Invision Community 5: A video walkthrough creating a custom theme and homepage By Matt Thursday at 04:02 PM
Patrick Tipton Posted February 28 Posted February 28 We are having trouble getting .mov files to play. The files are small enough....but we get the following screen: I can download the video from the post and it plays fine on the computer.
opentype Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Simple answer: don’t use ‘mov’. It’s a proprietary Apple-only format and was never meant to be used in the way you are intending to. The standardized format (which actually came out of mov) is MP4.
Marc Posted February 28 Posted February 28 To clarify, this isnt an issue with the software. Its that your browser will not play it
Patrick Tipton Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 Thanks for the responses. @opentype I am an admin and this was someone else's post and their video file. Since Invision Community specifically lists .mov as an acceptable file type, it makes zero sense that the files are not intended to be shared. Cheers.

Im a little confused by your response there. mov is an accepted filetype, however they are also apple specific and will only play on apple devices. This is not something over which we have control. You can of course limit the uploading to specific types of file if you wanted to do so

beats23 Posted February 28 Posted February 28 The video will play on Apple's own browser, which is Safari, because Apple owns Safari. The video will not play on Firefox because Apple does not own Firefox. People who use Safari will be able to play the video. People who don't use Safari will not be able to play the video. Patrick Tipton Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 OK....so the recommendation then is to limit the forum uploads to MP4's....since the world doesn't revolve around Apple?
beats23 Posted February 28 Posted February 28 As an admin, you could download the video, convert it to MP4 using handbrake then re-upload. https://handbrake.fr Patrick Tipton 1

We do offer automatic video encoding on our Teams and up plans on Cloud if that is of interest. If you deal with small video numbers though, you could indeed limit video uploading to MP4 since it is a universal format. Patrick Tipton 1
