Mick23 Posted October 13 Posted October 13 I have anonymous posting and replies enabled on a few of my forums. It can sometimes be confusing to tell whether anonymous replies are from the OP or from other users replying anonymously. Would it be possible to have the author indicator appear on the anonymous OP's replies as well? Adriano Faria 1
Mick23 Posted October 15 Author Posted October 15 We had another topic today where this was an issue. Does anyone else think this might be a useful additional or is anonymous posting not as widely used as I thought it might be? 🤔
Randy Calvert Posted October 15 Posted October 15 I don’t use anonymous posting. Personally flagging someone as the OP seems to defeat the purpose of posting anonymously. Shawn RR 1

It makes sense to show that subsequent replies were made by the author. Mick23 1
Mick23 Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 In addition, if a user edits their anonymous post it will show their user name in the edit message.

Hello, 🙂 I’m facing the same problem. This makes the discussion confusing… Is there a way to easily make the difference between several members who post anonymously in a topic ? Mick23 1

My members have resorted to calling themselves "anon 1" "anon 2" etc. I was thinking that an automatic colour system might be useful?

Marc Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I will bring that up as a bug, but its very likely that is correct if the user can see who has edited at item
Nathan Explosion Posted December 3 Posted December 3 Just now, Marc said: ...that is correct if the user can see who has edited at item But shouldn't it be the case that if the anonymous author of an anonymous post should have their anonymity maintained when editing said post?
Marc Posted December 3 Posted December 3 1 minute ago, Nathan Explosion said: But shouldn't it be the case that if the anonymous author of an anonymous post should have their anonymity maintained when editing said post? Well, kind of. It could be edited by anyone, and that person may not be anonymous. So its not quite as simple as just marking it anonymous. Thats not to say that cannot be thought about. As said, I have brought it up as a bug report 🙂Â
Nathan Explosion Posted December 3 Posted December 3 Just now, Marc said: As said, I have brought it up as a bug report Good because that is what they are reporting - not that someone else has edited it, but that the anonymous poster has edited it. Off I head to test it out now... Â

Nathan Explosion Posted December 3 Posted December 3 (edited) And now tested...anonymous user unable to edit their own post, as far as I can see, so not sure how they've ended up in the situation the poster mentions (same user posted all three of the below, and is being used to attempt to edit) Edited December 3 by Nathan Explosion
Nathan Explosion Posted December 3 Posted December 3 (edited) Yep, that's the badger. Viewed as someone who can see the edited information: And then viewed by someone who isn't permitted to view the edited information: Edited December 3 by Nathan Explosion
Nathan Explosion Posted December 3 Posted December 3 And seeing as staff can view who the author is (via that eye) then nothing extra is being presented here that isn't already available via that method. And disabling the "Can view anonymous author info?" mod permission results in the hiding of both the eye and the 'edited' information.
Marc Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Yes, thats the conclusion I was coming to. Thanks for sharing 🙂Â
