  1. Indeed - which is why it would be good to have a script which would test passwords and contact any member who has a weak password.

I think password conditions should be part of it - however there is no way to tell if any member of staff has a weak or strong password - one can only take their word for it.

However with IPB each member has a different (usually) login name - so any hacker would probably not know this. Unless they hacked their email.

  2. In Canada, Facebook are having to remove content if members decide they wish to cancel their accounts.

    Account Deactivation

Canada's concern: Facebook doesn't make it clear what happens to your personal information after you pull the plug on an account. Deactivation doesn't necessarily mean deletion, and users couldn't be sure that their account data was being wiped clean.

The fix: Users will be given an option to either deactivate or delete their accounts. Upon deactivation, they'll be notified of the option to delete, and can elect to do so should they want all their data gone for good.

If Facebook are having to do this, then so will forums surely.
  3. Hi,

I have mine set to 'Show me all new content'.

However I am finding a lot missing.

For example all the threads that I am watching do not appear - overnight I had 3 or 4 emails, but none of theses are in the list.

Is this a bug, or am I understanding it wrong?

It is also not showing all the new posts in the forums - several are missing.

  4. Charles - not sure who you are referring to as I opened this topic - I have been dealt with by Mark 10 days ago, who has been very helpful.

As far as I am concerned this topic can be closed.

  5. I run another forum software at the moment before converting that to IPB.

That also has PM conversations - it is just a simple case of ticking the required PM's and clicking email.

A HTML email is then sent out with the conversation as it appears on the screen.

  6. Also need the ability to search for two or more words say +speed +test, which as far as I know is not possible - if it is then instructions need to be given as to how to customize the search.

  7. Why does this have to be a bad thing?

Why not make the package $0.01, its as good as free but handles the transaction through paypal, this can help ensure people don't signup to the trial multiple times unless they have multiple paypal accounts (which would require multiple credit/debit cards)...

Mainly because for me it would not be a trial. it would be a method for them to sign up to a group - I could charge a cent/penny - but then I would break my word on that my forums would always remain free. This would force a charge for viewing forums obtained via the signing up to the group.

  8. The ability to add multiple domains (Multiple forums with different categories) to 1 invision database install that shares members/post stats/etc.

when you login on the homepage it displays your websites instead of all your forum categories.

    a.com

    b.com

    c.com

When you click on a website it then displays the forums like IPB does now.

Each website would have the ability to have its own categories/forums/sub-forums.

Would be a great feature - however it would require additional licences - something that I would be prepared to buy in return for this feature.

it is a feature that many people have tried to achieve over the years.

The only way to do similar is to use converge - but this would not allow the sharing of forums :( but at least a site could use multiple domains.
  9. You should have the choice of.....

No Email Notification - This option will not send out any email notification, but will retain the topic in your subscriptions panel.
Delayed Email Notification - This option will send out a notification if a reply has been made and you're not active on the board.
Immediate Email Notification - This option will send out a notification immediately after a reply has been made, regardless of your activity.
Daily Email Digest - This option will send out a daily digest showing all new replies for the day
Weekly Email Digest - This option will send out a weekly digest showing all new replies for the week

  10. As for social bookmarking, this may not be exactly what you're talking about, but this is an idea that I coined up and could potentially have a similar function:

    3.1 request. "Favorite Posts"

Placements of ads would be best as a mod, even though I think it would be nice if skin templates were to pre-exist for that purpose so that if you add the html code it would automatically show it. But other than that, best left as a mod.

The countdown, eh.. Being told that that the user must wait XX seconds between searches along with "You must wait another YY seconds for your next search" would do the trick. Edumacate them on the delay and tell them how much longer at the same time.

Re social bookmarking - this would not be within the browser / forum, but on external sites - now used by most of the larger sites - helps with search engines etc.

Ads - not sure why the ability to have ads built in should be a mod - many do not have the coding skills to place them between say first & second posts or above the quick reply box - so a built in option would be nice. Even if it just a couple of locations. 'Tis better than nothing:)

  11. And what about the Clean Cut skin?

I am using it here, and much prefer it - hopefully it will be released quickly. (not necessarily 3.0.3, which will be when it is ready, but the skin)
  12. I would like to see....

    Similar Threads
'Search forums' / 'Search threads' boxes being at the top of the pages close to 'Add Reply' etc., as where they are at the footer they get missed by the majority.
View First Unread - (at top of threads) saves hitting the back button and then the small arrow on the forum page to go to the first unread post in a thread
Social Bookmarks - digg, Delicious etc.
    Tags
Google ads (or similar) - with the ability to display adds in a number of places (between say 1st & 2nd post), inside the first post, in the header / footer. above the quick reply etc. All these being controlled by usergroups as to who does and does not see the ads.
When a restriction is in place for a period of time, give a countdown in seconds - saves people clicking the search button time and time again (which probably is a greater load that running a countdown).

I'd like to suggest an option for the members to choose between a 12 or 24 hours time format display ( like 8PM or 20:00) and the date format like dd/mm/yy or mm/dd/yy

    +1 :)
  13. Displaying results by topic rather than by post would be much better - with the option to display by post if people preferred.

Can't think of any situation where for the majority of users they would need to see the same word repeated 20 times in the one thread. And so had to look at the 21st result to see the next thread.
