Disable avatar gifs

It seems the ability to disable gif's in avatars was removed in 4.x. We had this feature in 3.x. Please add it back in. It gets very distracting when reading a thread and half the posts are animating images from the corner of your eye.

I'm also adding to this. Plenty of niches do not allow animated avatars at all (animated gifs is fine, mods can police that kind of stuff if it gets excessive) for example as a writing forum that gets a 10k+ posts per day, it gets super obnoxious to see animated avatars, something that plagues the software we are coming from to IPS pretty bad. All I want to do is read the large blocks of text, not see dancing stuff in the corner.

Bump.

My users have started uploading seizure inducing animated gifs as avatars purely to be annoying. I have to manually remove them every single time.

Please. Moving a large forum over from vBulletin where I could disallow gifs, now I can't and users are already being obnoxious. It takes too much time to keep removing them.

Did this option get in?  I've not found it.  On the recent upgrade from 3.x avatars have come to life and we had decided to turn them off years ago as multiple animations on a topic get quite irritating.

It's a per-group setting, in the Social tab.

I think it would be good to also have a global switch.

Same for me. Clearing the site and search caches might help, I guess, or it's a bug, but I don't know enough to say for sure.
