Amy T Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 In other words, the changes are extensive enough to the point that converting skins won't be a simple matter for novice skinners. In many cases it will be easier to just start the skin over. CSS class names are entirely different, the xHTML is entirely different (e.g. tables only used for tabular data), the template functions are compressed, and we use template plugins to accomplish things previously done in the source files unnecessarily. The look of many pages is entirely different. The changes are quite extensive. I am so excited.I am all wet in excitement over it.

It would be incredibly helpful for those of us who have dark-colored forums, easier to tweak.

Amy T Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Not excited at all, are ya ;) LOL ya I was joking. Glad you liked my comment. :)
zonerz Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 So far, I haven't read anything about whether or not the new version will make emoticons easier to manage if you have lots of them. It would be great to be able to sort or group by theme to make them easier for our members to find. Also, it would be great if the ACP had an option to set 'quick reply always open' as a global default.
SecondSight Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Hello ! I just have one question : will it be easy to upgrade a big board to version 3 ? Thank you ! :)
TrixieTang Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 what do you consider big? I'm guessing he's talking about by the big-boards standard, 500,000+ posts.
TestingSomething Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I'm more worried about all my current mods not working. And having to get someone to rewrite them and pay them again! Yeah that is the ONLY thing that sucks as fara s I am concerned. I am not going to worry much about the mods I sue though since others will be doing them and if it takes a while, fine whatever. But I want my OWN mods to work and so I am going to be obsessive about needing to convert them as soon as possible. As soon as we have any version that isn't encrypted I guess I will start then. I am pretty sure IPS said they would release dev information before the final release where moddes have time to start converting. (I hope I didn't imagine that lol).
Amy T Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I'm guessing he's talking about by the big-boards standard, 500,000+ posts. Ah ok thanks I wonder how many MB that would be for the post table in the database. Mine is about 50mb and I have over 100,000 posts. I did delete 60,000 posts that was wroth 20mb so am wondering how big a database is with 500,000 posts.
Jaggi Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 what do you consider big? i think i'll stay quiet on this one :P.
SecondSight Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 what do you consider big? Sorry. As for my board, I have a 6 GB database. As for upgrading to version 2.3, I never managed to have all the posts content rebuilt. So I wonder about the next upgrade...

If you just post "a" 500,000 times, it wouldn't take much space. However if your posts are at a story length, it may take gigs. As you can never find out a "real answer", why don't you just multiply yours with 5 :P

Must of my posts are short.

X3773 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I have a max size on my database of 100MB so I can't really have a big forum...but I can have 100 databases....
Amy T Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 LOl you must have 1and1 as your host. I left them do to that limitation.
X3773 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 They have awesome storage space (300GB) and bandwidth (3TB) but I hate the limit on there databases.
Amy T Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Ya must over sellers like that oversell have limits in place to keep you from actually being able to use that much space. Must have things in the TOS that keeps you from being able to use as much space as what is on your plan. Thats why must people say to avoid over sellers. As long as its working for you I would not move as it can be a pain to find a new host. Although IPB has good hosting at least from what I can tell.
TestingSomething Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I have gone into the future to see the release date: Tuesday, November 25'th, 2008 at 3:33 P.M. I am too tired to be sure if it's the final version or just an RC still though...
MonroecountyMS.net Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 When the new IPB is released will there also be a corresponding downloadable file that explains/details the skinning of the new IPB.
TestingSomething Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I am pretty sure they said they would detail changes when the RC versions are out, but I am kind of doubting they would have full skinning guides that soon. Maybe, but in the past skinning guides weren't available upon download.
