  1. I'm trying out the new registration format for 4.7.x and I wonder why does IPS require a person to click twice to validate an email.

    the process:

    1. fill out registration form and click create my account

    2. new screen says confirm your email; look for email in your inbox.

    3. Email inbox displays an email from IPS that has a blue button with white letters and instructions to click the button to validate the account. Like most systems, once you click that link or button, your email is validated. But not with IPS.

    4. After clicking on the blue button in the email, a new screen appears for 4.7 that says you're almost there but .... you have to click the button again to validate your account.

What is the logic behind having to click once to validate your email and click again to validate your account? Can this second step be removed? Is there a setting in the ACP?

    Thanks.

  2. I have marked agree on most of the pushback replies above.  As an administrator who knows his way around this 4.7.2 version, at least in a general sense, I find myself continuously using Google search for marketplace items or help topics about different aspects of IPS 4.7.2.  If I use the search bar provided, more often than not I don't get any useful results.

Here is a specific example: as I prepare for my upgrade to 4.7 from 3.3.4, I wonder if I can add or change the like button choices, currently offering agree-like-haha-meow-thanks.  Some of you know the exact term for that button but I don't - at least not yet.  If I search 'change like button,' I don't get anything useful.  My reaction? Try different search phrases on Google. It will be faster and more efficient.

  3. So this may be the solution to this issue. After I went in as an admin, I found that the 'can create albums' setting was disabled for the administrator and the members groups in the ACP setting under the Members section and under Members - Groups.

Once I enabled the setting, I was able to create an album in the clubs.

  4. The demo is the only live instance.

My platform is on 3.3.4 and awaits upgrade.  I downloaded the demo to get an idea of the new capabilities of the gallery in particular since I will be migrating my external SSO-linked 4images gallery to the IPS gallery.  I also had an image link on my current platform for my version of Clubs, aka the third party plugin Social Groups.

The demo was very revealing and has allowed me to plan how I will structure the new gallery and clubs but this issue of not being able to add images to existing albums as a regular member clubs seemed like either a setting was missing, a permission was missing, or it's an oversight by the developers.

Now I can add a second gallery within the club, but that then gets unwieldy as I would like multiple albums within a single gallery. The second photo shows the "Image" gallery that I added is now included in the menu.

That is not an option within clubs at the present time.

@Marc StridgenI'm using the demo and tried, I think, to do exactly what @TimeTexasChris described and I could do it.  What option am I missing that isn't available? See the club on our demo: Images - XanderGrysen's Community (invisionservice.com)

Thank you for the response! And that does work in the overall Gallery, but within a Club, that option doesn't come up. It is shown in the options in the administrative panel under clubs as an option you can allow - attached. But when I go to add a photo, it never provides an option. Now I can add a second gallery within the club, but that then gets unwieldy as I would like multiple albums within a single gallery. The second photo shows the "Image" gallery that I added is now included in the menu.

Is it possible to have a single gallery in the Menu, with multiple albums under that gallery - similar to the main gallery? It seems the galleries in the main site are treated differently than in the clubs. But I could be missing where you can add an "album" to the "gallery" within a club even though the option is available under the club settings>gallery settings.

    Thanks!

@TimeTexasChris Since I'm new to the 4.7 gallery, I have been trying all sorts of tests with the demo.  I have been following your topic to help me understand what constraints there might be for images in clubs.  I'm puzzled because in one club I created, I have two images without an album, then I created an album and added images, then I added another image to that album and then I created yet another album.

Take a look: Images - XanderGrysen's Community (invisionservice.com) and you are welcome to register if you want to poke around - it's just a demo.

  7. @JimM  I understand although it is a bitter aftertaste since I have been paying for an IPS license all along.  I realize you had to move on to 4.x and you wanted to create an incentive to get everyone on the new platform.  All I can say is I am trying to upgrade but this is a huge thorn in my side.

Are there any developers in the community who would be willing to look at this for a fee?

    Thanks.

It's possible your old conf_global had a hard coded IP address or hostname pointing to your old host.  When they deleted the old account, it was removed.  The screenshot you posted showed the domain being www.glrf.info.  When I look up that domain, I get an NXDOMAIN error meaning there is no DNS records configured for that domain.  So it's also possible a DNS configuration issue is also in play if that is your domain as well.

aha!  okay, I'll look at that

the website and the ips board is back online but only because the hosting company restored the old server.

the support guys are saying that there is a file buried deep in the ips files that is pointing to the old ip address. They promised to send an email detailing the file but it's been 2 hours and nothing received.

I called support again and the new guy said that although he is not familiar with IPS products, given what I have said, that the website was operating on the new server and new records and topics were created, and that it went down when the old server was removed, that points to a hard coded connection string in some php file that points to the old server but still allows the new server to save data from new topics created.  That is the most concise description I can give but clearly I need to find that setting in the IPS files to fix this.

  10. Hi -

I'm still on 3.3.4 and will be upgrading soon with the help of a third party expert.  I was notified by my hosting service in July that my DV was approaching end of life.  They did a migration to a new DV and gave me as much time as I wanted to make sure all the files had moved over. Yep, all was great and I used some form of a cmd on windows to ensure my installation was in fact working on the new server.  yes.  All set.  For 10 days, everything worked wonderfully on the new server. Then I contacted the host and requested they close the old server.  As soon as it was closed, I started getting a database driver error. See the attached image.

I called the hosting service and relayed what happened and they said that most probably the database files have to be reconfigured to point to the new server.  Anybody have any clues what files I need to fix?  The conf_global.php file says localhost.

I can open my acp right now.

Thanks for any insights you might have.

  11. Okay, I now have the app installed on my phone by going to chrome and going to invision community.  I found two routes to installing the application: one was a pop up note at the bottom of the screen and also clicking on the three button vertical menu icon at the top.

So I found the application displayed on my phone.  So this application is universal to any browser or does it default to Chrome? Can I change it to default to Edge?

  12. Okay, I don't see that icon in the browser bar but I did find it by clicking on the three horizontal buttons and then selecting apps in the drop down, and then selecting 'manage apps.'  Now I have a new tab that has 'Apps' on the left but what do I type in the search field?

Then I had an idea - maybe I need to login to Invisioncommunity.com. I did that and then reclicked on the Apps selection and the Invision Community app appeared below the search bar.  I clicked on the manage apps thinking that is what I should do. Suddenly there is no Invision Community and if I type it in the search apps field, nothing shows.

So then I close that Apps tab, and repeat the steps again with the three horizontal buttons and Apps, and this time, when the Invision Community appears below the manage apps, I click on it and I am led through the installation process.

Okay, so now it is installed.  There was also a new window with the Invision Community website that popped up.  I just assumed it was a wrong key stroke so I closed it.  Then I went back the Apps setting, and saw the installed application and clicked on 'Open.' Again, a new window opened with the Invision Community website.

So I'm still confused.  Is this new window just another browser tab in Edge or is this somehow a special application that has other features?

Next question: is there a pwa application for my android phone?

  13. I'm using the 4.7 trial right now.  I went to customization, icons&logos but I'm not sure I see any place to "fill in all the details.  The only option is to choose a single file under application icons.  I opened this community site on my phone and enabled push notifications for Edge and Chrome but I don't see any image to represent IPS on my mobile homescreen.

You wont get a prompt to see if you want push. Those are something set up in your account notifications. You will however need to ensure you have add the app, which will show differently depending on the device. For example on android if you click the menu icon on your device when visiting the page, you will see "Install Application". On Chrome it shows in the address bar that you can install the application (and it prompts)

You will however need to ensure you have add the app? Wait, is there an app, or an application? I just logged into invision community on my mobile device and clicked on the notification icon, then clicked on notification settings, and finally, after scrolling all the way down, I find a note that I should click to enable for this browser.

'Enable' is very different than installing an application or an app.  I'm so confused. I'm unfamiliar with Ambassador Spock.
