Are posts held for possible spam?

Recommended Posts

When I was using bbpress, some posts were held for approval as they were flagged as spam. Most of the time, it was accurate and they were spam, but other times, they were legit posts from members.

Does that feature exist in Invision? Is there a filter somewhere to help catch spam? Is there somewhere posts might be held for approval?

Although spam has been rare, it has happened and the posts were mainly reported by my members.

Similarly, on rare occasions, a member will post something (even me) and the post does not show. Is it held somewhere?

  • Carole Asselin changed the title to Are posts held for possible spam?

IPS includes a feature when REGISTERING, if the system suspects the account is suspicious...  it can make any posts made by that member moderated.

Take a look at the following guide for info:

Specifically you are going to set the option to allow registration but require moderation approval of posts.

Could contain: Page, Text

Once that is set, you can control how long they are moderated for after registering (say 7 days or even indefinitely!)

So, would you have an explanation as for why some occasional posts (including mine) will seem to post, but not show up in the thread?

I would check to ensure the following:

  • the forum you're posting in doesn't require moderation approval.
  • the account(s) posting do not require moderation approval.
    • if this, check also what Randy mentioned above.
  • you are not hiding your posts or future publishing the topic.

If you are unsure, please provide an example topic/post and we can take a look

That would be hard to show since they are "missing".

One member emailed me, asking me to check the spam folder, since that is how it happened in the past, with bbpress, but this time, I was stumped.

I also do one looooooooong post every day when I host a workshop, and twice in the past, the post no longer was showing up the next day when I was to add the next post.

In both instances, they are in regular public threads, with regular members posting, so those questions really don't apply.

Well, if you have an example of what those posts contained or if a topic what the title was, we can see if we can find it. The only way it would not be present completely anymore would be if it was deleted. That is the only case where you would not see it as an administrator/moderator who has permission to view hidden topics/posts.

I'll pay attention for the next time it happens as right now, I have no information to share. But knowing what kind of data you would need, i'll keep track of it.

Thanks.
