Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
CarterMarkham Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Search ID: I go back a lot and having to re submit is a pain. IP.Content: It seems hard to use. I just want it to set up like vb cms or vbadvanced. I know you don't call it a cms but it kind of is. I don't want to have to program it myself. I want it set up out of the box. New posts: not exactly working well here. Preview thread: If I need to click to preview I might as well just view the thread. Hover would be nice. More like xenforo not vbulletin. Subscription: I like the subscription option on vbulletin. It's nice to select subscribe when I reply or create a thread.
Taylor J Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 You can subscribe to topics here too by clicking watch topic inside of the topic.
AngelFire Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 not totaly sure what you mean by search id, so cant answer that one, you can use the portal or there is the unreal portal if you want a more basic setup to a cms new posts works well for me on my site and here, maybe look at the settings in your profile or mark the posts as read once you have finished reading new posts preview popup, there is a mod todo that, but it is a paid for mod. subscription, ipb call it watch, look at the top right of this forum or topic, click it :) There are many people from vb here and they love ipb :)

I am a current vb owner and have moved 2 sites over to IPB, so lets see if we can help Search ID: - you need to explain this more IP.Content: Its easier when you get to know it. Start by changing one of the demo templates and pages to learn your way through it. Don't use the Ureal portals etc are they have terrible support. New posts: I know what you mean, to get the functionality you want you need everyone to change their personal setting to posts I have not read, from its default. I have asked a few times for an admin over-ride on this to set it across the board, but nothing has arrived yet. Preview thread: I agree, topic hover would be much better. There is a mod for this, but I would prefer it as standard. Subscription: There is "watch topics" or you can use IP.Subscriptions (depending on your requirements) the 2 work differently

How about - Incredibly friendly team who gives a damn about what features customers would like - Incredibly fast support - Incredibly easy skinning system - Incredibly hot president Features are something that can be added.
CarterMarkham Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 Search ID, it is a way to remember the search when you click the back button. For example, with ip board if you do a search and click on a result and then click back, you have to resubmit the forum. With vb you don't have to do that.

I agree with all of the above ... I would also add that IPB is more forward looking that vB with addons like IP.Nexus. :)

That would indeed be helpful... I might make a modification for it sometime :) (If IPS doesn't include it in their roadmap)
CarterMarkham Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 That would indeed be helpful... I might make a modification for it sometime :) (If IPS doesn't include it in their roadmap) It is a great feature. Also one thing I noticed is when I quote with vb the quote instantly goes in the quick reply box not a redirect to a full reply box.
Dave Legg Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Preview thread: If I need to click to preview I might as well just view the thread. Hover would be nice. More like xenforo not vbulletin. I asked about this and it will be included as standard with 3.2 :)
majdi Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 october/november i guess i say, not before December looking forward to it, its gonna be an awesome release
bfarber Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 ... IP.Content: It seems hard to use. I just want it to set up like vb cms or vbadvanced. I know you don't call it a cms but it kind of is. I don't want to have to program it myself. I want it set up out of the box. ... While understandable, the biggest problem is that everyone wants it configured differently out of the box, so it's not really just possible to have it working to everyone's liking upon install. The articles system does help in that you can install and get going before having to dive into the power of the platform. october/november i guess I don't believe you'll see 3.2 that early. The next release is 3.1.3.

I was talking about 3.1.3 not 3.2. Sorry. Pretty sure 3.2 will be Q1/2011
CarterMarkham Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 The more I use this forum, the more I like it.
Management Charles Posted October 12, 2010 Management Posted October 12, 2010 I agree with all of the above ... I would also add that IPB is more forward looking that vB with addons like IP.Nexus. :) I'm quite touched that you agree with ALL of the above.
Nityananda Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Oh yeah .. and the staff are mental and cheerfull as apposed to mechanical and miserable:D
bfarber Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Oh yeah .. and the staff are mental ... Hey, I resemble that statement!
Rojoxo Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Just coming from VB and PHPBB, I must say that the staff here is MUCH more pleasant. A simple question on the other forums can result in snide comments. >_<
CarterMarkham Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 Snide comments...that would be me but over at vb... ;)
Rhett Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 We do need a way to change the default new post view.... is this something we can edit somewhere manually for now?
