How to merge to member groups

I'm trying to rationalise our groups a bit.

I have one group – with about nearly 400,000 people and another group with about 5000.

I'd like to merge the smaller group into the larger group and then eventually get rid of the smaller group.

Has anyone any idea how this can be done please?

Go to Members (ACP) and use the advanced search form. Search by the smaller group. Example:

then you'll see in the results:

Click in the MOVE MEMBERS FOUND and choose the other group.

After moving, you can delete the smaller group; it will be empty (no members).

This is to be working except that it says that the action is queued – so I suppose that I have to wait until it sorts itself out.

Remove smaller group. Then IPS4 ask where do you want to move exists members.

Thanks for that – actually I tried to remove another much smaller group and it simply deleted the group

If a group is assigned to ANY users as a Primary group, then it will ask which group to move those users to.

If the group isn't assigned to ANY users as a Primary group (i.e. it's used as a secondary group) then it will not ask which group to move those users to

On that basis I think that I will stick to using the slow and safe method outlined by @Adriano Fariaabove
