We are changing the existing Profanity Filters feature to become the new Word Filters feature. This change will allow you to define words that will initiate a moderator review before content is posted. With creative use of this new feature you can actually have the Suite self-moderate certain posts. Right now the Profanity Filters are pretty basic. If you enter "stopword" you can have it change to *****. That's fine for basic profanity but sometimes you want to do other actions with a word.

For those of you who have been with IPS for some time you may have been aware of a previous announcement regarding the development of two separate products called Nexus and Dynamic. Nexus was to be an ecommerce billing system and Dynamic was to be a content management system. As we developed these products the Internet market had changed quite a bit so we have made the decision to totally discontinue Nexus and Dynamic production as they were. We know many of you were looking forward to either N

IPS is introducing a program whereby we nominate a charity to receive our attention and support. These nominated charities are chosen by IPS for the work they do and how they might impact us personally. The first nominated charity is Autism Speaks. You can find out more information on our charity page. IPS and our Client Community It is our goal to expose various charities to our client community and organize our many thousands of clients to do something good. We make community software an

We had previously posted a release schedule for our product line through the end of this year. When we made that schedule we neglected to factor in that our staff in the United States would be off work for the Thanksgiving holiday. Obviously releasing a new version of a product when two days later a good percentage of our staff will be off would not be good for our customer service. Therefore, we will not be having a release on Tuesday, November 23rd. Along this same subject: Please note t

It's hard to believe that we're close to wrapping up 2017 already. It seems like only yesterday we were putting the finishing touches to Clubs, Fluid View, Profile Completion and all the other new features added this year. We're not resting though, Invision Community 4.3 is well underway and we'll be releasing news of its new features soon. Our developers have been busy squashing bugs and release Invision Community 4.2.6. Regular visitors to our own community may have noticed that we've bee

We have put together a login module which fully supports OpenID 1.x and 2.x protocol specifications. This module is a beta release which we hope to expand upon. It is available freely to all customers with access to our official resource site in the IPS Releases category. Click here to view this file For those not familiar with OpenID, it is a protocol specification that allows a user to select a trust root (a site they can trust) and register. Then, on any site that supports OpenID, the us

In part due to the awesome success surrounding our first community-supported project, we are in initial stages of preparing our next Community project. As many of you may already know, Stewart had been working for some time on a Gallery uploader tool - an application a user could install on their computer to easily manipulate and upload multiple images to an IP.Gallery web installation. Stewart made great progress on the tool before he left, and while we do have employees here capable of progr

Our Pages CMS is one of our most popular applications as we are continuing to improve it based on feedback. Any edits you make, once saved in your text editor are instantly available which makes it much faster to build HTML pages with Pages.   Database Template Improvements We listened to a lot of feedback about templating

There is a lot to be excited about with PHP7 - the performance gains are significant and we are eagerly awaiting mainstream adoption. With that said, IPS4 utilizes several third party libraries to provide functionality across the suite -- one of these libraries is HTMLPurifier. The developers of that library are not yet supporting PHP7 and are specifically recommending PHP5. While we have resolved any known IPS specific issues within the suite for the next release, we too must recommend that you

We'll keep this blog entry short and sweet, since there's not a whole lot to say. Developers have asked for further documentation of IP.Board (and addon applications), specifically source code-level documentation of the various classes and methods that can be reused. Those of you familiar with phpdoc will know that it's the perfect tool for the job, and thankfully we wrote IP.Board 3 using phpdoc-style comments to facilitate this job. After a lot of cleanup and tweaking, we have made the ph

Often when you are reading a topic, comments, or other posts, you will see team members replying. Although IPS Community Suite already allows groups to set up custom images and member titles, these replies can get lost in the noise. Version 4.1.13 now allows you to switch on post highlighting per member group. This makes sure the reply stands out from the rest of the replies.   Of course, this feature works everywhere; from calendar comments to article replies.

IPS is making some changes to our pricing to streamline our offerings and recognize changing business needs. That Pesky One Cent It gets pretty old saying "it's nine ninety nine" so we are going to round up all prices to their nearest dollar. So, for example, our community hosting Basic 10 service will now be $10 rather than $9.99 or IP.Blog will become $50 instead of $49.99. Yes, we realize it's only $0.01 but really you have to admit $10 looks so much cleaner than $9.99. Rikki, our interf

Nearly two decades ago, Invision Community President, @Charles , set out to make a leading online community platform.  Around that time, Charles also met his now-husband of 18-years and hasn't looked back since. Until now.  Behind the code, product updates and newsletters are a group of people who share a passion for community building. Considering how volatile and toxic the Internet can be, we want to become more visible, transparent and vulnerable.  To help you familiarize yourself w

This week's question is inspired by liquidfractals's reply to last weeks question. What is your favorite music and which bands would you have loved to see live? We learned many things; mostly that our team have poor taste in music. Brandon (Senior tech support and development)  I like a lot of different genres. I grew up with rap and pop, but I like R&B, country, electronic and rock too. Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs n Harmony is probably my favorite rapper (and I've seen the g

This week, the team have been discussing the one thing they can not live without. Some found this a hard question to answer. What is the one thing you cannot live without? A tricky question for some. Could you pick just one thing? Brandon (Senior tech support and development) My family is my saving grace and escape, and even though they're (collectively) the ones typically causing me the most work I wouldn't trade them for anything.   Mark H (Tech support) I

This week, we were inspired to discuss home automation after @Joel R raised the question in a topic. With so many commercial options available now, such as Alexa, Siri and Google Home, we started discussing what automation we have in our homes. This week we'll focus on the a few team members who have heavily automated teams. Although @bfarber's answer "I have kids to help automate the home" was a clear winner. Welcome to the first of a new regular series we're calling "Question of the week". Each week, we'll ask our team a question and share the replies. To kick things off, we posed a very simple question: What is your favorite TV show right now? We may have over-estimated how much TV the average geek watches. Here's what our team said. Brandon (Senior tech support and development) How do I answer this without writing an essay?! I really don't watch too many TV shows personally,

This week, the team have been discussing their very first computing memory. This will probably reveal a lot about the age of some of our team. We recently worked out that when Matt and Charles first met and started producing community software, some of the younger members of our team were still in primary school. What is your first computing memory? An easy question for tech-heads as we've all been toying with computers since our earliest days. Brandon (Senior tech support and develo
