Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
Vladimir Bardiyan Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Sorry if this topic has already been discussed. Only I have a problem with the search in personal messages?
Vladimir Bardiyan Posted March 7, 2019 Author Posted March 7, 2019 It seems to me that it worked in 4.4. Stopped working in 4.4.1
Adriano Faria Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Yes, I remember using it on 4.4.0 here on IPS. And a bug reported (not sure if in 4.3.6 or 4.4.0 Beta) is still there: Broken pagination.
bfarber Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 The option to search by username did not actually work reliably and correctly in all cases, and is SUPER performance heavy. This isn't a big deal necessarily on small sites, but on sites with millions of PMs, just performing a search in the messenger could take the site down. So it was removed - if it doesn't work correctly AND it's a performance hog, it's not worth it. @Adriano Faria feel free to submit a ticket if you have found a bug.
AtariAge Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Ugh, being able to search by username is ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT when you have a large forum and potentially thousands of conversations in your inbox (I have nearly 30,000, but that's obviously an aberration). Surely there is a way to support searching by username efficiently. Just pulling out the feature entirely is very disappointing to see, as this was one of the things I was looking forward to when I get my forum onto 4.x soon.
Vladimir Bardiyan Posted March 7, 2019 Author Posted March 7, 2019 Now I find it very difficult to find the right conversation. I did not know that they would remove this function. Otherwise, I would have written the username in advance in the message body.

In this case, search by member name should be configurable in the AdminCP, allowing administrators to enable or disable this feature.

Vladimir Bardiyan Posted March 7, 2019 Author Posted March 7, 2019 nevertheless it worked before! I have always used search by user. Now you need to scroll and carefully watch. ;(

DSystem Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 The user search in AdminCP also had modifications that degraded the results. Research continues to be a problem in IPS and each version worsens results in return for performance. I am in favor of more configurable searches where the administrator can configure according to the needs of the communities.
Vladimir Bardiyan Posted March 8, 2019 Author Posted March 8, 2019 It was possible to warn that search by user will no longer be available.
