A patch has now been release for this and is currently being pushed out. Please go to support in your admin CP to see this. If you do not see the update, wait a few minutes and check again

Went to ACP > System > Support > Get Support

I don't see a patch. I will keep coming back to this to see if a patch arrives. Am I in the correct place?

This is causing a problem, I have created a "free" subscription with no cost and no expiration date, I am manually adding the users, but it does not exit the STORE loop.

It is urgent that they reverse this error, since not even the protected groups prevent this from working well.

That is odd, in my issue the store works, but all pages and posts send me to the subscriptions page.

You would want to place your administrator and moderator groups in the protected group in ACP -> Commerce -> Subscriptions -> Subscription plans -> Settings. This will keep them in the same groups. Even previously, it is advised to do this even outside of this particular situation in case an administrator or moderator team member purchases a subscription.

    Jim,

In the protected groups there is no Administrators or Root Admin groups listed to protect. What am I doing wrong? In the ACP > Members > Groups these two groups are listed but are not listed in ACP > Commerce > Subscriptions > Subscription Plans > Settings > Protected Groups

I don't understand your instructions above. I don't see how to place the administrator or moderator groups using your description above.

Whether or not this fits your plan is another story but the administrator or moderator would not need to purchase it.

I see how this works. The caveat is admins and moderators have their own group and under their profile a custom group badge. The current badge for a moderator looks like this:

    moderator.thumb.png.da4e962de06149bb0dfeac9af921c838.png

Adding this moderator into the 12 month subscription plan puts the primary group as 12 month subscription in the profile. I have added this moderator to the secondary group MODERATOR so that hopefully this moderator has moderator privileges. Not sure if this works or not?

Ok, I am able to easily login to ACP with my membership. If I change my membership to a 12 month subscription how can I assure I will still have root admin privileges?  I am scarred to death to make this change if I lose ACP login credentials. Should I just keep my root admin membership separate from the 12 month subscription plan and use another membership like the moderator membership to view the member forum?

The one perk of this upgrade is that it forces inactive members to purchase a subscription which is nice.

Another caveat is that when I log out of the ACP it doesn't log me out on VIEW SITE account. I try to log out of the VIEW SITE account and it goes to subscriptions/ and wants me to purchase a subscription. I am able to log back into the ACP if I use the following:

    /admin/?app=core&module=system&controller=login&ref=

As I said before I am reluctant to add my root admin account to the 12 month subscription plan and lose ACP privileges as a root admin. Any thoughts?

This is not currently the way it works, no.

    Jim,
This is a totally different way to think. Based upon this understanding I will need to setup a subscription plan for certain members who are admins or mods. Is that how to resolve this issue?

I just put a member I setup into my 12 month subscription plan and voila!!!!  Everything works for that member.

I just responded to your ticket with an answer. This is due to you are requiring subscriptions on registration.

I am an admin. I tried on a different browser as a moderator and got the same result. Shouldn't admins and mods be exempt from subscriptions?

  7. I just upgraded to 4.6.12.  In my Safari browser when I got to VIEW SITE from the control panel now all I see is the following page:

I checked on the Firefox browser and the site is up and running for guests. However when I logged into an account as an active member the only page that comes up is:

Same issue on Chrome. I cleared the system cache and that didn't help. We are using the default theme that comes with IC.

Anyone else experience this issue?  I have sent in a support issue with IC support. I need help asap. Anyone else have a solution?
  8. I have been told more than once that the Invision Community Platform is not user friendly on mobile devices. I dismissed this since when I gave a cursory look at my mobile device looking at our website, it looked ok to me and thought that these ones don't know what they are talking about. However, I have always used my computer when on our website and started to think about helping those who only use mobile devices a tutorial on how to navigate our website. So that is when I discovered why the Invision Community platform is difficult for those who only use mobile devices. So I have a question for the IC clients about menu management for mobile devices and what your recommendations are to resolve this issue. I need some help.

So, let's look at our home page with the first menu right after the HOME menu button, our NAVIGATOR menu which you can see below using a computer and web browser:

    homepageCOMPUTER.thumb.png.b4e1ad667991a92b109f2e389cbed052.png

As you can see above, clicking on the Navigator menu drops down a long list of menu choices.

Now look at our home page (screen shot left) and see how a mobile device handles this by clicking the three bar menu top right corner (screen shot right):

    homepage.thumb.png.6fadf54efaedd2ab6886e3a395f4be40.pngmenu.thumb.png.c7bb42fc1b3c36319d2242bd94eb4352.png

If you will notice in the screen shot right that the menu for NAVIGATOR is the one just under the HOME menu. Now notice how IC menu management handles this below after clicking on NAVIGATOR:

    navigator.thumb.png.de94b9780a23a6ec7b90dbf2e420e146.png

Please note in the above screen shot that the word NAVIGATOR appears at the top and the all the menu choices are below this word which is also a link. If a mobile device user thinks that one should click on NAVIGATOR again in the above screen shot the user is taken back to the previous screen which then frustrates the user. If they knew that this word is simply a list of what is under the NAVIGATOR menu and all the choices are below this word, that would be fine and dandy, but I think this is a poor menu management decision to make that word a link that goes back to the previous screen.

What would be a way to resolve this issue?  Is there a way to somehow make that word in the above screen shot 'Navigator' not a link?  Or what would you recommend?

I then discovered that all the menu items on our web site that have a drop down menu with more choices do the same thing. I can see why a mobile device user gets frustrated and decides to go back to Facebook or Twitter.

  9. Updated to 4.6.3 and the only issue I found was not being able to edit PAGES (the little gray arrow button on the left side of the screen was missing). I waited one day and then the little gray arrow button returned!). I think it takes a while for everything to reset. Other than that issue, 4.6.3 is working fine.

Check the IP addresses by clicking on them - if you have Google Maps or Mapbox activated it will give you an idea of their location, but the chances are they are search engine robots as they can use multiple IP addresses pointing to the same location.  They are not necessarily people looking 🙂

Aww because if you look where the guests are looking , its where you are or have been ,  .. and yes robots as well.

I didn't know this. Very sad. I thought the online guest widget really shows authentic guests.

yes and half of those guests are you and your ip

In the screen shot above, I am the only member logged in, 'GUIDE,' and all the others are Guests making a total of 14 guests and one member. My IP address is clearly shown, 47.13.164.144. All the other guests have different IP addresses. Please explain how you understand that 'half of those guests' are my IP address? I don't understand what you mean. As far as I know, the widget is working and shows how many 'guests' are online at any give time when I click on the widget link. Sometimes I have many guests viewing my site at any given time. The most were 499 guests earlier this month. I think this is a legitimate widget offered by Invision Community and works fine.

  12. There is nothing to edit when I click on edit. Nothing to configure. I put in the Newsletter widget 'Sign up for Newsletter' and that is all I can do.

I also added the 'Activity Stream' widget below the 'Newsletter Signup' widget and both have the same message. I have a test page you can view here:

    https://irosacea.org/test/

Do you see either widget on the test page?  I don't see either one on my browser on my Mac. I also checked my iPhone and neither widget shows up. I am missing something.

You need nothing more than your imagination and ingenuity.

You can place your blocks in all the fields you have received. If you do not place blocks in the top / bottom horizontal, they will not appear on your completed page.
In each of your three columns, using a block manager, you can add as many blocks as you want.
What you see now is just a framework in which, if you want, it can be filled with custom or system blocks.

Now I get it. I just keep placing blocks under blocks in the framework. Duh....  Thanks.

Look how nice it looks now:

    https://irosacea.org/howto/

  14. I have looked through the guide and can't find the answer to this question and need some assistance.

When making a new page and choosing the three column template I get the following blank page:

    5_13_2021screenshot.thumb.png.fd48a9e173a8fd3e3016a4990da02e98.png

I want to use the three columns in the middle and will ignore using the blank field above and below the three columns. I want to duplicate the middle row so that I have another three columns just below it and if later I need a third row add another row. How do I add another three column row to the existing one?  Obviously it can be done but I have been at a loss how to do this. Thanks.

Agreed, I've sunk some in to mine, but I refuse to any more. The most I'll do is update and hosting. I have visions of mine and what I'd like it to be but it would cost into the 1000's and it's just not worth it, when everyone gets a similar experience on Reddit/Facebook.

I was hoping that the IC team would make the mobile app for iOS and Android and that it would simply be simple and work with any IC forum. Apparently a simple app that works for all IC communities is not easy to make? Obviously the IC developers who make the IC forum platform have done a lot so that it works on all mobile device browsers, but what feedback I am getting is that on mobile device browsers our website isn't easy to navigate and requires too many buttons to click.  I don't have any issues navigating our website on my iPhone but apparently some don't find it easy. Personally I don't understand the issue completely but you can't argue with someone who says our site isn't 'user friendly.'

Wouldn't downloading an Invision Communities app for Android and iOS seem to be better than a browser view of the site on a mobile device?  What are your thoughts on this?  Isn't there any discussion on this?  Or is the browser version adequate for your site?  What feedback are you experiencing?

I agree that spending money on this for a custom app would be over the top and way too expensive. That is why we pay IC monthly payments for all their bells and whistles. Hopefully the IC team will get all the bugs out of the Android App.

Could any of you who are using the Android App explain a bit about the bugs you are experiencing that are reported in this thread about the Android beta version?  What are the issues?

Maybe one day the IC Team will bring back the iOS beta version and finish it to completion. Can you imagine if the Invision Communities Mobile App was actually in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store as a fully functioning app?  Here is hoping.

I can understand that view. Makes logical sense that if you build in Apple, everything else follows if you looks at previous years Applications in the market. I think we all have subtle different goals and I probably should've phrased it like 'the app we all want to show off everything at our websites, at an affordable price'. We all also probably have different goals as some websites are businesses where others, like ours, is for the enjoyment of a community (non-profit). Apple's prices are a little steep compared to Android - £99 per year for Apple vs £25 one time fee for Android, that's the last time i checked into this anyway. Fees all add up, and i'm conscious when i find the next person to carry the torch can sustain the cost alongside the effort that comes with building communities.

I have started to understand a lot more about how people interact these days on their phones in our community and useful tips on here. Its not all solely about the forum application any longer, it is one core application of many that people want so I don't think you need a fully fledged App anymore that saves your website. TapaTalk's inability to show anything more than walls of text in their own way wasn't overly helpful and people miss tons of great things. I genuinely believe just an option to stick it as a homepage on their phones alongside push notifications so stuff is popping up at them whenever they're out and about is ideal, people are fundamentally lazy these days so rather than just accept it, you have to evolve and adapt to your surroundings and their behaviours as best as you can.

Many thanks for your input above @Dean_, I think putting money into some solutions if its your hobby is absolutely fine because you do it for love of what your hobby is to you. My above reply to Brady though is trying to say there clearly is a line where it shouldn't be ridiculous money.

Thanks for your views. Our site is also a non profit so I can relate. We can't afford big bucks to pay a developer to make an iOS app that works with Invision Community platform. It seems logical that the IC team would provide this for us since we are paying bucks for the platform which we love.

Yes, there were issues - but with me I found issues in my theme. After removing various incorrectly set css rules, my APP works without any remarks.

That's cool. So there is hope for the Android app.

So how would I know if my theme has those issues when I don't have an Android device? I am using the default theme that comes with Invision Community v4.5.4.2.

And I am correct is saying that the Android mobile app is still in beta version?

  19. 14 minutes ago, Adlago said:

This beta has an issue after logging in. I have submitted a ticket, but there is still no decision.
After trying to log in, this happens - as if the APP is gone. But after removing the APP and installing it again, the APP appears and works ... At least for me, that's right. But I use Android 10 and have no idea about IOS.

Sonya said earlier in this thread that the Android beta app is still working but has many bugs. The iOS app was working fine and I didn't find any bugs. It is so sad that IC let it drop. I think that if the IC team had put all their eggs into the iOS version and made it work and got Apple to approve it for downloads that the Android team would then fix all those bugs and we would have had both mobile apps. One solution would be to resolve this with money. If IC charged for the iOS app a fee and generated some cash it may motivate the developers on this team to get the iOS beta approved for download. Apple users are used to paying premium for premium products. We know how the Android users feel about that.

Yes, totally appreciate that. I mean anyone with the iOS/Apple system is essentially a lost battle really then. Can't have your own branded mobile app, no push notifications, or homepage push it sounds like. I've done TapaTalk but even they can't offer an iOS solution and its only for the forum section, which misses out on all the other good applications you've enabled/bought. Btw, this isn't a slight at IC at all, more so at the fact there seems to be a lack of options when it comes to Apple and their products. It seems to be only the gold-plated solutions that are always in a significantly higher price range for most individuals and no tactical/MVP options out there.

What would you suggest as some good alternative strategies to the Apple stance Dean? Be really good to know how others combat this.

I think we're lucky that most of our existing members and their friends have shifted towards Android more and more over recent years.

The whole point of attracting "the gold-plated solutions that are always in a significantly higher price range' is the point. The cheaper Android solutions will follow this lead because Android mimics 'the gold-plated solutions' with plastic and inferior solutions. You need to aim high so that the others follow. If you make the iOS mobile app the Android app will come later without a doubt. Having a simple IC app that makes it easy to just post in the forum and follow a particular thread is all that is needed. It doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles, just a simple solution to read and post.

As for Tapatalk, we tried that but Tapatalk stopped supporting IC version 4 and we had to remove it from our site. The solution is to host at Tapatalk which we tried and it wasn't popular with very few registrations and absolutely zilch engagement.

Maybe your theme needs optimization ...

For APP - operation of this beta APP depends on your theme. Errors in the theme also affect the APP. Theme templates use code to restrict parts of your theme in APP. You can notice them as:

    {{if !request.isApp()}}

    code from your theme

     {{endif}}

Also, incorrectly used rules for CSS in a theme cause unpleasant experiences in the APP.

    Adiago,

I have no idea what you are talking about. How do I check if the 'operation of this beta App depends on' my theme, especially when the iOS beta is no more?  I was using the beta iOS mobile app and it was working ok for me. What I don't understand is why IC simply let the beta expire?  It was working.
