "Categories" then your members based on permissions can go in and create manage and maintain these groups, from the front end no ACP access needed.
  16. It appears the default locations Ad locations are enabled for GC. Things to consider: the main banner pushes down the cover index and the group coversindividual custom ad content per groups? Site admin can create packages with custom ad locations for the template.GC overwrite the Default Ad Locations or be able to disable them? (perhaps by way of up$elling to the group organizer?)some other ideas - the cover photos should could possible crop down in height when you drill into the group ( group index > group menu > group app > content ) similar to how any users profile has the main cover photo, and it reduces height when you toggle between Profile & Activity i'll probably have more ideas but I am coffee deprived for the past few hours and starbucks isn't open Stellar work!

  20. setting up the cron as my user on cPanel produce the error above - ended up logging in as root and set it up system crontab and that seemed to do the trick.

  22. I am getting this error... using config file '/home/fmforums/sphinx/sphinx.conf'... indexing index 'core_search_delta'... FATAL: failed to open /var/sphinx/core_search_delta.tmp.spl: Permission denied, will not index. Try --rotate option. also forums_search_topics_delta doesn't exist as a string in the conf file?
  23. Still can't get this to work. Checkbox will not SAVE or store any data Why are checkboxes Vertical and Radio buttons horizontal? And on the profile page the fields are NOT grouped by the CUSTOM GROUP, when one of them is set to be REQUIRED.

  25. after hitting my head against this feature it turns out that it not fully baked. You can create custom profile fields - Great! You can create custom groups for these fields - Super! When you look at a users profile this group is displayed - Perfect! When you are user editing your profile - is far from perfect, there is NO concept of your custom GROUP! instead fields are sorted if it is 'REQUIRED' or 'OTHER' So your carefully thought out fields organized in groups have ZERO organization for the user filling in the fields - its just a pool of fields with really no organization. Also one MAJOR oversight is the missing CHECKBOX for field options, this is severely needed!!!!!
