Good-Admin Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 A full secure ssl connection (https) continues to become an important aspect for any website. Not just for security, but also seo ranking, and the peace of mind from your users. Google has publicly stated they will favor sites using full https. Browsers also have made it painfully clear and obvious when a site isn't fully secure. I think it would be a great benefit for IPB to have an image proxy system. Disabling hotlinking will only make your site less user friendly. People instinctively want to link a photo from somewhere else and they're not all willing or are unable to learn how to upload.
Tripp★ Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Could be something in IPS itself when a site is using https? Something similar to: https://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/7510-ssl-image-proxy/
opentype Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The whole web is slowly moving to https. So a native and reliable IPS solution which automatically deals with future and past uploads throughout the community software would be fantastic. I am in no hurry, but I am certainly looking forward to see that on the road map and move my sites over someday.

Something similar to: https://community.invisionpower.com/files/file/7510-ssl-image-proxy/ This is OK for the short term. But I do look forward to the idea of core element in IPB. Yes, we agree. Wonderful. I look forward to seeing this manifesting into IPS products and services.
AutoItScript Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 This is OK for the short term. But I do look forward to the idea of core element in IPB. Oh I agree, and I wrote the plugin If something similar does end up in the core I'll definitely write a script to convert the proxy urls I use into whatever format. I like to use minimal addons on my board, even if my own. What's interesting is my plugin first does a check to see if the http image a user posted has a valid https version. In over 60% of cases they already do have a https version available so no proxy is required, just a url tweak. That goes for all the common image sharing sites. So It's not as big a problem these days as one might imagine. (I converted about 10000 images on my site, and 6000 actually had https versions).
