Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Cool Surfer Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 It would be good thing to have auto welcome pm (configurable via admin cp) because when a visitor registers, it feels good when you ar welcomed. .... juts human psychology.
henke37 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I still think that this should be a modification. But what about some bundled modifications?
Ziv Grosu Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 +1 It can be installed as a built-in feature (there should be an option to enable/disable Welcome P.Message).
Mama Gail Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I agree there are some clients like myself that use the hosted version and can't add in modifications, so if some of these things were added as part of the admin panel than we too would be able to use them.

I imagine this could be done via the hooks system in IPB3 fairly easily
Andrew-T Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Sounds good to me. It should have off/on switch if Admin dose not want it.
Andrew-T Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 same with auto-birthday messages.. Edit: Threw The PM? Maybe that can done threw a Mod or Hooks.
AndyF Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I imagine this could be done via the hooks system in IPB3 fairly easily I think the same. Should be reasonably easy to do with 3.0. I know there are a few modifications about that you can use for this on 2.3.x... Am about 50/50 on whether I would like something like this built in or not. :)
Jυra Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I would love to have this built in, but it would only lead to people ignoring them. If something like this is added, make the default welcome PM say "Edit this" instead of a generic welcome message.
TCWT Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 +1 and upon the first login, there should be some text instructing the member to change their profile, options via hyperlinks.
Leone Club Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I would also like to have a weekly notifications of hot topics.
Jυra Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Wouldn't this all lead to members getting emails? I'd picture a lot of people hitting the spam button.
Luke Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Welcome PM might be nice, birthday PM is ok (but to me pointless).. But what I'd like to see most is the validation routine improved quite a bit. Currently when you validate you get this little tiny message after the registration script. After you leave that message, you never see it again. If you login, you just see a "Resend Validation" link. What I'd rather see is have the system auto-login the person who's registered and display a message about validating under the member bar. This message is always seen on every page under the member bar so they don't forget to validate.
Depot Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 If you're going to have a welcome PM you may as well go for the birthday autogreeter and happy anniversary too. <_<
Mesmer Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 If you're going to have a welcome PM you may as well go for the birthday autogreeter and happy anniversary too. <_< don't forget the happy CAPSLOCK DAY (which is today :P)
TrixieTang Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 I wouldn't mind these built in, but I doubt they will be, probably be left as mods.
Cool Surfer Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Wouldn't this all lead to members getting emails? I'd picture a lot of people hitting the spam button. No only th person who signs up geta a welcome email, and maybe a welcome post detailing him how and wher to post and how to search etc.....
Jυra Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 If you're going to have a welcome PM you may as well go for the birthday autogreeter and happy anniversary too. <_< I get at least 20-35 birthday emails from forums a year.No only th person who signs up geta a welcome email That's what I meant.
Josh Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 These features seem like perfect candidates for modifications to me and I'm sure there will be a few pop up really quickly.
squidfish Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I think it would be a good idea to include this.
China J Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 These features seem like perfect candidates for modifications to me and I'm sure there will be a few pop up really quickly. LOL, they are all currently mods by Michael aka Fusoya for 2.3.x - I'm sure he will have no issues upgrading them all for 3.0.x
Cool Surfer Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I get at least 20-35 birthday emails from forums a year. That's what I meant. You would have received only one email authentication/verification email before this when you sign up. Then this one. VB even welcomes you after you verify ur email. Well..... if you dont want your members to get this email, thenhow bout a welcome PM ? Anyway, forums are all about posting, subscribing to replies and receiving notifications. You cant really enjoy a forum if you dont like receiving emails. The only exception would be whnen you join a warez forum or something like tht, you say thank you get the link to download n never bother to check the reply.
Cool Surfer Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 LOL, they are all currently mods by Michael aka Fusoya for 2.3.x - I'm sure he will have no issues upgrading them all for 3.0.x Better things come only with suggestions n implementing those suggestions. QUick reply, ajaz quixk reply, PM system for private convo, getting email notifications, multiple quotes, codes, iframes, all these i am sure were added to forum scripts as they must have been suggested by members. So first there must have been mods, then later added as part of forum.
