Anyone available to help me move IPB site from Bluehost to Amazon Cloud?

Invision set me up perfectly at Bluehost after a data import, but my site has grown beyond the VPS solution there and I want to move to Amazon before I buy advertising and traffic for the site -- I need a cloud solution easily expanded to support growth after advertising, etc.

So --

Are there any admins out there who I could hire to help me move everything and set up on AWS?

I just want to inform you that moving to amazon cloud, or any other type of cloud that advertises based on "ease of expansion" or even "endless expansion" is anything but easy or endless. There are numerous software, services and setup implications involved in making something expandable. Only then, you can actually make use of the horizontal expansions. Putting multiple (virtual) hardware is the easiest part in a mult-server setup.

If you've outgrown the vps solution, I suggest getting a beefy single dedicated server. If you outgrow that as well, then you start considering multi-dedi server setups instead of going to multi-vps setup like amazon cloud. Because this way has less immediate work involved and lot cheaper in the long run.

If you reach the state of multi-server (of dedi or vps), you should also considering hiring a permanent system administrator if you aren't able to manage it yourself. Will also require a programmer qualified in heavy traffic setups if you reach such a point. Because they're much more of a headache to manage and will be more hands on constantly because you really have N multiple chance of something going wrong plus new factors caused by high load which would never have been an issue before.

Additionally, your site is down right now, so I can't really quantify what you have. I'm assuming you're part of the large EIG downtime that's currently happening. Including many like hostgator, bluehost, etc.

I'll move it for free for you to our hosting and get you back up and running quickly  Just let me know!

I strongly recommend what Rhett has to offer. We had problem after problem with a few different web hosts. Then we swtiched to Rhett and Exact Servers. Problems? They are a thing of the past. Can't even explain how happy we are with Exact Servers.

I was referring to IPS Hosting, We Kick Butt here too, however dedicated servers isn't something we provide through IPS Hosting. ;)

Max, thanks for your kind words sir!

I'd look at a dedicated and agree with Rhett

Although you don't actually give info on what your VPS is exactly so you could find a decent VPS would be fine and that at present you may be on an oversold badly managed VPS (i don't know blue host so cannot really comment)

Dedicated servers are good but with a decent properly setup and managed VPS you can go a long way

the issues I had with vps was other users got attacked a lot causing slowdowns on my end.

I use vps for offsite backups now, they surely do have their plusses though.

Some VPS's and VPS providers are a lot better than others

(*** I do not know your VPS details so you may be correct and following your posts you probably are  ***)

But for the less educated

A KVM VPS is fully virtualised and offers the best segregation short of a dedicated server - unlike some other virtualisations (I am a KVM fan in case you hadn't realised)

Some Nearly all cheap VPS providers Oversell - Decent VPS Providers do not oversell but are not cheap

And a Properly Managed Server and VPS is a lot better than one that is auto set up and not managed carefully at all

I like a nice glass of red wine or a proper english ale - and like a VPS - you can tell if its quality or not

Saying that if you do outgrow a VPS then a dedicated is the way forward

what had happened (was not oversold either) was someone gained access to an account (5 times if you can believe that...) and really started messing around thrashing the discs and running outgoing ddos crap.

the thrashing was enough to slow me down, there are also occasionally some issues with iptables on vps (openvz maybe?) but that never bugged me.

but with dedicated I am able to do what I want and use the vs for other stuff.
