Bob Snow Posted Sunday at 09:47 PM Posted Sunday at 09:47 PM I'm installing V5. In the MySQL Server Details It wants a name of a Database. What kind of information is in the database? Robert Snow Amerifax
Gary Posted Sunday at 10:08 PM Posted Sunday at 10:08 PM Hi @Bob Snow, This would be the name of the database you want to use for your installation of v5. Are you upgrading from v4 to v5 or setting up a completely new community?
Bob Snow Posted Sunday at 11:05 PM Author Posted Sunday at 11:05 PM (edited) I'm setting up a completely new community. Not using v4 at all. Just v5. After the setup is done would I ever be using the database again? Bob Edited Sunday at 11:07 PM by Bob Snow
teraßyte Posted Sunday at 11:09 PM Posted Sunday at 11:09 PM In that case, you need to get that information from your hosting. Or, if you have access to a control panel (cPanel, Webmin, DirectAdmin, Plesk, etc), you must create the database through it and copy the name you enter there.
Bob Snow Posted Sunday at 11:27 PM Author Posted Sunday at 11:27 PM (edited) Creating a database needs field names, types, and size. what do I base the database on? Would my host have the knowledge on what I would need? My host is SiteGround. Bob Edited Sunday at 11:29 PM by Bob Snow

Gary Posted Monday at 12:26 AM Posted Monday at 12:26 AM Assuming they use cPanel, go to Databases -> MySQL Databases. Create a name for the database, then Create Database. Add a user (which would be you) and associate it with the new database you have created. These are now the credentials you use to install v5.
Marc Posted Monday at 08:00 AM Posted Monday at 08:00 AM To be honest, if you are struggling with this, you really need someone helping you to manage your site, or to be on a managed environment like cloud
teraßyte Posted Monday at 03:55 PM Posted Monday at 03:55 PM You can follow your hosting's guide: https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/php-mysql/create-user-database/ If you have issues following it you can contact their support for any questions. Or, as Marc mentioned, if you're still unsure how to proceed, it might be best to hire someone to help you manage the site.
