When will we see IPB3?

Featured Replies

I'd say we'll get the "hosted by us" look within about 2 - 3 weeks. We then should see it available to download as public beta by the end of October, which gives a solid 5 - 6 weeks of public beta testing, and around 2 - 3 weeks of candidates.

I'm predicting we'll see it live within around a month.

Disclaimer: I'm not a certified psychic.

I misread the email IPS sent today and I thought it said that IPB 3 was now available and then I came here and saw no announcement anywhere and then re-read the email and it said IPB3 "information" is available. lol

Ditto, I even told Charles off :P

Yeah, I was excited when I first saw the email, and my excitement quickly waned when I realized it was just talking about information that's already been posted..

..Al

who cares about release dates, all I care about is a stable product. don't rush out ipb3 just because the end of quarter 4 is coming into view...

I wonder when we will her info about the new blog, gallery and downloads system...

I want to know what 'they' have planned for Tracker and Shoutbox aswell  When do we hear that

So far, I haven't read anything about whether or not the new version will make emoticons easier to manage if you have lots of them. It would be great to be able to sort or group by theme to make them easier for our members to find.

This is a feature that people have been begging to have updated for as long as I've been using IPB, but with no luck. It seems it's just not seen as important enough. I'd love to see the feature updated in 3.0, but I'm not holding my breath.

The problem is, while there is a small minority this would benefit, the VAST majority of users have either the default set, or a slightly enhanced set of emoticons (as in, maybe they added 10 more).

We have spent our time on 3.0 working on features we feel will benefit everyone, or at least mostly everyone. Something like grouping emoticons would not benefit very many people based on feedback we've seen.

I disagree i think it would bee the other way round. You proberlly have far more "hobbiest" forums then "corperate" forums. The hobbiest forums would most likly use far more emotions then the default. Unfortunatly i do suspect IPS gives more weight to the corperate clients then hobbiest clients

Yep more likely then not.
A lot of sites I go to have hundreds of smilies.

We do our very best to balance the needs of all our customers, which is more difficult than it seems. We do not give preference to one type of customer over another when we design a new version, we simply try to do what is best for the majority of our customers. This often means we do not include features that we ourselves would like to see, we have to keep a good balance for all customers. It's not possibly to give everyone what they want, but we hope everyone gets something they want - if you know what I mean :)

I have about 40 smilies but I don't care what order they are in. If someone wants to use one they can find them or they can type it out, that's my view.

Eh frankly it is indeed annoying though trying to find them sometimes.

Ya I understand same thing happens on my site when people want different things.

What confuses me is in the admin cp you have the ability to make smilie folders but there is no way that I found to have it so all smilies in all folders are available to all skins.
I never saw a point to having more then one folder if not all skins can use all folders.

Who else is feelin' the charge in the air as this gets closer? :) lol

Whats the new "My Controls" going to be like?

My members say that it is a little confusing, so I hope the new one is a bit better organized :D

If not, it's better than nothing.

and new ways for smiles doesn't really make a difference. Even in hobbies forums, who is going to use all those smiles?
