Yup, like that idea. Will add a new version later on.

  • Can't wait for the new version which will limit links. We see a huge increase of users that signup just to drop a link and then never come back or posting anything useful. So if you can add a limitati

@Nathan Explosion I really liked the idea of your plugin. We face this problem of users not posting enough text and then complaining that we didn't understand his question. A nice addition would be preventing users from posting only a link (e.g. to prevent users from posting just a link without any supporting text).

Yup, like that idea.

Will add a new version later on.

@Nathan Explosion It would be great if it could also detect links that IPS converts to embbeded code (e.g., youtube links are converted to embbeded videos).

Already does it 'out of the box' - the plugin discards html so the count doesn't included those. Links are different as a link actually has a text element too (ie the word show on the link) hence why I needed to do this new version.

If someone who buys the plugin has any other exclusions that they would like put in, then I'll do that.

@Nathan Explosion Cool. Please tag me here when you have the new version up and I'll buy it! :)

Just follow the plugin itself in the marketplace - you'll be notified then,

v1.0.2 uploaded.

  • Added ability to exclude text in links from the word/character count.

As mentioned above, if any other exclusions are needed then please post them here.

Would be great if plugin will limit number of atachment in single post and limit number of links to youtube in single post, as it was in 3.x

20 links in post times 20 post in topic view can ruin browser.

Sticking strictly to word & character counts on this one at the moment.

Maybe a future version, down the line.

Yeah, 'down the line' means next update to the plugin :D ...coming soon....

I need to set limit first post/reply to different number of characters and number of images. I.e. first post must be >500 characters and must be >=1 image. Reply must be >100 characters only. Can you add this feature?

Once I've got my next release of this out, then I can look into that.

My apologies ahead of time if I am asking a stupid question. I am very new to IPS!

1st Question: Does the message (lower and max limits) display only when a writer is violating its requirements?

I have installed it and was trying to test it in my test forum before going live with it in the story writing forums and nothing I did made the message display. What I wanted the plugin for might now be how it was designed though which is my bad. I was looking for a something that would alert my writers to how many words they had written so far and when they were approaching the upper limit of what we allow before asking they start a new reply or a new post entirely. We're an RPG site.

2nd Question: Will the plugin ever be upgraded so it displays a post's word count after it is saved / submitted?

Thank you so much for your time.

The message is displayed regardless of violation or not - if you are not seeing it, via PM send me a link to your test site along with credentials to test it out (also, send me screenshots of what you have as your settings on each tab)

As it's intended to display in the editor, wasn't planning on doing the above. But it shouldn't be difficult to add it in anyway - I do have an upgrade of the plugin that adds a number of additional checks but as the plugin didn't prove popular I put it on hold. I'll look at resurrecting it in the next few weeks.

Thank you so much for your timely response. I am going to do some more testing of the plugin. Need to go through my others and make sure it's not just a conflict somewhere. Wanted to make sure I understood how it should work first.

Thank you again!

This is what you would expect to see on IPS 4.2.x:

This is what you would expect to see on IPS 4.1.x (ignore the video reference...that's not in the live release):

Awesome! I am going to run a few more scenarios. If I cannot sort it out, I will PM with all of your requested information, including screenshots.

Back with one last question... I figured out what I was doing wrong - I think.

Does it only work on new posts / topics? I have been unable to get it to work when editing a post or in replies.

Thanks again for your assistance!

New topics, replies and editing of those posts should all be covered.

Quotes already are, and last time I tested for 4.3.x compatibility they still were - if the quote is a 'new' one ie:

Quote

This is me creating some information in a quote

....then that is counted because it is content. But if it's a quote of someone else ie:

Can't remember if I excluded code though.

I don't see you as a purchaser, so is this a query about functionality or is it a bug report?

Hello!

The purchase page indicates that you're working on extending this to Pages. That's potentially great news for me because I'm looking at preventing overly lengthy comments to articles built using Pages. How near do you think you might be to providing a Pages-ready version?

Didn't do it in the end - that comment was added in as someone who was interested in purchasing asked if it was possible so I started looking into it. That person didn't purchase in the end, so I left it to the side.

I'll look at it again at some point, but it's not going to be soon.

Hi Nathan, I'm considering this plugin for a new project in the upcoming month.

One question, I assume you can set limits in specific forums, but you can not set different limits in different forums, right ?
