I'm working (as always) on optimizing the user experience for several Invision boards that we manage. One option I am looking at is to have static (or rarely changed) files such as CSS, IPB and IP Gallery image files hosted on a content distribution network such as Akamai, Edgecast or Amazon Web Services CloudFront. Has anyone undertaken such an initiative and have any guidance to share in terms of the best practices for doing this optimally for IPB and IPG? Cheers, Rob

Yesterday, I was hacked. They rewrote index.php to contain their own crap, so I replaced it with my own and all seemed well. I was running 2.3.5, I googled exploits and there were a few, so I wasted no time in purchasing another 6 months and upgrading to 3.0.2. I changed the passwords for FTP, cPanel, my account and those of my staff. I locked down as much as I could to prevent it happening again. I don't know how they did it, or if they did anything to my SQL - and that's my question. Is there a way to find out if my SQL has been tinkered in any way? There are tons of tables and indexes and so on, so it would be impractical for me to search everything manually. I'…

MySQL Crash

Hello, Recently my MySQL server crashed and it seems that the EVENTS table in the information_schema database got corrupted. When I try to backup a database with SQLYog, it runs the following statement... When I try to repair the EVENTS table, it says access denied, and running mysql_upgrade doesn't help either. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks, Nick select `EVENT_NAME` from `INFORMATION_SCHEMA`.`EVENTS` where `EVENT_SCHEMA` = 'database_name' order by EVENT_NAME ...and results in the following error: Cannot proceed because system tables used by Event Scheduler were found damaged at server start

This is a DirectAdmin problem and not IPB  Unfortunately, the ownership might have change to Apache and not the user. please note it's not the permissions, but the ownership that might have stopped you from moving/edit files one way or another:)

My site froze everyday and had me looking for new hosting with more resources. However, we believe the yandex.ru spider has been the culprit. If you are experiencing periodic daily downtimes check the activity level of yandex.ru before upgrading your hosting.

I'm currently upgrading from an aging server to a new one, and am looking for recommendations as to what to run on it. I currently have an Intel Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz with 4GB RAM. The software is as follows: Debian 4.0 x86 lighttpd (lighttpd 1.4.19-4) mySQL (MYSQL 5.0.51a-9-log) PHP (5.2.6-2 [cgi-fcgi]) XCache (1.2.2 I think?) This server is aging for us, so I'm upgrading to Dual Xeon 5420+ processors with 16GB of RAM. I'd like recommendations on the best setup of software to install, if I should go with mySQL 5.1 or if I should use a newer version of PHP or if I should use a different PHP accelerator besides XCache, etf. I'm installing Debian again (x64 obviously …

Hey guys, So I'm not an expert (in anything), but I've been running a few pretty active forums for almost 8 years now (most of these years were IP.Board!). I've had to endure several server moves. I wanted to write a brief outline of my experience, since moving an active forum to a new server isn't the easiest thing in the world. The dilemma with moving an active forum is that: a) because it's active, you don't want your many users to tolerate any downtime. b) because it's active, chances are your DB is huge and so this increases the time required to move over, and the potential downtime. Moving a forum entails a few things: 1) Getting the code up and running …

Hello, I am in the process of moving my forums to another server. Is there a way through SSH or something to do that without wasting hours and hours to download everything on my pc and re-upload everything? it has a gallery too with some pics, would take quite a while, let alone regular files which take 30+ mins by themselves. Thank you

Wasn't exactly sure to post this so apologies if I have placed it in the incorrect forum. I updated my board to 3.0.0 last week, everything's been working like a dream until this evening when I went to access the board and got the following error message. (Ignore the *'s, thats my ftp user account) Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/*****/public_html/forums/ips_kernel/classDbMysql.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/home/*****/public_html/forums/ips_kernel/') in /home/*****/public_html/forums/admin/sources/base/ipsRegistry.php on line 2100 How do I fix this? Thanks for any help you can give me.

HEllo, I am very new to the setting up a website idea and have run into a few problems. I was hoping someone wouldn't mind taking the time to help me through this frustrating confusion. 1. I had a friend of mine test my link and forum link from work and it would not let him access it because of this message--> content categorization: "none" How do I fix this? 2. Even though my site is not done I have noticed that it doesn't even show up on any search engines. Is this something that I have to pay for also? Is there a main service that places my link on all the search engines? I have more questions but I want to try and figure them out some more myself. It'…

Ok so i have IP gallery installed and im using the lastx_images mod that allows you to put last 5 images on any php page but my problem is you have to put a php file with the script in your forums root directory then include it. So the php sctipt is in /forums the script is called lastx_images.php, in the readme it says put include(/forums/lastx_images.php) in any php page to bring up the images but it only works if your in the forums directory. Im trying to get it to work in the root directory on my portal page. I'm using IIS 6 instead of apache so i think the include feature works kinda diffrent can anyone help?

So, I dropped an installation of 3.0 RC1 onto a sub domain on my hosting account, and now tell me that index.php is chewing up far to much CPU time and Utilization. My thoughts are that it's probably something with how they're dealing with IonCube or a configuration problem with PHP (Safe Mode is Off) below is what the host sent me... Any suggestions as to the root cause as this was occuring with 2 concurrent connections... I would like to get some information on how some IPB users set up their web servers. My server's specs are: 2.4ghz quad core xeon 4GB of ram dual 250GB SATAs FreeBSD 7.2 (32-bit) My web server is setup like this: nginx 0.8.3 PHP 5.2.9 (FastCGI using spawn-fcgi 1.6.2) APC Cache 3.0.19 Memcached Sphinx My issue isn't really with IPB itself, but there are many people who run large web servers here so I hope I can get some advice. Testing my web server, I hit it with quite a large amount of requests, and when I hit IPB it maxes the CPU out very easily. On average I will hit it with around 300 requests/second, and it will only respond to about ~260 of them, an…

Hi Guys, I am not techy minded in the slightest so please bear with... I maybe on the hunt for an alternative to Invisions servers as I have just run out of storage space and the next decent Invision package is going to double my costs. This is what I have at the moment:- 1800MB diskspace 100GB bandwidth Unlimited e-mail accounts Unlimited FTP accounts 10 MySQL databases and this is their alternative that would suffice for the next twelve months:- 3500Mb Storage Space 175Gb Data Transfer At present I am using over 2100mb of storage, have in excess of 4500 members, that have contributed 400'000 posts and nearly 27'000 images in 18 months. Is there any…

Matching IPs

Technically, there has been a volume of people getting IP banned on my site due to breaking our rules. And when I checked "Manage Validating" then manually clicked people's IP's, it matched to the banned person. Is there anyway when I go on boards, and someone who's banned and registers a new account, I can get a alert or notification that can be sent to me about it? Because this issue is getting worse, and I need to get rid of the people immediately. Thank you.

I inadvertently deleted an entire forum containing about 50 topics and 500+ postings. Is the content still in a file somewhere? Is there a data recovery mechanism in the Admin Panel? Thnaks. ^^

I have 500-1000 post each day. Anyone have other tips to optimize for better performance?
