I think that is the page linked from the forums - http://www.invisionpower.com/support/docs/getting_started/board_gsg.php actually went somewhere then it might help.
Even the info you had up there 3 or 4 weeks ago would be good - even if it not finished as partial info is better than a dead end. -
BTW - when you do edit an article the code is mucked up goes to
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'></div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1--><a href='<if test="ruleslink:|:$this->settings['gl_link']"><!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
Personally being totally new to IPB, I struggle at time - I often have the inline help open in the ACP, but more often than not, there is no entry.
For example I would like to use IP.Content - but honestly do not know where to start.
Searching is not wonderful on here - but I do tend to use this if I have a query - then will make a post if I do not understand something - whether I get a reply is another matter.
So if there is no documentation and I can't find it here and no one responds to a post - I am stuffed.
It isn't an error, so I can't out in a ticket really (am sure the tech guys do not wish to answer questions - they are there to fix errors)
So I do not care whether it is a wiki, manual, pdf, help file, stone tablet, smoke signals - as long as it gives the answer and is findable then it doesn't matter (searches on here for many common phrases in IPB are pointless as they have been repeated so often or are under 4 characters)
The other issue with anything on here is that IPB 2.x and IPB 3.x are combined so one cannot search purely for IPB3.x :( And the 20 second timeout - just searched for 'upload' for example in resources and got nothing - so one has to wait another 20 seconds to search for another word. Not ideal for a support lookup.
Just my 2p's worth ;) -
hardly the same thing ;) A wiki would be good.
-
Thank you - looking good btw.
-
Any chance of this being made a link.
Thank you. -
thanks - when my clients complain, I'll give them your name ;)

When I asked about this to my upstream provider I was told that this would be available to all users on the server - and could cause major issues if requests coincided. hence the restricting of it.
'On your head be it' was the impression I got - i.e. it would cause more problems than it solved. -
You could also always contact your host and ask them to do it for you :)
True - but then it often is outside of their normal support scope.
off to search google - used to doing things on a global scale. -
However the 128MB would then be available to all users on the server - which could result in problems.
The information I have been given is it should only be updated if necessary and not automatically.
This is the advise also given by VB.
Like anything ask 6 people and you will get 6 views. -
Would be excellent for clubs / groups.

Having come from different software, we are having moans for a slightly different reason - but the same issues apply.
The one problem that we have is that 'Today's active content | The moderating team | Today's top 20 posters | Overall top posters' - only appear on the forum home page - if people never visit that page then they never see those links.
There also seems no way to make 'View New Content Method' have the default value of 'Show me all the content I have not read'.
If these two items were available to all users and not just those who visit either the home page or change their settings then life would be a lot easier. Perhaps put 'Today's active content' at the top of the page, close to the 'View New Content'.
To me it seems daft to have content available with no links to that content on 99.9% of the site. -
As someone who has only just converted to IPB - the biggest issue that I see is that there are far too many small developer type sites - and not one decent sized site fulfilling all mod requests.
I guess the resources site is aiming to do this - but is only really a store.
The problem is that the developer side of things is weakened by the large number of sites, rather than strengthened,
Maybe it is because there are more mods being charged for with IPB than other software, I do not know - but it is a shame that there is no one central location.
Maybe when I am more used to the setup, I might thing differently - but as someone who used to do a fair bit of coding everything seems diluted. -
Having just implemented some feeds yesterday, I too would rather not see a bot top of the posters in the lists & sidebar.
-
Try logging out and back in -you should be okay then.
If not open a ticket up.
Permissions were changed here a couple of days ago. -

Might be an idea to post an announcement as it is not nice to suddenly have restrictions without having done anything wrong.
-
If annoyance were to save your site from being hacked, then I would to prefer to be annoyed. However I would also ask 'why did your site not force me to have stronger password in the first place!'
Mind you it is academic if it is not even possible ;) -
Would be nice to have a script that could test all passwords and email/PM the customer requesting them change their password if deemed too weak.
-
Also, you say he has a hosted community.. wouldn't that put you in the Active Customers group?
I would have thought so - but was basing my assumption on this thread - and others.
maybe he cancelled it - I do not know (or care ;) ) -
All installed, all seems to be working and nice and fast.
BTW - when I move the forum directory and create a new database - what do I need to delete and re-run?
I assume clear the logs and go from 'configuring IPB' - or is there anything else that has to be deleted?
Also if there are more than one IPB running on the server, will there be any clashes?
Thanks. -
-
Time to try my first IPB upgrade :D
-
I've probably logged 20 tickets in the last 3 weeks, since moving to IPB, and now I'm testing the post size limits with this suggestions list - sorry about that, btw).
Anyways, thanks for an awesome piece of software, and I hope to see some of these in future releases. :D
no, but you broke the email notification - it just came through without any post detail ;) -
According to your other posts, you already have a hosted forum - so you can just pay a small amount, to add the blog to your hosted forum.

it has been released - shame you still have to 'pay' for a free sub :(
