A hacker could still use the Prune tool to completely empty a forum with no backup couldn't he? Maybe moderator tools should require authentication to be used, like the ACP,

You can use backups of your board to restore. ALWAYS take backups it is a very helpful thing. I have a bakcup script running every 12 hours. (At Midnight My Host does it and at Noon my script does it.

Exactly, remember too that moderators aren't exactly experts, and it is hard to explain them all the policies and etc, with the moderator CP, they can just go there and figure it out.:)

I agree that the main reason for this is a place where moderators can see what other moderators or admins have done, thus more than 1 person not responding to a reported post, for example.

If you want to creat a group like Smods create a new group in the admin CP disable show to other members allow this group to have admin CP control. then each mod you want to add in restrit from what ever part of the admin CP you want

Actually, even Jelsoft has stated that with future releases of vB, they plan to remove the Mod CP. By introducing inline moderation in vB 3.5.x, all of the former uses of the Mod CP can be done without utilizing it.
