Birgit Schultz Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 Hi, I don't know how, but I somehow must have managed to overwrite my password in my password tool - and now cannot login to the Forum Control Panel (Admin) any more. How can I reset my password? Malika W 1
Solution Jim M Posted February 2, 2023 Solution Posted February 2, 2023 You can do this by going to the login page on the front-end -> click "Forgot your password?" This will reset passwords for the standard login handler.
Birgit Schultz Posted February 2, 2023 Author Posted February 2, 2023 @Jim M, this is what I was looking for ... but it's not there:
Randy Calvert Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 It looks like you're trying to do that from the ACP. That's the wrong spot. Go to the front page of your board like a user would... click the sign on button. There is a link there for "Forgot Your Password".

As Randy mentioned, you would not want to go to the ACP but the front-end of your community.
Birgit Schultz Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 Uh, sorry, I forgot to mention that I use the WordPress SSO plugin for my users to login. Thus, there's no login screen for my users (and me). And as far as I remember I use different passwords for my WordPress login and the ACP of the forum ...
Marc Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 You would need to disable that so that you can reset the password. There is no other way around that
Birgit Schultz Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 @Marc Stridgen - how can I disable the plugin when I have no access to my admin control panel?
Marc Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 You may be able to use recovery mode, which you can see here. https://invisioncommunity.com/4guides/client-services/getting-support-r292/#recoverymode Alternatively, you would need to seek the assistance of the author of that item, to ensure you can get to the lost password screen Birgit Schultz 1
Birgit Schultz Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 I just read the instructions for the recovery mode but that would only work with the admin password, wouldn't it? But that's my problem: I do not have access to the admin control panel any more. I do not find a way to reset my password there. I have deactived the plugin by renaming the wordpressso-plugin-folder per ftp. However, this does not help me to get access to the ipboard admin control. So how can I either reset my admin-password or where would I find it in the database to change it there? Or any other way to get access to the acp again. Thank you.
Marc Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 You reset the password using the "forgot my password" link on the front end of the site, when you have the front end login handler enabled instead of the wordpress plugin you have. The problem at the moment is you cant get to that link because the 3rd party plugin is overriding that link.
Birgit Schultz Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 The WordPressSSO-Plugin is disabled. I can see the forgot my password-link on the front end of the site. When I enter the email adress which I use for my admin account in the acp I never receive a password-reset mail. (It works fine when I want to reset the passwords for the users I have created additionally.) The account-email I use for administration is not in the members database because when installing the forum I chose a completely different email address for this, @Marc Stridgen.
Marc Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 It's the email address you used when you created the install you would then need to add, as that would be the admin account
