Poojitha Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 HI, I am new to the forums community software we purchased and was wondering is there is a way to backup the last instance of the site before we proceeded with upgrade ? if not what are some suggestions on how to backup? please be elaborate since i am not a software person and would need to convey the same to our sys admins. Thanks so much in advance .

Could check with yourt web host as to when last backup was made (assuming they do free backups) ... if not then you will need to do a backup via cPanel for upgrading check out the info
Square Wheels Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 I asked if this could be an option for the upgrade routine through the ACP, @Charles said no. I recently downloaded and played with MyBB, they have it. I think it's a great idea to have as an option in the ACP.

Thanks so much in advance . The normal way: The file backup is done with an FTP app. The database backup is done through a web app such as phpMyAdmin or with a command line connection to the server. However, every sys admin knows that. That’s not information you need to pass on to them. Those are the normal options, which always work. Your host might have faster and easier tools to initiate backups. Some hosts even have snapshot functionalities, where you really just make one click to backup everything (files, databases, settings) at once and can restore them just as easily later with just one click. 5 minutes ago, Square Wheels said: I asked if this could be an option for the upgrade routine through the ACP, @Charles said no. Doing full backups of everything through a PHP app is really a bad idea. This stuff can so much more easily and fast be handled on the server level.
